Houseboat summary

A private floating holiday home with all the comfort of a modern apartment, right in the centre of Amsterdam, yet in a quiet and laid back historic harbor. The ultimate and safe haven for those who want to explore our beloved city in style. That is the experience that we have to offer on board of our Luna Houseboat.

Houseboat description

Houseboat Luna is a spacious and modern ship with three bedrooms. There are two double beds and one single bed, making this place suitable for both families (with kids aged at least 6 years), couples traveling together and groups of friends. There is also a double sleeping sofa, if you are traveling with colleagues /friends and do not want to share beds.

Note that we accommodate a maximum of 4 guests.

In the former wheelhouse there is an unforgettable panoramic view over one of the oldest harbors in Amsterdam. This is where the sailings ships of the famous Dutch fleet during the VOC-era docked when arriving from their journeys to and from South Africa and the East Indies in the 17th and 18th century. You can still sense the unique atmosphere. Just look at the wonderful warehouses and the lifelike replica of the majestic sailing ship 'Amsterdam' docked on the other side of the harbor - truly mesmerizing. (You can visit this ship too as it s a part of the Maritime Museum)

Although you will find a huge number of great bars and restaurants within a stone's throw distance, you might want to enjoy a cozy diner at the houseboat. That is no problem at all: the large and fully equipped open kitchen has everything to prepare a great meal for you and your beloved ones.

The living room, adjacent to the open kitchen, is a warm and comfortable space to sit back and relax after a long day in town. The ceiling is molded with wooden planks, creating a very nautical and warm atmosphere. The wide windows just above the gangway let in lots of light, so you are assured to have a comfortable and bright area.

In the quite roomy bathroom there is a comfortable shower, toilet, sink and cabinets.

Last but not least I want to take you outside and invite you to the sundeck with outdoor table and chairs. This is without a doubt the best place to fully enjoy this wonderful area!

Next to the boat there is a garden where you can sit too and enjoy the smell of the flowers in summertime. You can jump in the waters and swim any time you like.

For those who are interested: the ship was built as a cargo ship over a hundred years ago. Initially to transport goods all over Europe. Later, the ship was bought by a cook and she transformed her into a catering boat for skippers and sailors in the locks of Amsterdam. People would buy a meal while waiting for the locks to open.

Getting tired of the many (nearly) accidents on the busy Amsterdam waters, the cook sold the boat and moved to... Australia. The new owner was a film maker who loved the romantic idea of water, and thought no central heating was needed. A wood stove burner should be enough. Until general winter arrived from the east and froze both the water in the harbor, the water pipes aboard and nearly the owner. So, central heating was installed and befriended musicians were invited for many (after) parties and live gigs. To get some sleep the film maker moved to the boat next door, and he decided to share this wonderful ship with great guests from all over the world. Be one of them, we welcome!
