Historical Treasures Await in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands, is a haven for history lovers. The architectural heritage of the city is breathtaking, with the iconic canals that have earned a UNESCO World Heritage designation. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Anne Frank House, where the young diarist penned her thoughts during World War II, or the Rijksmuseum, showcasing masterpieces from Dutch painters like Rembrandt and Vermeer. The stunning Royal Palace, located on Dam Square, adds a regal touch to your historical explorations, reflecting the city’s rich past.

Indoors: Culture and History Galore

For a cozy indoor experience, head to the many museums that call Amsterdam home. The Van Gogh Museum is a must-see, featuring the world’s largest collection of Van Gogh’s works. For a more alternative vibe, the Foam Museum of Photography offers a contemporary take on art. The city's vibrant theater scene is also worth exploring, with numerous venues showcasing everything from classical performances to modern plays.

Outdoor Escapades and Scenic Canals

Nature enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in Amsterdam’s well-maintained parks and gardens. Vondelpark is the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, a picnic, or even an open-air a bike and cycle along the city's scenic canals, immersing yourself in the beautiful surroundings. The nearby Amsterdamse Bos, a large park on the city’s outskirts, offers opportunities for hiking, biking, and even boating, providing a refreshing escape from urban life.

Wildlife Encounters in an Urban Paradise

Despite being a bustling metropolis, Amsterdam is close to several nature reserves that are home to diverse wildlife. The Zwanenmeer reserves are perfect for birdwatchers, with a variety of species of waterfowl roaming the waters. The Amstel River, winding through the city, is also great for spotting local fauna, including ducks and swans, making it a delightful experience as you explore the natural beauty of the region.

    Highlight of our trip

This houseboat was a great stay. It’s just at the edge of everything, which is nice and quiet. Joep met us to let us in and show us around his place. We undervalued this at the beginning of our 6 city tour. Trying to figure out simple things like washing machines in six different languages is a pain. Joep showing us how everything worked was a big help. He is an excellent and responsive communicator. He had a big booklet of useful information and recommendations; they were spot on. It was raining during our visit, so we did not get to use the deck as much as we wanted, but with more time, it would be a great place to relax. This place was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

Good location, well worth the money

What a cool experience to stay on a houseboat in Amsterdam. Good location, well worth the money to be right in the city. Even stayed in one night just to enjoy the place - charcuterie, wine, and hanging out on the floating deck. So nice.

    Lovely place

Joep is very helpful, friendly, and goes out of his way for his guests. It’s a lovely place to sit on the floating porch and watch the world go by.

Great host - houseboat very spacious

Joep was a great host! His recommendations are great, and he was responsive to any questions that came up during our stay. The houseboat is more spacious than I imagined, and the view is lovely - even with the rain coming down, it was great to look out the many wide windows and watch ducks. Thank you for accommodating us, especially on short notice!
