Houseboat description

This houseboat offers two bedrooms with comfortable double beds and if required we also offer the option to use a double bed in the living room and the wheel house.

You enter the boat via the wheel house with a sitting corner, offering a great view over the water. This couch can be turned into a double bed.

Take the stairs down and you will find the bathroom on your left hand and a bright living room with a wood stove burner. This is a great place to sit back and relax during the colder winter days, but note that the boat is equipped with comfortable central heating completely. So you don't have to burn the stove just to get warm.

In the living room we have a record player with a great vinyl collection, as well as a mp3 connection. Here you will also find a sleeping couch.

With about 80 square meters the boat offers lots of space. And once you get off the boat you will experience that Amsterdam has truly wonderful natural green areas and even a forest! Our guests particularly love the outside space both on the deck of the boat.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions, I'm always there to help. Look forward to welcome you aboard on our Amsterdam Houseboat Haven!

Surprising - a houseboat can move

    Dear following guest,

the boat was what I expected: cosy, big enough for four, with basic comfort and as others wrote before not all the way tidy.

Surprising was: I booked the boat in January in the centre of Amsterdam. Meanwhile the boat moved to Monnickendam. I received no information about that until receiving the route-discription one week before travelling. So we had to buy extra overlandbustickets (which are not valid in Amsterdam) and spent time on the bus. The connection is good, but I booked something different.

I asked Anton for a fair discount (to pay the bustickets for two days for the four of us = 72 € = 15 % discount), what he rejected, because he would loose money that weekend. Fact is: I lost money, because I did not receive, what was promised. In my opinion it is an inappropriate behaviour.

Two hints at the end: 1. there was no lake view, as written in the "new" discription. 2. It´s never 80 square meters inside the boat, not even 60. Do not use the wheel house for sleeping, you will have no place to sit anymore.

    Excellent stay

We stayed over New Years, a party of six was more than comfortable on the boat. Anton was really welcoming and helpful with instructions on how to operate the heating etc. Even let us use 3 of his bikes that are on site! Communal showers are great if you want to save some water on the boat. Log fire is amazing and warms the boat up really quickly. Comfy beds. The surrounding area of Monnickendam is really nice, especially at night! It's around a 10 minute walk to the bus stop from the boat to get to Amsterdam Central, this will drop you right near the train station in Central. Would definitely stay again.

You will feel at home on this house boat

The desire to sleep on a houseboat in Amsterdam was irresistible and we were delighted by this accommodation! The decor details are great, you feel at home, ready to go sailing, listening to a 33 rounds. ;-) Located in a quiet and very nice area in the north of the city, it is very easy to get around by bus to the central station. Very good communication with Anton and Sarah, quick answers. We will definitely be back!

Thanks for having us on your houseboat

We really enjoyed our houseboat holiday. The boat is located on a quiet and relaxed area. It was easy to get to the centre of the city (about 15 minutes by bus) The free ferry to the centre is quiet a walk, but very doable when using bikes. There is a very good super market within walking distance of the houseboat - this was very convenient too. Thanks for having us!

    Lovely times close to A'dam

Anton is a wonderful host. The boat is cosy and seems like a real home, not just an AirB'B setting, I wish we had planned to stay longer. Central Amsterdam by bus is very easily reached

Swim around your own Amsterdam houseboat !

The lodging on the ship was very relaxing for my family and me. We loved the location, could see the whole harbor and swim a round every day. We reached the city quickly by ferry or by bus. Therefore a clear recommendation for this houseboat from me and my family!

    With love, Kim

Fantastic spacious boat in wonderful location 15 minutes from the centre of Amsterdam

Just spent 4 nights with some friends from Australia on Anton’s boat moored in Monnickendam. Boat quite rustic but very comfortable and clean, very comfy beds!

The location is perfect, moored in the beautiful town of Monnickendam, easily accessible to Amsterdam in 15 minutes by bus.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet Anton but he was very quick to respond to any questions, nothing was too much trouble.

We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend Anton’s boat and bookahouseboat.com!

    A beauiful place to stay

This houseboat is not an anonymous hotel suite, but a very romantic place to spend your holidays on. It's perfect for couples and offers two more beds for kids or friends. There is a fireplace and a nice collection of vinyls to spend the evenings! The gas stove and the kitchen equipment is simple and easy to handle. Electricity and heating are working properly. The actual location at the Marina in Monnickendam is just fine to shop some food in the local supermarket or enjoy the old dutch fisher village and have a drink at one of the the lovely pubs.

From Monnickendam you're at Amsterdam Centraal within 30 minutes by bus or you can explore the beautiful landscape and the neighbor villages Volendam and Edam by bike. The owner of the boat and the staff at the Marina are very supportive, everything worked out just fine! So have fun in Waterland! Ahoi*

    Wonderful houseboat experience

We stayed on Anton’s Houseboat, about 20 minutes outside of Amsterdam. The city was easily accessible by bus. Anton was a thoughtful host, and the houseboat itself was spacious and light-filled, with plenty of room for the four of us.

    Great spacious houseboat in Amsterdam

Really cool and quiet place to stay in Amsterdam. There were 6 of us and plenty of room for us al. Actually bigger than it looks on the photo's. Vinyl collection was great. Fire keep the whole boat warm, even in mid-winter when we stayed on this houseboat. Easy connection to central station, about 15 minutes and the local cafe is great for bite to eat.

Would certainly stay again when back in Amsterdam

Charming houseboat in Amsterdam with a great host

Anton warmly welcomed us aboard on the newly renovated houseboat, where the fireplace was already on. We had a great weekend. Going back and forth with the Ferry goes very fast, but there are also nice restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. The area (NDSM site) is still in development. This means that there are still some buildings under construction, but we found that actually very charming. In terms of facilities, the shower needs to be given some attention, but I think Anton is definitely getting started. We were staying here with two persons but the great thing is that the boat is also very suitable for more people.

Reply from Anton: Thanks for your great review - glad to say that the shower is fixed ;-)

    Great location for exploring Amsterdam

After the negative first impressions, which I might add, could really impact your stay, we found that this houseboat has a certain charm.

We would highly recommend that Anton spends a little time and money just tidying and fixing up the boat. It is undoubtedly a great area, the local bar the authentic Chinese coupled with the warmth of the local people, makes staying in this area a real pleasure.

Our stay unfortunately was during a rather wet and windy period but that did not dampen the enjoyment of Amsterdam.

The local bar/cafe is excellent. The owner and the young lady who served us were extremely welcoming, spoke fantastic English. We went there after our Chinese on the Friday evening and the clientele just accepted us as if we were everyday customers.

As mentioned earlier the boat needs some attention to bring it to a good standard. Tidying away some unnecessary items would be a huge start. Removing one of the wood burners would create extra space. The working wood burner however was superb, adding real charm and extra warmth during the cold spell and evenings.

We plan to return in the summer as I think the boat and the area will be even better, much like the Norfolk Broads but less pretentious.
