Houseboat description

  • The houseboat is equipped for a nice and cozy family life. Private houseboat with private terrace and the waterview throughout the windows is amazing.

On arrival you'll find a welcome basket with wine, juice, fruits, Dutch cookies, many discountvouchers, an information map with secret non-touristy spots and a cityplan. The houseboat is a unique, cozy, clean, comfortable home at a central location. Just sit back and relax on the outside roofed terrace and enjoy the birds and boats pass by while you enjoy a drink in the evening or your breakfast in the morning. Make your breakfast in the private, cozy kitchen and eat dinner at the many restaurants within walking distance; Foodhallen, Vegitalian etc. We (me and my daughter) live a healthy life, therefore this houseboat is completely nonsmoking. Inside, as well as outside on the terrace and we hosts only completely nonsmoking families and couples.

There is a basic vintage kitchen, feel free to use whatever you want from the cupboards. You'll find a fridge, gascooker, Nespresso coffee machine, toaster, waterboiler etc. From the kitchen you can step outside and get on the water side terrace. No better place for a first cup of coffee or tea .. Or glass of wine.

Lots of light is entering the boat and the large windows offer great views over the water. During the colder months January/February/November/December the boat is heated with a cosy and secure gas heater in the living room. Here you will also find a doublebed, measuring 190x140 cm on a higher leveled part.

In the seperate bedroom there is a comfortable, smaller double bed, measuring 180x130 cm. Ideal for your kid, a secure gasheater, washing sink and amazing waterview. Linen and towels, soap and shampoo are provided, so no need to bring any!

For an extra kid we can create an extra campingbed in the living. For a baby a baby cot can be arranged. I have a kids seat available. Baby's and children count as persons too. Maximum of 4 persons are allowed to stay, according to the new city council law.

The private bathroom is basic with a toilet and a nice pressure shower.

My Taxi service is available to pick you up from the airport and bring you to the houseboat within approx. 18 minutes for only 40 euro total.

Feel free to ask me anything, always glad to give all information. In case of emergency my neighbors/hosts will be standby. This listing and price is for the whole private houseboat located at walking distance from the Jordaan area, Museumsquare and Foodhallen.

How to get there

Taxiservice special price for my guests is 40 euro. The driver will pick you up from the airport and brings you directly to the houseboat within 18 minutes.

Airport busshuttle 397 leaves every 15 minutes from the busplatform just in front of the airport exit and stops 45 minutes later at busstation Elandsstraat. Get out and walk 5 minutes; Kinkerstraat, go left at Da Costakade. There's also a Niteliner nightbus if your flight arrives very late after midnight.

It is easy to get to the houseboat from the Central Station. Just take tram 17 and after 5 stops you get out. From there it is just a 3 minute walk (350 m).

About the area

'Oud West' Old West, but better known as "Gold West" nowadays as our part of the city is called, is known for the laid back and quiet atmosphere, but also with many main attractions (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Anne Frank House) within walking distance. But you are assured to have a good night rest since the tourist masses just don't frequent our canal. So you have the best of both worlds.

The houseboat is conveniently located on short distance of the buzzing Leidse Square (Leidseplein, 7 min. walking), Museum Square (12 min. walking) (Van Goghmuseum, MOCO-Banksy, Stedelijk and the National RIJKSMUSEUM) and the wonderful Vondelpark (7 min. walking).  Although the location is very central, you can be assured to have a great night rest since the actual neighborhood where we live is very calm, safe and quiet at night.

Great restaurants are surrounded at the houseboat. Indonesian, Indian, Thai, Dutch, Italian, Chinese, Japanese etc. are all within 5 minutes walk. Also the famous INDOOR FOODHALLEN is located at walking distance.

Houseboat owner

Cynthianne

I live, work and love (house)boats. I believe it's such an amazing place to be surrounded by water, birds, boats, have a private, cosy, warm, welcoming home and is also located at a fantastic location! Quiet and safe, central and unique. I am a skipper on several boats steering through the Amsterdam Canals (view Boattour by Locals and Book a Tour Rederij Paping) and work for an environmental company (Plastic Whale). I rent out the whole houseboat only 30 days a year, so you could have the unique experience to sleep on the famous Amsterdam Canals for a few days. I am living a healthy life. I host absolutely nonsmoking people and drugs-users are definitely not my kind of guests too. Me and my daughter prefer hosting families with kid(s) retirees, quiet and respectful people. I have made an information map with very nice things to do and see in Amsterdam, most things are free to visit!

    Wonderful!

Wonderful place to stay and terrific, helpful hosts. Great location - easy walk to food and sites. We had a group of 3 adults (1 couple and 1 single), and the space worked well for us. Our hosts were terrific - extremely helpful, great communication both before and during our stay. Highly recommend as a unique/memorable way to stay in Amsterdam.

    Great area of Amsterdam

We spent part of our easter holiday at Cynthias houseboat in Amsterdam.

The houseboat is very cosy (and very blue). You can sit on the terrasse and enjoy a glass of wine while watching a bird nesting on the other side of the canal or people rowing by.

The area is great. Lots of charming canals, all sorts of restaurants and cafés, parks, museums etc. We walked or bicycled everywhere.

Cynthia arranged everything for us and was very helpful and flexible.

We can highly recommend staying at the blue houseboat.

    Perfect Boathouse!

My wife and I recently visited Amsterdam and stayed in this boathouse and it was perfect! The owner was easy to communicate with and accommodating. The boathouse itself is very central and walking distance or a short taxi to everything. It’s on a quiet street but right around the corner are great shops and restaurants. I highly recommend staying here if you are considering a boathouse in Amsterdam!

    Stay in September

Very well located. The owner is very helpful with the organisation of the trip and safe arrival to the houseboat. Everything was organized for a good stay. I can recommend!

Very warm houseboat in a great neighborhood

When visiting Amsterdam make sure to check out this houseboat. We have been so lucky to stay here and didn't regret it for one second. The houseboat is usually the home of your hostess but sometimes she rents it out when she's away. It is indeed a home-away-from-home, but then a very special one: floating on a wonderful canal in a great neighborhood. Although there is a convenient kitchen, we did not feel the urge to cook with so many superb and cozy restaurants within a few minutes walking. And if you take a few steps extra, you will hit the Jordaan Area right away. Both the Vondelpark, Leidse Square and Dam Square are within walking distance. Thanks for having us Cynthia - I hope your place (and it feels a bit like ours too now ;-)) will be available when we visit your wonderful city again!
