Houseboat summary

When visiting Amsterdam with friends or family, I love to welcome you aboard my spacious houseboat, built in 1907. You will be staying aboard a former freight ship, completely renovated and now a very comfortable and spacious holiday home with a nice terrace in front of the boat. During the extensive renovation we made sure to insulate the boat properly. And we installed a brand new heating system, so you have a warm and pleasant stay during cold days and winter time. We're docked in a charming harbor just 3 minutes walking from Central Station. Although lots of main attractions are around the corner, you will be surprised about the quietness that this area has to offer!

Houseboat description

The houseboat is docked right along the quay, so you can step aboard right away. Once you enter the ship, you will see that many nautical details are still visible. For example the original roof elements that give the space a very cool and rustic ambiance. Also the portholes add to the 'ship experience' that we offer. Although I live on the same boat, you will hardly notice I'm there. The place is very well insulated and you have all the privacy you want. In the front of the ship you will find a nice terrace where you can sit and enjoy the scenery of our harbor.

In the apartment you have two bedrooms, each with a comfortable double bed and an en suite bathroom with a shower and sink. The bedrooms are adjacent to the living room. We have a separate toilet next to the living room.

The open kitchen is fully equipped and enables you to make a proper meal. At least, if you can resist the many restaurants that are found within a few minutes walking. Of course I will share my personal favorites with you. Furthermore there are many bars just around the corner. Just a few more steps away and you will hit the famous red light district, the Dam Square, Zeedijk and the Nieuwmarkt.

Walk a bit further and you will find the Jordaan Area on the West side, and the Waterloo Square and Rembrand Square to the South. All the other parts of town are very easy to reach with public transport, and of course by bike. There is a bike rental just around the corner.

Note that the boat is fully equipped with central heating, so you are assured to be comfortably warm all year round. Your apartment has a private entrance and you don't need to share anything with anyone.

Please note that you can check in until 19.00 for sure. And if you want a later check in, we kindly ask a service fee of 20 euro, to be paid in cash on arrival.

Just walk 3 minutes to the East and you will see our harbor right away. Could not be easier!

About the area

Our harbor is one of the oldest in Amsterdam and you can still feel the rich history thanks to the many old ships and the wonderful houses across the street. Although we live pretty much in the middle of town, you will be surprised by the quietness our quay has to offer. The reason it is a dead end where only people who live here come.

The following places are located within a few minutes walking:

* Central Station

* Zeedijk and Red Light District

* Nieuwmarkt (great bars, restaurants and terraces)

* Hannekes Boom (unique bar with amazing outside terrace, great bears and good food)

* Pollux (really laid back bar, right across the street)

* Nemo Science Museum

* Maritime Museum with a replica of the VOC Ship 'Amsterdam'

* Dam Square

    Boathouse experience

    Very comfortable, clean and spacious accommodation with two bedrooms, each with its own shower and basin. Walking distance from the Central station, in a small harbour, ie not a typical Amsterdam canal experience. Be careful on the steep stairs, especially when it is wet. Really nice boat experience!

    Amazing!

    Wow, everything about this stay was fantastic. The boat is roomy, clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. It is centrally located, but still quiet & cozy. It felt like home, and I will definitely stay there again!

    Wonderful houseboat apartment

    Despite the bad weather (we decided to visit Amsterdam early February) we felt truly happy aboard the Vermeer houseboat. There are two bedrooms with each a double bed. It was convenient that they could be put apart too since we were with four friends traveling together. The place is very light thanks to the windows in both the ceiling and the side of the ship. REcently the ship has been renovated and this gives it a very comfortable touch. It is basically like a modern apartment on a traditional ship, without loosing the character. We had diner in a Thai restaurant nearby and one night cooked ourself - both very convenient. Also convenient: the location. We arrived by train from Germany and within a few minutes after leaving the station we could see our ship laying along the quay. The lcoation is very central but also very quiet. Walk a few minutes and you are right in the buzzing red light district, Nieuwmarkt and Zeedijk. Thanks for having us!

    Amazing house boat… ideal location… perfect host

    My friends and I had amazing stay on Casper's boat house! He went out of his way to provide us information for local eateries. Could not ask for a more gracious host!

    Very nice stay in central location

    We stayed on Casper’s houseboat in August for 4 days as a family with 2 primary school kids. The location can’t be more central, it is very close to sights, restaurants and shops, yet quiet enough that you can sit outside at the picknick table and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. Casper is a friendly and approachable host, who is available for any kind of questions or help. We stayed in the larger of the two apartments, which was spacious, clean and well equipped to prepare a quick dinner if you happen to choose not to eat in one of the restaurants nearby. Our kids loved the big table, as “it seemed made to play board games” in the evening or a rainy day. The only downside is that it gets quite warm in the apartment as there is limited opportunity to open the windows (I guess this is part of boat life, as opening the portholes widely made little sense when the boat was still in use) and a sofa would be nice. So in summary a four and a half rating for a very pleasant stay at this nice boat.
