In January 2009, we bought the 'Dageraad' while it lay frozen in the neighborhood of Bremen. It took some weeks before the ice melted and a course could be set for the Netherlands. The ship was delivered to the Talsma wharf in Heeg, where it lay still for a year. In this period, we spent enormous energy on the design and concept of its new form and obtaining the necessary permits. We busied ourselves that year with demolition as and when it was possible, but the real work began only after the permits came in. The ship was then cut down to the maximum allowed length for its current mooring of 35 meters and fully gutted. We started with an empty hull and rebuilt from there, with full respect for the ship's form. The new construction has kept the form of a roof, steering cabin and 'kitchen'. The access to the roof deck (entrance B&B) has been renovated but kept its original form. Much thought was put into to retaining the history of this ship while maximizing the space inside.

We Couldn’t Have Loved It More

We stayed here two nights last week and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. It was SO MUCH FUN. Tim and Sylvia were warm and friendly, making us feel very welcome and yet giving us lots of privacy. The entire unit was beautifully decorated and the kitchen was well-appointed. We were 2 couples traveling together and each had our own Bedroom and ensuite. Sylvia’s breakfasts were wonderful and generous. We especially enjoyed breakfast on the warm, sunny morning that she served it on top of the deck. We really wish we could’ve stayed longer and enjoyed it so very, very much. We highly recommend and if the opportunity ever arises, we hope to stay here again some day.

    Fantastic

Sylvia was super nice, the houseboat amazing, her breakfast really yummy and the location is close to a P&R as well as the center of Amsterdam. Would absolutely go there again and more than happy we had decided to stay at the Daybreak for our vacation.

    Great stay.

Sylvia and Theo were wonderful host and their house boat was an amazing experience.  Beautiful rooms and bathrooms well designed and very comfortable.  The top deck was amazing to just set the mood for being in one of the most beautiful cities in the world . Breakfast was incredible and close to the trams buses and supermarket.  Would highly recommend this to anyone else wanting a memorable stay.  Absolutely brilliant,  thanks for letting us stay Sylvia and Theo .

Would rent this houseboat in Amsterdam again anytime

Sylvia and Theo were were both friendly and professional. The accommodation was spotless!! It was peaceful and tranquil. Perfect for a couple or a small family. It is only three very shot stops on the tram. Close enough to the city and far enough from the madness at the same time. Both hosts were extremely helpful and the breakfast each morning was to die for! Oh, and the waffels! Thanks Sylvia Martina and Gerard - Dublin

This houseboat is a hidden treasure

This boat and breakfast is fantastic. The rooms are clean, comfortable and the price is comparable with hotels in town. The hosts are friendly and go out of their way to make your visit a very pleasant one. The boat is located in a nice quiet safe residential area and a 10 minute walk from the tram which zips you into the heart of Amsterdam. There is a cozy sitting area on the deck which you can use to relax and enjoy a drink and soak in the view! Don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to stay in a boat and breakfast. One word of caution: there are steep stairs to climb in and out of the boat with narrow steps.

    Amazing stay.

We were all so impressed from start to finish with our stay. Sylvia and Theo were excellent hosts, the house boat was just gorgeous so clean and well equipped. The breakfast which was discreetly delivered to our table in the morning was absolutely delicious. The area was peaceful and the view you would never tire of. I can’t find a single fault. Thank you we had a brilliant time. Will be recommending and hopefully revisiting.

Amazing level of hospitality and genuine friendliness

As an expat in Amsterdam, I will send all my out-of-town guests to De Dageraad from now on. I recently had to find space for visiting family, who wanted to enjoy an "authentic" Dutch experience, but something a bit different from the standard options in the crowded city center. I thought a houseboat with private deck and views over open water could do the trick. As we booked both rooms, we had the whole guest area to ourselves, which made it the perfect home-away-from-home and a much better alternative than my tiny flat. Not only my family, but also I got to enjoy the amenities here. Each evening, we had pre-dinner cocktails (which we had the freedom to be able to make ourselves, thanks to a separate kitchen at the guests' disposal) on our own little terrace before heading off for dinner. The tram connection to the center was just a short walk away, but we opted for a quick taxi. My family loved being able to scoot into the city within minutes for sightseeing or dinner, while still being able to retreat to the boat for an undisturbed night's sleep. The breakfast was also quite a spread, much better than anything you'd find in a local cafe. Theo and Sylvia, the hosts, have also got to be about the nicest people in Holland and absolutely bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. Truly a level of hospitality and genuine friendliness you don't often encounter in Amsterdam. This B&B is one for the list - it's a gem!

    Wonderful experience, lovely houseboat rental

A wonderful experience being on the water with top notch accommodations and beautiful hosts (thank you Sylvia and Theo). Tranquil water views yet just a short tram ride to the hustle and bustle of the city center. A 5 minute walk along the water to a great little tapas restaurant.

    Very enjoyable stay, lovely houseboat!

Had a wonderful stay at Sylvia and Theo's place. The houseboat is very clean, nicely decorated, comfortable and cozy. All the major attractions are easily reachable by tram. There are two tram stations within a 5-10 min easy stroll. Breakfast was delicious and you will surely appreciate the elegant presentation. Sylvia and Theo were very gracious host. Would love to stay here again during the summer and take advantage of what living on the water has to offer! Only one minor drawback: the wifi connection was sometimes spotty.
