How to get there

Coming from the main entrance/exit of Central Station, turn left and walk towards the Grand Hotel Amrath on Prins Hendrikkade 108. Cross the road here and walk toward the ships. Hendrik's Cow Ferry is on the first pier, second ship on the right.

About the area

Our houseboat is docked in one of the oldest harbors in Amsterdam. Although it is very centrally located, the area is really laid back and surprisingly quiet at night (please keep it that way;-)).

Within a few minutes walking you reach the Red Light District, Central Station and the Nieuwmarkt, as well as the Dam Square and the ferry to the North side of town.

    Laid back and comfortable stay

Our visit to Amsterdam was unforgettable, not in the least because we chose to stay on the houseboat of Aart. Not only is he a great host, but he is also super lucky to have an amazing spot right in the middle of the city centre. When we arrived at central station it was really just a few minutes walking before we saw our boat shining bright along the pier. The interior is eclectic and we liked the atmosphere a lot. Although it is an old ship (don't book this place if you can't stand a few rusty spots), the place is clean and surprisingly comfortable. We loved to chill out on the large couches and sitting in the wheelhouse is also a great idea. Stand behind the big wooden steering wheel and you'll feel like captain right away. Fun fact is that is that the ship was originally built as a ferry for cows, as the name suggests ;-) The bathroom and toilet are straightforward and clean too. Furthermore there is a convenient kitchen, large fridge and even a computer with internet that you can use. Perfect for friends traveling together (there are four bunk beds, so no double beds, this was actually perfect for us). Thanks for having us Aart, and making our visit unforgettable!

    With love from Brighton,

    Louis and friends

    Amazing stay

We had an amazing stay on the Beagle. Not knowing what exactly to expect, having never stayed on a houseboat before, we were blown away by the experience. The amenities are top notch, beds very comfortable and space very clean. The location was incredible with sprawling views of the city. You really feel like a local getting to enjoy one of the unique features of Amsterdam. To top it all off, Aart was a very gracious host making sure we had everything we need and always available to answer any questions and provide insider info as to the history of the houseboat and Amsterdam as well. I cannot recommend the Beagle enough, and will certainly book it again on our next return. Thanks Aart!

Houseboat with a great atmosphere Show original

The houseboat is absolutely centrally located, a few minutes away from the main train station and yet very quiet with a beautiful view. It is simple accommodation, but practically furnished and was absolutely clean. Aart was a pleasant host, always helpful. He had stocked the fridge and the kitchen with some drinks and snacks that we could consume was included. We really enjoyed our time on Hendrik's Cow Ferry!
