Houseboat summary

Get ready for the ultimate houseboat experience in Amsterdam. After arriving at Central Station you take a left and within a few minutes you will see our lovely harbor, tucked away like hidden treasure, yet right in the city center. Enter your private houseboat apartment and you know you have made the right choice for an unforgettable stay in this buzzing city with your beloved one. Welcome to the Ivory Wheelhouse!

Houseboat description

The location is truly unique. Our city harbor, one of the oldest in Amsterdam, is located between Central Station, the IJ river and the inner city. Although lots of absolute highlights are just around the corner (from the Dam Square and red light district to the Maritime museum), you will be surprised how quiet this place is at night. Actually I still can't believe it myself, having such a secluded haven in the city center.

This is what you get

I'm proud to say we have recently renovated this ship, making it possible to build 'the perfect houseboat'. By using the shape of the ship, we have managed to create a unique and personal holiday home on the water.

The wheelhouse

You get aboard via the wheelhouse from where you have magnificent panoramic views over the harbor. During your stay you will enjoy the ever changing scenery. From the moment the city wakes up and birds play on the misty waters, till the nightfall with the last boats cruising by. We hope that during your stay with us you will enjoy one another and the pleasures our neighborhood and our city offers. This is why we do not have televisions or radio's on board. But for the ones who can not live without (social) media, we do offer excellence fast WiFi. The only thing you have to do is bring your own mobile(smart)phone or tablet/computer with you.

The lounge corner

Descend the 5-step stairway and you enter the lounger corner in the back of the ship. The U-shaped couch is a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast and make plans for the day. We offer a small but convenient kitchenette with microwave, coffee machine, water cooker, toaster and tea & coffee facilities, as well as a fridge. Basically everything to prepare breakfast or light meal.

The bedroom

Another 5 steps take you down to the most cozy and tastefully decorated bedroom you have ever seen, with a very comfortable king size double bed. We have chosen to use a combination of 'earthy' materials such as wooden timber-work, warm cotton bedding and rugged steel and copper details to show the industrial history of this former freight ship. Please keep in mind that kids below 6 years old are not allowed.

Along with the shades of ivory paint this results in a warm and natural atmosphere. There are plenty of wall- and very useful USB-sockets so you won't have any problems charging your devices during your stay.

The houseboat has also a comfy sofa bed for some extra space for your friends and family!

The bathroom

The bathroom offers a stylish sink and design radiator to dry your towels. Furthermore there is a comfortable shower and toilet.  The whole apartment has comfortable floor heating and great insulation so you will be comfortably warm even during the coldest winter nights.

Get out there!

During the spring, summer and autumn it is great to sit outside and relax in the communal lounger area on the quay. Please note that people live here, so we kindly ask not to be out here after 22.00 to ensure everyone getting a good night rest. We highly recommend to check out café  Pollux across the street if you want to stay out longer ;-)

Be part of our community

This houseboat apartment is part of larger ship that I may call my home. However, be assured that you have all the privacy you want - you probably won't even notice I'm there during your stay. Our houseboat is docked in a true houseboat community, and we love you to be part of that for a few days!

Before you book, please note: kids below 6 years old are not allowed on board - babies are.

Nice days on the Ivory Boat!

we have had three nice days on the very cozy and well furnished boat. Nina is a very friendly host. Quick check in and quick check out. The boat is located in a nice environment close to the city centre of Amsterdam. I like to say thank you for all.

    Very nice houseboat studio

It is a very clean and comfortable houseboat. Location is very central, near the station and close to the Zeedijk and Noordermarkt with lots of things to do. At night the area is surprisingly quiet, and lots of boats pass by. Happy and cheerful area. Thanks and all the best from Berlin,

    Gerhard and Erika

    Perfect weekend away

We have just returned from a weekend away for my husband's 40th birthday. The houseboat is a great location and cozy, perfect for the two of us. It's clean and tidy and we loved it. It made a nice change from a hotel. Very quiet at considering you are so close to the town center. We were able to walk everywhere, even down to the art museumplein which was the furthest area away from us. It was about a 45 minute walk but you could get the tram, however, we enjoyed walking as you see so much more.

Handy supermarket a 5 minute walk away and easy to find from the station.

Thank you to our host Lisa, we didn't want to leave!

Most unique place we ever stayed

Our first houseboat rental in Amsterdam was one never to forget. You get to the boat after a short walk from the station and we were surprised to find such a nice little harbor in the city centre. The views here are wonderful, with old buildings on one side of the water and very modern new architecture on the other side. The houseboat is renovated recently and very pleasant and modern. The bedroom is really a one-of-a-kind place, loved waking up here. Private, cozy and comfortable. And once you get off the boat, there is lots of things to do within the immediate surroundings. Highly recommended if you want the 'total Amsterdam experience'. Thanks for having us!
