Houseboat description

Our location

The houseboat is docked in a quiet and lovely canal with lots of other houseboats.  The free ferry NDSM Wharf is 20 minutes on foot or 5 on a bike. It takes you straight to central Station. Public transport is around the corner and you can reach the heart of the city in 20 minutes.

If you like to explore the typical Dutch landscape with the wide green fields and charming waterways, our houseboat is the perfect pick for you too. By bike the small villages of Waterland are nice to explore.  The Zaanse Schans, world heritage with the iconic windmills, is also within reach.

Great night sleep

Our guests appreciate our place for the fact that we're within easy reach of the centre, yet you won't find any loud tourist masses in our neighborhood. You will truly be a part of our community during your stay and enjoy the water life like a local. And you are assured to have a great night rest for sure in the comfortable double bed.

Private garden and swimming

After coming back from the city you can either chill out on your private room, or enjoy the garden with a roofed terrace that we offer to our guests.

During the summer you can go swimming in our canal, like many locals do.

Of course we offer all the luxury that you may expect from a comfortable room: good central heating, fast wifi and a private entrance.

Breakfast

There are basic breakfast things in the pantry: coffee, tea, juice, cereals. But please use the free bikes to get your own favorite bread etc from the nearby supermarket. And have your breakfast in your room of in the lounge place in the garden.

Bikes

2 sturdy city bikes are available for you free of charge.

Free parking

Yes, it is quite exceptional in Amsterdam, but we do offer free parking in our street!

We hope to have given you the best impression of our floating B&B possible, but don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. We're always glad to help!

PS one last thing: We are non-smokers and we find it hard to accomodate heavy smokers in and around our house. So if you want to smoke a lot, please find somewhere else to stay.  Thanks for understanding!

How to get there

If you arrive by car, be assured that you can park it for free at our houseboat.

If you travel by public transport, just take the free ferry that takes you from Central Station to Amsterdam North. From there you can walk to our boat in 20 minutes.

With heavy luggage you better take the metro 2 stops and from there the bus which stops just around the corner, This takes also 20 minutes

About the area

Amsterdam North is the next new thing, so to speak. Lots of culture, bars and restaurants along the shore of the IJ River (make sure to visit the NDSM wharf!), good connection with the city centre thanks to the free ferry, and not to forget the wonderful green fields and waterways nearby.

    Paradise in Amsterdam

We LOVED our stay at Elise's house boat!! The views are amazing -- opening your doors to be right on the water was such an experience. The space was super clean. The breakfast was awesome (we loved the self serve). Elise was communicative and very friendly. We borrowed a couple bikes to get around the area, which was really fun! Highly recommend booking this amazing spot!

Far above and beyond our expectations

There are accommodations a person stays at while traveling that become just as memorable as the city the person goes to. This is the case with the Albatross B&B in Amsterdam. A super cozy houseboat on an intimate canal in Amsterdam Noord across the Nordzeekanaal from the primary tourist hub of the city proper. I was very keen to do more than just stay in a hotel in Amsterdam, but staying on a boat in the city is overly expensive. The Albatross B&B is the same price as the very modest hotels I was looking at and comes with far more atmosphere and interest. However, I was initially cautious to book, as I had no idea how complicated it might be to travel in and out from the location to the city. It is easy. Probably even easier than negotiating the maze of streets for a hotel in Amsterdam.

First day we took the free ferry across the river from Centraal station and walked the 20 easy minutes to the houseboat. The next few days it was the bus, from the stop 60 seconds walk from the front door, to the metro line and straight into the museums and Amsterdam Centraal. Total time less than 30 minutes no matter which option. But the added bonus is, we now feel like we have been more than a herded tourist.

And this peaceful location allowed us to enjoy something that being in the city did not. Space. The large window/doors of our bedroom looked out over the canal on two sides. So it was 180 degrees of calm. We rented bikes for a cycle to Zaans Schaans, from the more than gracious hosts Elise and Richard, and when we got back, I opened the door and dove directly into the canal for a refreshing swim.

The breakfast nook is well appointed for a self-service breakfast and coffee. A Supermarket is a 5-minute walk away for guests to make up our own memorable cheese, pate and bread dinner, washed down with a complimentary bottle of wine from the B&B while overlooking the twinkle of houseboat lights down the canal. I do not think I have ever been able to relax after a day on my feet as quickly or as well as I did while staying here. The hosts were extremely gracious with their knowledge and help and it brought the feelings for the stay to another level.

My recommendation is: ditch staying in the city and give yourself the rare and charming experience of nights on the water at the Albatross B&B while visiting Amsterdam.
