Houseboat description

Our houseboat Josja is one of the most characteristic boats on the canals of Amsterdam. Although she is over 100 years old, we take good care of her. A renovated bathroom and a small kitchenette where you can make coffee in the morning are included. I live on the boat and rent the second bedroom to people with a good feeling. Enjoy the beautiful neighborhood, De Jordaan and all of Amsterdam is easily accessible by foot. There is an outdoor area where you can enjoy when the weather is nice and there is a small refrigerator at your disposal.

The space

You will be staying in the former captain's house. I live at the back of the boat. You have your own entrance to the houseboat. The authentic room offers a phenomenal view over the canal and the adjacent bathroom has been renovated. There is a sink and small refrigerator at your disposal for cooling, and there are coffee and tea facilities. The living room can be shared, or for an additional fee it can be converted into a second bedroom, allowing four people to stay.

We are happy to answer your questions and make suggestions for your stay.

About the area

Unearth Amsterdam's Historic Treasures

The Dutch capital of Amsterdam, nestled in the heart of North Holland, is a living gallery of Golden Age architecture and centuries-old canals. Stroll through the historic Jordaan district, renowned for its maze of narrow streets and charming houses. Visit the Anne Frank House, a poignant testament to wartime resilience, or marvel at the opulent Royal Palace on Dam Square, once the epicenter of Dutch power. The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum provide an immersive peek into the rich artistic tapestry of the Netherlands.

Explore Indoor Pleasures in Amsterdam

Amsterdam boasts a wealth of indoor activities to engage the curious mind. The Hermitage Amsterdam offers a taste of Russian aristocracy, while the interactive exhibits at the NEMO Science Museum captivate visitors of all ages. For contemporary art lovers, the Stedelijk Museum is a must-visit, housing an extensive collection of modern masterpieces. Don't miss the eye-popping vibrancy of the Electric Ladyland museum, dedicated entirely to fluorescent art.

Dive into Amsterdam's Enchanting Outdoors

Embrace the outdoors with a scenic canal cruise, gliding past iconic bridges and colorful houseboats that define Amsterdam's unique charm. The expansive Vondelpark, a true urban oasis, invites visitors for leisurely strolls, cycling adventures, or simply basking in the serene beauty. Journey a bit farther to the Amsterdamse Bos, a sprawling forest park ideal for hiking, boating, and horseback riding. For a tranquil escape, the city's botanical garden, Hortus Botanicus, offers a haven of exotic plants and trees.

Wildlife Wonders Near Amsterdam

While Amsterdam might not be known for its wildlife, the city offers unique encounters nonetheless. Artis Royal Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in Europe, provides a home for diverse species within a lush, park-like setting. Just a short trip outside the city, the Zaanse Schans region offers a glimpse into rural Dutch life, complete with pastures dotted with grazing sheep and traditional windmills. For bird enthusiasts, early morning trips to the nearby Waterland area offer the chance to spot native waterfowl and wading birds in their natural habitats.

Houseboat owner

Jan / Judith

Hi there! I am Judith, a Dutch girl in her late twenties. I have travelled a lot of my time and when I was looking for housing I found Josja. Together with the owner and help of friends we have renovated here. As an effort to earn back the renovations we thought: why not have others enjoy her too! So, here we are a while later.

    Family stay in Amsterdam

We stayed at Jan & Josja's beautiful houseboat for two nights. We are a family of four: two teenagers and parents. The boat was spacious for all four of us, with two double beds. We had a great stay! The boat is beautiful and well arranged. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, watching life on and around the canal. The location is just excellent, with lots of small shops and great cuisine from all over the world. We enjoyed the diversity of the vibrant city and the peaceful houseboat. We would definitely love to come back for another visit, with Josja and Jan.

    Our stay

Homy and cozy, the stay on the houseboat added to the character of our stay in Amsterdam. We loved the central location and appreciated the uniqueness of the setting. The only drawbacks were lack of light blocking and windows that dripped due to condensation. The kitchen is limited, so plan accordingly, but it is close to a grocery store. Very responsive hosts with helpful local tips.

    Unbelievable

We rented the houseboat last minute. The host was great; being in the location was amazing. I would recommend it 10/10 times. Being in the center of everything while being on a comfortable boat was truly an amazing experience. Thank you!

    Prinsengracht Canal Boat Show original

The Hosts, Judith, Jan, and Tom were great. Very professional, courteous, and informative. The Boat is in a great location, not far from Anne Frank's house and the Westerkerk. The Boat is well appointed. A great restaurant is just across the street from the Boat. We spent many hours on the terrace overlooking the canal.
