Hendrik's Cow Ferry is a rusty old two-storey houseboat located about 3 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station. This houseboat has just one guestroom and offers accommodation for max. 4 persons (please note that you can not stay with more than 4 persons). Hendrik's Cow Ferry is a budget accomodation; the ship is old and facilities are basic so do not expect luxury but all the more a laid-back atmosphere and a authentic place to enjoy and explore everything that Amsterdam has to offer. Smoking is allowed !
The room is located on the top floor of the ship in the former saloon and old wheelhouse. It has many large windows and offers unique views over the dock, towards the Old City, Central Station and many more...
In the room there are two comfortable bunk beds, large couches, a small sound system, Internet computer and a laid-back atmosphere to chill out.
Smoking is allowed !
On the top floor you will also find a small kitchen and basic toilet/shower facility.
In the kitchen you can prepare breakfast or small meals. Do-it-yourself-coffee, tea, some snacks, drinks and other basics are provided for free. Tap water is drinkable.
There is a hot shower (with great views over the dock) and the ship is centrally heated. Towels, soap and shampoo are provided (for free).
Finally the rear deck where you can hang out if the weather is nice. Be close to the water and enjoy the view! (Please do not disturb the neighbors)
IMPORTANT: you can not stay with more than 4 persons. Do NOT invite or bring unlisted guests or other people to the ship
Your captain lives on the bottom floor of the ship. Most of the time you won't even notice me as I am very busy, in general.

How to get there
Coming from the main entrance/exit of Central Station, turn left and walk towards the Grand Hotel Amrath on Prins Hendrikkade 108. Cross the road here and walk toward the ships. Hendrik's Cow Ferry is on the first pier, second ship on the right.
About the area
Our houseboat is docked in one of the oldest harbors in Amsterdam. Although it is very centrally located, the area is really laid back and surprisingly quiet at night (please keep it that way;-)).
Within a few minutes walking you reach the Red Light District, Central Station and the Nieuwmarkt, as well as the Dam Square and the ferry to the North side of town.
Welcome aboard the Hendriks Cow Ferry, built in 1905, hosting travellers since 2002

What a awesome place
I will start by saying not the sort to review a place but this place was so amazing I think it will be selfish of me not to let everyone know about this gem of a boat.
So the booking was easy and before we went was very easy to speak to the owner about arrival times etc.
When we arrived, the guy was there to greet us and get us all booked in. He explained everything in detail about the boat and its history. Which was interesting.
The stay overall was really good the boat was clean and tidy with everything we needed. The views morning day and night were spectacular. Being our first time on a boat was an excellent experience overall and will definitely be booking this again in the future. Have stayed many places in Amsterdam by far the best all-round place to stay to top it off you can smoke on there. I would like to say for a place you can smoke in it did not smell of smoke at all when we arrived.
Thanks, again will be seeing you again for sure.

Laid back and comfortable stay
Our visit to Amsterdam was unforgettable, not in the least because we chose to stay on the houseboat of Aart. Not only is he a great host, but he is also super lucky to have an amazing spot right in the middle of the city centre. When we arrived at central station it was really just a few minutes walking before we saw our boat shining bright along the pier. The interior is eclectic and we liked the atmosphere a lot. Although it is an old ship (don't book this place if you can't stand a few rusty spots), the place is clean and surprisingly comfortable. We loved to chill out on the large couches and sitting in the wheelhouse is also a great idea. Stand behind the big wooden steering wheel and you'll feel like captain right away. Fun fact is that is that the ship was originally built as a ferry for cows, as the name suggests ;-) The bathroom and toilet are straightforward and clean too. Furthermore there is a convenient kitchen, large fridge and even a computer with internet that you can use. Perfect for friends traveling together (there are four bunk beds, so no double beds, this was actually perfect for us). Thanks for having us Aart, and making our visit unforgettable!
With love from Brighton,

A Most Enjoyable Stay
I can't say enough good thing about Aart and his Houseboat. Check in and Check out were easy and pleasurable. The Houseboat is perfectly located for exploration of Amsterdam while still being located in a quite area for a good nights sleep. Very comfortable and roomy for Amsterdam accommodation and a great place to hang out and watch the boats go by. Aart you have done it right, I look forward to returning soon! Thank you!

Cool city centre house boat in Amsterdam
We hit Amsterdam with three friends and stayed at this amazing cow ferry (never knew such a thing existed). The space is large and bright thanks to all the windows. Not only do they let in lots of light, but it also gives a great panoramic view over the harbor that we grew fond during our visit. The location is just so amazing: close to central station, red light district, Dam Square, the Nieuwmarkt and last but not least the Zeedijk: superb asian food and lovely bars for wining and dining.
The houseboat offers a very special and relaxed atmosphere, so different from any other place we ever stayed. So if you are looking for a unique houseboat holiday in Amsterdam, I can really recommend this one!

Houseboat with a great atmosphere Show originalShow original
The houseboat is absolutely centrally located, a few minutes away from the main train station and yet very quiet with a beautiful view. It is simple accommodation, but practically furnished and was absolutely clean. Aart was a pleasant host, always helpful. He had stocked the fridge and the kitchen with some drinks and snacks that we could consume was included. We really enjoyed our time on Hendrik's Cow Ferry!
