Be welcome aboard our Quirky Boat House, a title that we are proud of. The owner has built this beauty from scratch with his father, resulting in a houseboat that is full of character and charm. I'm lucky to live here now, and during my holidays I love to share this unique place with you.
If you stay here, you will be sure to have a great story to tell. Not only because of the original design. The location on one of the most charming canals of Amsterdam is simply superb, and the waterfront terrace is truly one-of-a-kind. Plus: we have a charming dinghy with outboard engine for rent so you can be the captain of your own city cruise!
Houseboat description
After just a seven minute walk from Central Station you will reach our canal, one of the oldest and most charming in Amsterdam. You will notice that it is remarkable quiet, no tourist masses here. Enter the gate and step onto the boat, into a world that is unlike any other place you have ever stayed before!
Before you get into the boat, we recommend to take a look over the water and enjoy the view over the canal. The amazing neo-gothic Amrath hotel on the other side, the world famous warehouses along the water and the great terrace that you will enjoy so much.
And now it is time to step aboard of this floating house. You will enter the boat via the wheelhouse (yes, this boat was originally meant to use as an actual driving ship, but plans change along the way) with nice panoramic views over the water and street. This wheel-less wheelhouse gives way to both the bedroom and living room.
On the right hand side is the entrance to the living room. The wooden interior, the wood stove and many nautical details create a unique, warm and cosy atmosphere. The couch can be transformed into a comfortable double bed.
Next to the living room is the open kitchen with a high table made of traditional ceiling parts of an ancient freight ship. A great place to enjoy breakfast or diner, or just a cup of coffee while making plans for the day. In the fully equipped kitchen you will find everything you need for a comfortable stay. Apart from the regular utensils, we also offer a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer for your convenience.
On the left side of the wheelhouse you will find the bedroom and bathroom. Since it is a house that is built on a barge, we have to be creative when it comes to space. This results in a quite unusual, but without a doubt cozy place of the two double beds. The beds are located in the hull of the barge, and the space above the bed is quite limited. However, the size is quite large (200 x 160 cm) and the atmosphere really cosy. There are two double beds here, and both can be made private using the curtains next to the beds. For more privacy, you can use the living room as second bedroom.
The en suite bathroom is small but convenient and offers a toilet, sink and shower. All through the boat you will find original nautical details, such as charming portholes and wooden elements from other ships. The whole boat has convenient central heating, making it a comfortable place to stay all year round - even on the coldest winter nights.
About the dinghy: you can rent this for one price for the whole stay (see 'extra's). This includes one can of petrol. No driving license required.
We hope to have given you the best impression possible, but don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!
Look forward to welcome you aboard on my Quirky Boat House in Amsterdam!
Important notice to avoid disappointments: we do not welcome more than 4 guests aboard, and no pets are allowed. Therefore we kindly ask not to make enquiries for over 4 guests or pets. According to the Amsterdam law it is not allowed to have more than 4 guests aboard and we don't want to risk a fine. Thanks for understanding!
From Central Station you go to the left and keep following the Prins Hendrikkade when you cross the Geldersekade, you pass some restaurants one calle La Gouche. After that it's the first street on your right. After 2 minutes walking, you find the houseboat on the left side of the street. Opposite to a house with booter en kaas soorten at the wall.
About the area

Go with bus, tram, metro, bike-taxi wherever you want to go. We also have Nemo and different musea in the neighbourhood. You can make a boattour through the canals or a walkingtour with a guide. We loved our stay here. Ideally located, central, with lots of passing canal traffic to keep you amused as you sit on the deck in the sun and watch, but with a little more privacy than in some canals. The houseboat is lovely, beautiful old woods and old world charm but with everything you can need, and a helpful and interesting host. We would stay again.

We came as 4 friends wanting a relaxing holiday and this boat certainly delivered with its amazing outdoor decking and every feature and amenity you could want.
We especially loved the dressing gowns and pretty much spent 4 days in cosied up in them in the decking.
highly recommended and the owners were lovely, we would love to come back again.
An experience in itself

Fantastic location, right in the middle of it all yet quiet at night. The boat itself is really characteristic. Not huge, but this is largely compensated by the atmosphere it breathes. You can see that a lot of love has been put into renovating this place. All the woodwork is done by hand. Thumbs up for creating such a unique place on such a wonderful spot. Hope to be back during the summer so we can enjoy the terrace ;-) Thanks for having us Manolita!
The most unique place I ever stayed

We chose this houseboat because we thought it just looked amazing on the pics. And it truly was just as on the pics! And with the fire place burning at night, it was even better. What a great atmosphere this boat has. The weather was a bit rainy so we did not have the chance to enjoy the terrace, but it is without a doubt a great plus for all those other days. You will be greeted by swans swimming by, very friendly creatures ;-)
And the location is just top notch: a few minutes away from central station with so many great things to do within a few minutes walking. At the same time it is actually quite a calm canal that seems not to be found by the majority of the tourists. This way if really felt like a home away from home.
The bedroom is a bit different from all the other bedrooms where we have ever slept. The double bed is situated under a kind of roof. Not a problem, actually very cozy. We were traveling with another couple and they choose to sleep on the sleeping couch in the living room. This space was made more private with a curtain.
All together we truly enjoyed staying at this wonderful and unique houseboat in Amsterdam city centre. Highly recommended!

Wonderful gem in the middle of Amsterdam. Many cool restaurants close to the boat (Hemelse Modder, meaning 'Heavenly Mud' is really special! And restaurant/bar Kaptein is very cozy, easy going and tasty, both around the corner) and of course the buzzing red light district at minutes walking distance. However, the boat itself is located at a nice and quiet canal, just minutes away from the station. Loved the interior, the wood stove, the terrace, everything! The place was clean and the personal things left in the kitchen were actual very handy. We could use all the stuff, such as olive oil, pasta, spices, etc so we did not have to buy that for the few days we spent here. Felt very welcome!
Manolita Wieland and Manolita are renting out this lovely houseboat in the heart of Amsterdam.
