Houseboat summary

You will be surprised about the tranquility that our neighborhood has to offer: a true hidden gem just around the corner of Central Station and the Cruise Terminal. We warmly welcome you aboard on our cozy houseboat where you will have a private studio with separate entrance in the front of the ship. Enjoy all the comfort of a luxury hotel room, yet with the character that comes with a houseboat.

Houseboat description

Our guests particularly appreciate the location. There are many great things to - no tourist traps, but genuine interesting highlights - within walking distance. Right across the water you see the amazingly designed science museum Nemo with free roof-panorama, the National Maritime Museum, the Amsterdam Climbing Hall, the Music Hall and within 1 km distance you find Central Station, the free Ferry to Amsterdam North.

Not to mention the wonderful places to eat and drink! The famous and laid back bar-restaurant Hannekes Book (with awesome terrace) is literally one minute walking away, and around the corner there is a great cafe 'Delerium' with over 750(!) beers, also with a water front terrace. When you cross the bridge you can enjoy one of the best Chinese restaurants in town - actually also located on a houseboat! And this is just to give you an impression - there is so much to see, drink, eat and to do!

Outside you can enjoy the sun all day long. Since we are located along a dead-end street, there is not much traffic and you can sit outside comfortably. This is actually quiet unique for Amsterdam. Even just walking along our canal is a lovely experience in itself: here you will see a great variety of traditional ships that are well preserved, often over a hundred years.

And now about the studio. You have a private entrance, so privacy is guaranteed. When you enter the boat, you will experience the unique and warm atmosphere that we have created to give you a real home-away-from-home' feeling. The places has a comfortable double bed, a ( sleeping) couch, a flatscreen tv, free wifi, a dining table, water cooker, micro wave and a small fridge, hairföhn. Be assured that the houseboat studio is comfortably warm all year round thanks to central heating and since we have solar panels on the roof we also have airco for the warm days.

Linen and towels are provided, as well as a hair dryer. Don't like to go out and fancy an afternoon cocooning? We have a nice selection of books, board games and puzzels too.

We speak English, German, French, Spanish and Dutch, so feel free to let us know if you have any questions and we will get back to you right away. We look forward to welcome you aboard on our charming houseboat!

About the area

Our area is best described as a nautical neighborhood with lots of unique vessels that are tendered by their owners. We care for our houseboats, as well for each other. Awesome alternative to High Priced hotel's in Amsterdam

Joanne was a great host. She accommodated our check-in/check-out times, provided timely advice and recommendations, and even had beer and cheese waiting for us on our return from various excursions. She also let us have Amazon deliver various items we didn't want to pack, and they were waiting for us on our arrival. The accommodations were as shown in the photos, but freshly painted. Bathroom and shower are small but clean and easily managed (6'2 220#); bed was quite comfortable for 2. The barge is shared with the hosts, but accommodations are completely separate with separate entrances. We couldn't tell that we weren't alone on the barge. Also, there was little to no movement on the barge from waves or boat traffic. It is located close to the train tracks, and ear plugs are required for a good night's sleep, but we knew that going in, so it wasn't an issue for us. Would definitely recommend as an affordable alternative to the sky-high Amsterdam hotel market.

    Fabulous stay!

Joanne and Ramiro were excellent hosts, there when we needed them and discreetly living their best lives on the other side of the beautiful Dokstroom. Joanne left some cans of craft beer from a local distillery, fancy glasses, and nibbles for us on arrival as we were celebrating my husband's 50th. The space was spotless and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The shower was excellent with constant hot water, and the air conditioning was great in the heatwave. It was less than a 10 min walk from Centraal and near local bars and restaurants, but quiet enough that we slept well. The bed was super comfortable.

We had the pleasure of watching a great crested grebe bird nesting on 5 eggs right outside the door, which was just beautiful! Also, a family of Meerkoets visited us several times. Joanne was very endearing, taking the time to explain these beauties to us! We felt that we had a taste of 'Real Amsterdam' and lived like the locals on the houseboat. We are looking forward to coming back to Dokstroom in the future. Thanks, Joanne and Ramiro, for a wonderful, memorable stay! X

    Cozy and exceptional Show original

If you are looking for comfortable accommodation where you can quickly walk to the center and the train station, this is the place for you. Joanne gave us a very warm welcome and gave us tips for our stay. Apart from the train, it is very quiet and very, very comfortable, even when it rains a lot, for example. We felt very comfortable.
