In January 2009, we bought the 'Daybreak' while it lay frozen in the neighborhood of Bremen. It took some weeks before the ice melted and a course could be set for the Netherlands.
The ship was delivered to the Talsma wharf in Heeg, where it lay still for a year. In this period, we spent enormous energy on the design and concept of its new form and obtaining the necessary permits. We busied ourselves that year with demolition as and when it was possible, but the real work began only after the permits came in. The ship was then cut down to the maximum allowed length for its current mooring of 35 meters and fully gutted. We started with an empty hull and rebuilt from there, with full respect for the ship's form. The new construction has kept the form of a roof, steering cabin and 'kitchen'. The access to the roof deck (entrance B&B) has been renovated but kept its original form. Much thought was put into to retaining the history of this ship while maximizing the space inside.

Lovely relaxing stay by the water
We stayed for three nights on the houseboat. It was great. The accommodation was clean and fresh. The boat is not far (10mum walk) from a tram stop so getting around was very easy. The area Zeeburg was peaceful, green and open and made a lovely tranquil contrast from the busy centre of Amsterdam, and showed us a different part of the city. Breakfast was super and very kindly was served on deck as the weather was beautiful. The kitchen area was useful with fridge and microwave. Sylvia andTheo were perfect hosts - helpful and friendly as was Bink the dog. We had a lovely meal at a local vegan restaurant Bonboon over the water which was excellent in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Overall it was a real treat and we came home very relaxed. We would definitely recommend it. Thank you!!

Fabulous houseboat stay in Amsterdam
Sylvia and Robert were lovely hosts and made us feel instantly welcome and at home.
The accommodation was great and the boat has been refurbished to a very high standard.
The welcome bottle of Prosecco was very thoughtful and unexpected, and the breakfast was delicious.
I cannot recommend bookahouseboat.com and De Dageraad highly enough!
Two very happy customers!
