Houseboat summary

She is built in 1913, but still this floating beauty is as charming as ever before. The location is stunning, right at the beginning of the Amstel River and close to most main attractions. With two bedrooms the Art Deco Houseboat is well suited to accommodate four persons. Four persons who will feel privileged to enjoy both the distinctive interior as well as the outside deck with great views over the water.

Houseboat description

The ship was originally built as a freight carrier, well over a century ago. Now her working days are over, and she enjoys welcoming guests aboard from all over the world. After a proper renovation by your host, better known as Captain Rob, the ship was transformed into a unique floating B&B.

Guests appreciate the boat for the many nautical details all through the place. The many mahogany walls, classic furniture and lots of charming decorations contribute to a very special atmosphere.

Two large windows in the ceiling and lots of portholes let in the daylight, as well as the windows in the open kitchen. Here you will find everything to make a great meal and have a great breakfast or lunch at the large kitchen table.

The living room is very 'homey' with a comfortable couch to snuggle up to your beloved ones and have a break from the many impressions you will get in town. A great place to chill out!

The bedrooms are most likely the most characteristic you will ever sleep. The wooden walls and ceiling create a very cosy and atmosphere - you will sleep like a true captain!

And last but not least: the location. The location! Right in the middle of town, close to the famous Waterloo Square, Flower Market, Dam Square, Central Station and many, many other amazing things to do and see.

Smoking is only allowed in the Wheelhouse. It might be good to know that it is a 'real' ship', so the doorways, corridors and stairs might be a bit smaller then in a regular. We call it part of the charm ;-)

Let me know if you have any questions - always glad to help and I look forward to welcome you aboard!

Rob

How to get there

From Central Station you take tram 9 to Rembrand Square. This is a 5-minute ride and from there it is a two minute walk.

There are various options to park your car. There is a P+R at 20 minutes distance, from where you can get back by metro. Also there is a paid parking called Oosterdok next to central station for reasonable prices (20 euro/24 hour. This is much cheaper than parking on the street, which is at least 5 euro/hour)

About the area

You will be staying as much in the city centre as it gets. There's many bars, restaurants and clubs within a stone's throw distance. You might notice this during the weekends, but during weekday nights, it is surprisingly quiet at night.

    A wonderful weekend!

Rob's boat was the perfect accommodation for our 60th birthday celebrations. Comfortable and spacious,  and full of character. We loved the art deco style interior! Rob was very helpful and welcoming and the location of the boat is perfect. Very central, close to shops, bars and cafes, with a boat stop a few metres away and a short walk to the tram. And great views being on the Amstel river!

We spent four nights aboard Kapitein Rob's Art Deco Houseboat on the Amstel  in Central Amsterdam  this May.The location is perfect (at the junction of three canals) for watching the always fascinating river traffic and exploring the city. You are within walking distance of the prettiest canals. The boat is roomy ,welcoming and cosy ,the beds comfortable and everything works.Great kitchen!

Fabulous place to stay in Amsterdam!

We spent 6 wonderful days in Amsterdam! Our nights were spent on the deck of this beautiful Art Deco style houseboat sipping wine and taking in the sights, and waving to the tours as they silently rode by in electric motorized boats. Captain Rob was so very helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

Art Decor on Amstel River September 2018

What a wonderful facility this House Boat is. We stayed for 5 days and found Captain Rob so welcoming and helpful. There was everything (except our food) on board to allow us to cater for ourselves. The full size fridge and smaller freezer was excellent for our stay and all the facilities were in great working order and easy to use. The washing machine and dryer were excellent for our stay as well. The area is so convenient to trams and is within easy walking distance of cafes, resturants and super markets. Beds were extremely comfortable and the whole facility was spotlessly clean. Enjoyed our stay so much and would highly recommend for any visitors.

City centre houseboat with loads of character

I have been so fortunate to stay at this amazing and truly unique houseboat right in the middle of Amsterdam. The host and owner Rob - captain rob I should say - just advertised this place on this website and we can only be thankful for that. The interior is exactly as shown on the pics and it has a great nautical feeling to it. The master bedroom is located in the back and might not be suitable for really old people since you have to duck a bit. It is a ship after all, and not a hotel room. But no hotel room can match this experience: great kitchen, large living room and very nice decorated bedrooms. Would go back in a heartbeat - highly recommended!

    Fantastic stay

I stayed with husband and 2 adult daughters for 5 nights in July to celebrate my 60th birthday. Fabulous location. Walked everywhere. Lovely area loads of restaurants and bars but far enough from touristy areas. The boat was beautifully decorated. Loved the art nouveau details and candles. The great kitchen although only used for making snacks. Bedrooms were comfortable and roomy. I was really surprised at the space on the boat. Lovely to sit on the deck and watch all the tourist boats sail by and wave. I would have been happy to sit there all day and night. We were fortunate with fabulous weather.  It was so hot Rob came round and fitted a gazebo for shade. Rob was fantastic and gave us a great welcome. What a great way to experience Amsterdam.  So much better than a hotel. I will hopefully return.
