Houseboat owner

In January 2009, we bought the 'Daybreak' while it lay frozen in the neighborhood of Bremen. It took some weeks before the ice melted and a course could be set for the Netherlands.

The ship was delivered to the Talsma wharf in Heeg, where it lay still for a year. In this period, we spent enormous energy on the design and concept of its new form and obtaining the necessary permits. We busied ourselves that year with demolition as and when it was possible, but the real work began only after the permits came in. The ship was then cut down to the maximum allowed length for its current mooring of 35 meters and fully gutted. We started with an empty hull and rebuilt from there, with full respect for the ship's form. The new construction has kept the form of a roof, steering cabin and 'kitchen'. The access to the roof deck (entrance B&B) has been renovated but kept its original form. Much thought was put into to retaining the history of this ship while maximizing the space inside.

Lovely relaxing stay by the water

We stayed for three nights on the houseboat. It was great. The accommodation was clean and fresh. The boat is not far (10mum walk) from a tram stop so getting around was very easy. The area Zeeburg was peaceful, green and open and made a lovely tranquil contrast from the busy centre of Amsterdam, and showed us a different part of the city. Breakfast was super and very kindly was served on deck as the weather was beautiful. The kitchen area was useful with fridge and microwave.  Sylvia andTheo were perfect hosts - helpful and friendly as was Bink the dog.   We had a lovely meal at a local vegan restaurant Bonboon over the water which was excellent in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Overall it was a real treat and we came home very relaxed. We would definitely recommend it. Thank you!!

    Fabulous houseboat stay in Amsterdam

Sylvia and Robert were lovely hosts and made us feel instantly welcome and at home.

The accommodation was great and the boat has been refurbished to a very high standard.

The welcome bottle of Prosecco was very thoughtful and unexpected, and the breakfast was delicious.

I cannot recommend and De Dageraad highly enough!

    Two very happy customers!

    Really a five-star houseboat

This really is five star, immaculately clean, simple yet stylish decor. Nice personal touches fresh flowers and homely crockery etc. Well equipped galley kitchenette fridge microwave and excellent coffee machine with plenty of supplies. We had both the rooms which were large spacious rooms with ensuite shower rooms. The houseboat is B&B and the breakfast is plentiful and really nice fresh cooked or prepared by Sylvia descreatly left for you at the table.

    Clean and friendly owners

My wife and I stayed from Friday till Sunday.
We arrived Friday early morning, and since the rooms were not occupied, we could go there at 9.30 to drop off our luggage, and get some rest before heading out sight seeing.
Something you would not be able to do most places!

Each morning we stood up to a nice breakfast with bread, cheeses, cold cuts, fruits and juice.

The boat is about 10 minutes from the nearest station, which can be a little hassle with a lot of luggage, but if you travel light, it is no problem, and surely not something, which should keep you from booking this place.

The owners were really friendly and ready with good advises and a little chat.

    Highly recommendable.

    Thank you

    Hi Sylvia and Theo,

Thank you so much for a lovely stay. Your houseboat is very nice and it allowed us to see a part of Amsterdam we haven’t spent much time in before. A lovely and quiet piece of Amsterdam. Excellent breakfasts as well.

    Relaxing weekend

My partner and I we’re attending a 50th birthday party in Amsterdam. Our friend had given us numbers of house boats, one of which was Sylvia and Theo’s boat, the Dageraad.

We were greeted warmly by Theo who then showed us the room and operations on the boat in case we were unfamiliar with the mechanics.

Breakfast was simple yet extremely effective which both of us enjoyed. The presentation of it was excellent too. The room was clean and well presented. As a carpenter myself, I could see that the finish of the boat was professionally done with no visible flaws.

The atmosphere in the area and on the boat is tranquil and laid back. Just how we like it.

We both equally would recommend the Dageraad and the hospitality that goes with it.

    Very nice room!

We enjoyed our stay at this house boat very much. The room is very nice and the breakfast was so yummie. We wished a vegetarian breakfast and it was very delicious. I recommend everyone to also have a vegetarian one - then you have a true eco friendly stay. :-)
