In January 2009, we bought the 'Dageraad' while it lay frozen in the neighborhood of Bremen. It took some weeks before the ice melted and a course could be set for the Netherlands. The ship was delivered to the Talsma wharf in Heeg, where it lay still for a year. In this period, we spent enormous energy on the design and concept of its new form and obtaining the necessary permits. We busied ourselves that year with demolition as and when it was possible, but the real work began only after the permits came in. The ship was then cut down to the maximum allowed length for its current mooring of 35 meters and fully gutted. We started with an empty hull and rebuilt from there, with full respect for the ship's form. The new construction has kept the form of a roof, steering cabin and 'kitchen'. The access to the roof deck (entrance B&B) has been renovated but kept its original form. Much thought was put into to retaining the history of this ship while maximizing the space inside.

Lovely place to stay
A friend and I stayed with Theo and Sylvia for 3 nights in April. This is a really lovely place to stay - the boat is beautiful and Thwo and Sylvia are amazing guests. They were very welcoming and kind, providing us with an amazing breakfast each morning. We are vegetarian and they were very happy to adjust accordingly.
The boat is really nice, you have your own private entrance down to a small kitchenette where breakfast is served with tea and coffee making facilities, sink, fridge and microwave. Our room was a great size and well laid out with ensuite bathroom with full size shower and shower gel and shampoo. The most amazing thing was the beds, they are SO comfortable. We had the best sleep gently being rocked to sleep.
The location is about 25 minutes from Central Amsterdam but its a lovely and peaceful location with great connection links and a couple of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and cafes just 5 minutes walk away.
The only downside was the internet didn't really work during our stay - this wasn't really an issue for us but if you need reliable WiFi its something to consider - it may have just been an issue while we were there and we didn't bother to mention it as we really didn't need it.
Response from the owner:
Dear Rachel, let me first thank you for staying with us. I'm glad to hear that you had a great time. And I'm so sorry to read in your review that the WiFi didn't work properly for you. I checked it the same evening and then it worked fine. I don't no what went wrong. Regrettably that you didn't mentioned it right away so we good fix it for you.

Peaceful and relaxing houseboat
Sylvia was very helpful in giving us all the details before arriving at the boat. We were warmly welcomed by Theo, his husband. The room was super clean, one of the cleanest I have experienced. The breakfast was amazingly good and well presented. I highly recommend you to stay at their houseboat, you won't be disappointed.
