The character of this typical self catering B&B on this Houseboat rental is best described as cosy, quit and unique. The stairway gives way to the 30 sqm living/bedroom with a large double bed, comfortable sleeping couch and nice dining room, all in one space. The small but complete kitchen, well known to any ship enthusiast, has all utilities to prepare a proper meal for any guest. The bathroom is also not huge, but complete. So if you fancy a unique getaway, please don't hesitate to contact us and we look forward to welcome you aboard!
The history of this concrete ship, now an amazing houseboat with the B&B Forecastle, is just as beautiful as it is amazing. Built in 1943 as a so called ammunition ship it had only one purpose: supply the allied troops with ammunition, fuel and of course chocolate and cigarettes.
From Brittish war ship to Amsterdam houseboat After the war this boat has found it's way to Amsterdam where it's been used as a houseboat ever since 1953. The B&B, a studio with one Olympic Queen size bed and a comfortable sleeping couch, is situated in the eastern part of Amsterdam called Zeeburg. The name Forecastle is chosen because this part is actually the real forecastle of the original ship where the crew used to be situated during the crossing of The Channel. Now the space has been completely renovated and is furnished with a large double bed, a small but complete kitchen and bathroom. Please note that the ceiling is a comfortable 2.2 meters high, but the beams are slightly lower and tall people might need to watch their head to avoid bumping into one.
Location of the Houseboat The location in the east side of the city is very convenient for those travellers who like a quit night sleep and have a lot of space around them. The bikes - free to use - will get you anywhere in town in less then 30 minutes. Just wander around and you will see the great history of this old harbor area. At the same time you will enjoy the many places to buy local grown food, great coffee and wines and of course the organic market around the corner, every Wednesday. If you're travelling by car, we're glad to say that there is a cheap parking area at just 15 minutes distance (5 minutes tram and 10 minutes walking) where you can park for only 8 euro/day instead of the normal 3 - 4 euro/hour in the city.
