Houseboat description

Our houseboat

The bed & breakfast is an apartment of 35m2 in our houseboat. With a kitchenette (with fridge & microwave & a small induction stove to cook a simple meal), bathroom, living room with dining table and a separate loft bedroom with a maximum standing height of 1.70 meters (!!!).

The apartment also has a small private terrace where you can relax, have a drink and look over the water. Outside the B&B there is a private waterside veranda for our guests. It is 1.40 meters wide and 5 meters long.

To do's

Visit Amsterdam city center. Take the ferry from the old NDSM wharf to the central station in 10 minutes.

In 10 minutes you are also bicycling through the green Wetlands (Waterland), where you can explore beautiful villages. And don't forget to visit the famous 'Zaanse Schans', it isn't more than a nice bike ride away.

When you come back from your day, step into the free available canoe and take a trip through our beautiful canal.

The area

Our houseboat is located at the beginning of Zijkanaal I, near the NDSM wharf. Huge sea ships were built there for decades. When the sea-going vessels were launched to water, the houseboats in the area were warned to untie the ropes because of a massive displacement.

Today, the slipways and halls are mainly used for various cultural activities. And the old yard also houses several tasty and cozy restaurants.

The neighbours

The houseboat has two apartments. You will be staying in the B&B apartment. We live in the front apartment. So you will be sharing the houseboat. Both apartments have private outdoor spaces and the walls have sound insulation, but please be aware our our quiet hours and the house rules.

How to get there

If you come by car it is best to use a navigation app. Please do not enter the address of the houseboat, but the address of the free parking space: Buiksloterdijk 403, postal code 1033 ZA, Amsterdam. When you arrive at the parking lot, you will see a path next to number 401. Enter that path and after 50 meters you will see the jetty where our houseboat is located.

If you come by public transport, take the ferry to the NDSM wharf. From there it is an 8 minute walk to our houseboat.

If you come by taxi, you can enter either of these two addresses.

Address 1: Klaprozenweg 60. You will come to a parking lot that is not paved. At the 2nd lamppost is a path that leads to the houseboat harbor. There is a wooden Indian on the corner. At the end of that short path, turn right and continue to the last jetty. You will quickly see our houseboat.

Address 2: Buiksloterdijk 403. Walk to the path next to the last houseboat. After 50 meters you will see the jetty where our houseboat is moored.

About the area

The houseboat village where our boat is located lies on the separation between the city and the countryside. Within 5 to 10 minutes walking you are at the hip NDSM wharf. Large seagoing ships used to be built there. Today there are nice restaurants and many cultural activities take place. From the wharf you can reach the Central Station in the city center in 7 minutes by ferry.

Also within a 5 minute walk from the ark is a nice park to visit. In 10 minutes cycling you are in the leafy Waterland with all its picturesque villages.

Houseboat owner

Saskia

I cannot imagine my life without the proximity of water. As a child I often went with my father who worked in the harbor. And we went sailing and sailing. I have never felt more comfortable anywhere than on our houseboat. The holiday feeling in the summer, the adrenaline when it storms and the lights swing back and forth. It's so special. Life in our houseboat community is very similar to life in a village as it used to be. We all know each other, help each other when necessary, but let everyone in their own way. I like to share the experiences of living on the water in a houseboat community with others.

    Great houseboat in Amsterdam

Saskia's houseboat is super cozy and just like in the description and in the pictures. We felt very comfortable and had everything we need. The location is quiet, idyllic and green. A perfect contrast to the full center. One of the best things were the bikes we had at our disposal. In about 10 minutes you are at the old NDSM shipyard with numerous nice restaurants. From here, the free ferry takes you directly to Amsterdam Central Station in a few minutes. Just take the bikes with you on the ferry and then continue cycling in the center and discover so much. That was just great! There are also some other points nearby where the ferry leaves from. We also used the canoe and explored the really beautiful houseboat area along the canal. The water in the canal itself gave us a relaxing cool down on the hot days. Saskia herself is a very, very nice woman and was always available, friendly and super helpful. We would always stay in your houseboat again, for us it was the perfect mix of everything. Thank you and see you soon! ❤️

    Charming House Boat

We experienced our stay of 4 nights in this boathouse as very pleasant. Nice communication with the hostess and a clean and nicely decorated boathouse. The location is fantastic. The bicycles that we could borrow took us to the ferry in 5 minutes to cross to A'dam central. With 20 minutes on the bike you are outside the ring and you are in the beautiful nature of the Wetlands of A'dam. Recommended!

    Beautiful stay

The sweetest house boat stay right on the canal in its own village. Brilliant location for all different parts of the city and a lovely bonus of some bikes to use! Saskia was great host and very lovely to speak to each day! Definitely will come again!
