The Great Wide Open
Enjoy the wonderful views over the harbor and the famous Hotel Jakarta. Close to Central station.
- Large houseboat with wide views over the harbor
- Close to the city centre, yet quiet at night
- Comfortable and cozy interior
- Fully equipped kitchen
- Cool wheelhouse with amazing views
The unique thing about this newly renovated ship is that she can accommodate larger groups - up to 8 guests - very close to the city centre. The Great Wide Open Houseboat is docked along the quay of a large city harbor with amazing architecture. So you are sure to have wonderful panoramic views from the wheelhouse. Minutes away from the busy inner city, yet nice and quiet at night. The perfect starting point for exploring Amsterdam!
Note: this boat can only be rented for a maximum of 5 days!
We are proud to share this houseboat with you, perfectly suitable to host 4 - 8 guests comfortably. When renovating this ship we kept in mind that we wanted to offer a true -from-home. So although you are staying at a real big freight ship, once used to transport goods all through Europe, you will enjoy all the amenities of a modern apartment. We specifically welcome friends and (larger) families because it can be a nuisance to find a proper houseboat for over 4 guests.
All through the boat we offer a pleasant combination of comfort and coziness. Natural light enters the ship via the roof windows and charming portholes. We have used lots of natural materials, such as wood for the floors and large kitchen table to create a warm and homely atmosphere. The open kitchen is fully equipped and enables you to prepare a wonderful meal just like at home. And for those with cold feet: no worries whatsoever, we offer comfortable modern central heating all through the houseboat.
Next to the open kitchen there is a comfortable lounge corner with a large couch, flatscreen tv and a fauteuil to relax when coming home after a nice day in town.
There are three bedrooms, sleeping 6 persons in total (one bedroom with 3 single beds, one bedroom with a double bed and one bedroom with one single bed). In the living room we offer a comfortable sleeping couch that can be used for a possible 7th and/or 8th guest.
The bathroom offers a shower and sink. The toilet is separated.
Now something more about the area. This has been transformed from an industrial harbor into a modern and versatile neighborhood. Not only the architecture is truly striking, combining old warehouses with contemporary designed housing, but also the many restaurants, bars and hotels around are true eye catchers.
Within minutes walking you will find a Bagels & Beans coffee place, Burgers 'n Ribs restaurant, the famous Jakarta Hotel, Asian restaurant Happy Happy Joy Joy, a shopping mall, Nightclub Panama the wonderful Hanneke's Boom restaurant with large outside terrace, the Amsterdam Cruise Terminal and much, much more to enjoy.

About the area
The quay where the boat is docked is the edge of a former industrial harbor area. You can still feel the rugged atmosphere, but now with a more comfortable touch to it. There are many restaurants, bars, a night club and shops around. And across the bridge you will find the Java Island with superb architecture, and the famous Jakarta Hotel (make sure to drink a cocktail at the top floor bar!). You can easily walk into town and along the way you pass numerous cool things to see, do, eat and drink. Just to give you an impression, let's have a look at the points of interest you will find here:
- Burgers 'n Ribs Restaurant
- Amsterdam Cruise Terminal

I am a b&B owner already for 11 years, Also I was a nurse for 33 years so I think I know what people need to feel happy. I am a good listner and I am fast when for example the electricity stops on one of my boats.

The boat is very nice, the service of the owner via WhatsApp TOP! The tram (N26) is less than 5 minutes away, the interior is also good, although you can see the use of a few pieces of furniture. All in all, I would like to visit Amsterdam again and stay on a houseboat. LG

I spent a few nights together with my friends at the houseboat. The boat was wonderful and we liked to spent warm nights at the rooftop. Although there had been a few problems with the electricity we got help only a few minutes later. We highly recommend this houseboat and want to say thank you to the owner :)

Such a beautiful boat situated in a beautiful area. More than adequate for our group. Thank you very much for having us aboard.

The houseboat is spacious and comfortable. It is located in a decentralized area but very convenient to reach by public transport or by bicycle. Arthur is very kind and helpful. We have never met him but he has always kept in touch with us, also giving us useful information for the holiday. Unfortunately the kitchen and the dishes are worn and not really clean but in our case we almost always ate out so it wasn't a big problem. Amsterdam is simply wonderful!

Cheap for what you get, in a great location near the city, and get help from the owner.
Whether your looking for a weekend with the lads or a family vacation the boat is a great idea! 10/10
