In January 2009, we bought the 'Dageraad' while it lay frozen in the neighborhood of Bremen. It took some weeks before the ice melted and a course could be set for the Netherlands. The ship was delivered to the Talsma wharf in Heeg, where it lay still for a year. In this period, we spent enormous energy on the design and concept of its new form and obtaining the necessary permits. We busied ourselves that year with demolition as and when it was possible, but the real work began only after the permits came in. The ship was then cut down to the maximum allowed length for its current mooring of 35 meters and fully gutted. We started with an empty hull and rebuilt from there, with full respect for the ship's form. The new construction has kept the form of a roof, steering cabin and 'kitchen'. The access to the roof deck (entrance B&B) has been renovated but kept its original form. Much thought was put into to retaining the history of this ship while maximizing the space inside.

We Couldn’t Have Loved It More
We stayed here two nights last week and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. It was SO MUCH FUN. Tim and Sylvia were warm and friendly, making us feel very welcome and yet giving us lots of privacy. The entire unit was beautifully decorated and the kitchen was well-appointed. We were 2 couples traveling together and each had our own Bedroom and ensuite. Sylvia’s breakfasts were wonderful and generous. We especially enjoyed breakfast on the warm, sunny morning that she served it on top of the deck. We really wish we could’ve stayed longer and enjoyed it so very, very much. We highly recommend and if the opportunity ever arises, we hope to stay here again some day.

Sylvia was super nice, the houseboat amazing, her breakfast really yummy and the location is close to a P&R as well as the center of Amsterdam. Would absolutely go there again and more than happy we had decided to stay at the Daybreak for our vacation.

Sylvia and Theo were wonderful host and their house boat was an amazing experience. Beautiful rooms and bathrooms well designed and very comfortable. The top deck was amazing to just set the mood for being in one of the most beautiful cities in the world . Breakfast was incredible and close to the trams buses and supermarket. Would highly recommend this to anyone else wanting a memorable stay. Absolutely brilliant, thanks for letting us stay Sylvia and Theo .

Would rent this houseboat in Amsterdam again anytimeSylvia and Theo were were both friendly and professional. The accommodation was spotless!! It was peaceful and tranquil. Perfect for a couple or a small family. It is only three very shot stops on the tram. Close enough to the city and far enough from the madness at the same time. Both hosts were extremely helpful and the breakfast each morning was to die for! Oh, and the waffels! Thanks Sylvia Martina and Gerard - Dublin
