Houseboat summary

Situated in the rural outskirts of Amsterdam this unique Riverside Studio allows you to experience the best of both worlds. Spend the day in the bustling capital Amsterdam, and come home to the tranquillity of the wide open polders, with iconic farms, windmills, geese, herons and storks.

Your three-night stay allows you to come and relax and see the beautiful historical estates that were built along the river Vecht by the wealthy 17th century Amsterdam merchants who considered it their back garden!

Upon entering your Riverside Studio, you literally leave the world behind and step into the placid rhythms of river life. Swans, geese, moorhens, jumping fish, storks, herons, ducks, of course, and many other river dwelling creatures rapidly become your new neighbours.

From May to August we share the river with small pleasure craft and day trippers, that make for a colourful summer pageant. But for the rest of the year, the river is ours. We're located on the riverbend between the picturesque historical village of Vreeland and the more practical village of Nederhorst den Berg. As you can see from the video, this offers sweeping river views south, east and west!

Please note: we maintain a strict no-smoking, no drugs policy.

Houseboat description

This 21sqm self contained studio apartment has its own entrance, kitchenette, bathroom, and outside terrace. There is proper sound isolation between the Riverside Studio and the Captain's Quarters to ensure total privacy.

The high ceiling and the sliding door to your private terrace, as well as a large side window that gives you a unique 'breakfast in bed' view of the river, make the studio feel spacious and light. Imagine waking up to gentle birdsong and watching the gentle river flow by, right at your feet.

The smart studio has been cleverly designed with the popular tiny houses concept in mind. Everything folds, in, out or up, and the kitchenette is neatly tucked away in a cupboard. This allows you to make optimal use of the space. And you can leave your slippers at home, because there is floor heating throughout.

The kitchenette is equipped with a microwave and two electric cooking rings. The fridge is big enough for a three-day food shop.

Electrical BBQ's are welcome to use on the terrace but due to the high fire risk, coal fired BBQ's can only be used on the neighbouring dike which has public access.

Bedrooms

1 Bedroom, 2 Sleeps

Queen size beds: 1

BED: The 140cm bed easily folds away during the day and is of the highest quality, with a luxurious bamboo mattress that will give even the most sensitive sleeper a good nights sleep.

BATHROOM: The bathroom has a large shower area, with both an overhead and a hand shower. In addition, there is a toilet, hand basin, mirror and shelf for toiletries, as well as a small storage unit under the sink.

Note: How can a folding bed be comfortable?

During the design phase of the studio I insisted on splashing out on a 'bed-cupboard' that would enhance the experience of staying in the studio, rather than impede it! In its first year of operation, many guests complimented me on the comfort of the bed and the excellent quality of their sleep.

For couples, the width of the bed, 140cm, should be taken into consideration. Having said that, the couples who have slept there the past years have been quite cosy and happy to snuggle up.

About the area

The Gooi and Vecht region truly offers the best of both worlds. You have easy access by car to Amsterdam and Utrecht as well as the airport Schiphol.

However, situated as it is on the border between the turf and clay delta, 2m under sea level, and the sandy high ground, just 7 km away, you can explore by car/bike or on foot everything from turf lakes and reclaimed land to woodlands and heathland. There is a folder in the apartment that tells you our favourite local walks and bike rides!!

At the end of 2023, a dream came true for me: living on a houseboat! I already knew Lysanne, the previous resident, and her paradise. When she told her she was leaving, the decision was made quickly. I would like to share this beautiful place with other lovers of water, peace and nature. Come and feel welcome!

Very nice weekend on a houseboat

We had 3 very nice days on the Riverside studio. The houseboat is very nice and is very well equipped. The view from the terrace is amazing. The houseboat is also very well located in a quiet neighborhood, but no to far from Amsterdam, if you like to spend a day there as well. Lysanne is very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed!

    A gem

The houseboat is a small an cozy place with a breathtaking view. The hostess is very sweet and kind, and accommodated our every need. Her dog checks up on you every now and then, which is quite sweet. We had the most beautiful vacation at the Studio. We'll eagerly come back again!

    Dear Lysanne,

your Houseboat is a dream!!! We were totally relaxed! You thought of everything, to feel good. It is small but very nice! We like it here and we are sad that we have to go home, but we will come back. Beata + Willy

    A true tiny paradise

We had bad luck with the weather, but that didn’t matter because we could stay in this tiny paradise forever. This tiny paradise has everything you need. Even in the train the views are stunning and the houseboat is super cosy. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and Lysanne is a great host. She made us feel very welcome and made sure we had more than enough privacy.
