Houseboat summary

You will be surprised about the tranquility that our neighborhood has to offer: a true hidden gem just around the corner of Central Station and the Cruise Terminal. We warmly welcome you aboard on our cozy houseboat where you will have a private studio with separate entrance in the front of the ship. Enjoy all the comfort of a luxury hotel room, yet with the character that comes with a houseboat.

Houseboat description

Our guests particularly appreciate the location. There are many great things to - no tourist traps, but genuine interesting highlights - within walking distance. Right across the water you see the amazingly designed science museum Nemo with free roof-panorama, the National Maritime Museum, the Amsterdam Climbing Hall, the Music Hall and within 1 km distance you find Central Station, the free Ferry to Amsterdam North.

Not to mention the wonderful places to eat and drink! The famous and laid back bar-restaurant Hannekes Book (with awesome terrace) is literally one minute walking away, and around the corner there is a great cafe 'Delerium' with over 750(!) beers, also with a water front terrace. When you cross the bridge you can enjoy one of the best Chinese restaurants in town - actually also located on a houseboat! And this is just to give you an impression - there is so much to see, drink, eat and to do!

Outside you can enjoy the sun all day long. Since we are located along a dead-end street, there is not much traffic and you can sit outside comfortably. This is actually quiet unique for Amsterdam. Even just walking along our canal is a lovely experience in itself: here you will see a great variety of traditional ships that are well preserved, often over a hundred years.

And now about the studio. You have a private entrance, so privacy is guaranteed. When you enter the boat, you will experience the unique and warm atmosphere that we have created to give you a real home-away-from-home' feeling. The places has a comfortable double bed, a ( sleeping) couch, a flatscreen tv, free wifi, a dining table, water cooker, micro wave and a small fridge, hairföhn. Be assured that the houseboat studio is comfortably warm all year round thanks to central heating and since we have solar panels on the roof we also have airco for the warm days.

Linen and towels are provided, as well as a hair dryer. Don't like to go out and fancy an afternoon cocooning? We have a nice selection of books, board games and puzzels too.

We speak English, German, French, Spanish and Dutch, so feel free to let us know if you have any questions and we will get back to you right away. We look forward to welcome you aboard on our charming houseboat!

About the area

Our area is best described as a nautical neighborhood with lots of unique vessels that are tendered by their owners. We care for our houseboats, as well for each other. Hurst Dokstroom Stay

We enjoyed our stay very much. Joanne is a wonderful host. The location was excellent for our approach to touring. Walking and street cars. Very easy walk to supermarkets and train station. The bed was very comfortable. Only negative was the sink had to double as the wash basin. Shaving was difficult so I didn't. Oh well!

The boat is a bit older but it is very clean. Joanne tries incredibly hard. Very uncomplicated. Contact is easy via whatsapp or SMS. She gives tips for breakfast or dinner. The boot is about 10-15 minutes walk from downtown. Not too far, not too close. I was excited. Any time!! Thanks

    A very happy time

Despite being near the station, this is actually a peaceful location; the loudest sounds are made by the local coots whose sole purpose in life appears to be making sure everyone gets up early! The apartment is small but thoughtfully furnished and I spent a very happy time there. Houseboat life does not suit everyone but for those it does, this is about as good as it gets. Everything you need is in walking distance and the people are very friendly. As if this were not enough, my host Joanne went out of her way repeatedly to ensure that everything was to my liking. Joanne speaks good English (much better than my Dutch!) and is very knowledgeable about the area. A truly excellent host (and a good conversationalist), so overall I would definitely recommend this place.

    Great trip!

Joanne was a great host, very accommodating! When we arrived she showed us the quickest route into the centre from the boat and gave us a few recommendations. We had been to Amsterdam many times before she she didn't need to spend too much time explaining where we needed to go as we already knew. It was my partner's birthday and she gave him a present which we both thought was very sweet. The only negative would be that there is not a stove so you do have to eat out majority of the time. I would definitely book this boat again! Thanks Joanne for a great stay :)
