Houseboat description

You will be staying on the verge of the lovely village Broek in Waterland, only 12 km North of Amsterdam. The old part of our village is very beautiful, and is famous for the 83 typical Dutch wooden houses. Actually these are listed as cultural heritage buildings and protected by the local government.

The location is very convenient, with a small supermarket for daily needs, as well as some nice restaurants (De Witte Swaen) and a cafe (De 3 Noten). The North part of Amsterdam, which is very near, is being rapidly developed and interesting to visit, and where you can find a big shopping mall for all your basic needs. Just hop on the free 24/7 ferry here and you will arrive in the city center of Amsterdam. You can get here by bike (a wonderful route for sure) or take the bus that leaves from the village every 10 minutes and takes you to Amsterdam in just 15 minutes.

We have designed and built our floating home in 2016, resulting in a vast and comfortable living space of 160 sqm split into two levels. There are three bedrooms: the master bedroom with a large and comfortable double bed (200x200 cm), one kids room with a large loft bed (140x200 cm) and a cottage/cabin with a high quality and comfortable sofa bed (140x200 cm).

The space is fresh and light and very 'laid-back'. We have a 200 sqm green garden with a porch and a heater. There are many seating areas, fireplaces and a picknick table. Our garden borders a wide green fields with horses, for a ideal sunset end of summer. On the front of the boat you will see the waterside and boats passing by on a summer day. This all will give you a full time 'holiday feeling'. And during the summer time it is just lovely to jump into the water and have a refreshing swim, or take the kano.

When traveling by car, you can easily park your car along the water, free of charge. Getting around from the houseboat is easy. You can reach Amsterdam in 40 minutes by bike, in 10 minutes by public transport and in 10 minutes by car.

    Excellent stay!

Vincent’s houseboat was exactly as shown and described. We loved our stay! It was definitely and adventure! You have to use a ferry to cross the water to the houseboat which was quite cool and not difficult. The house is remote so plan on bringing groceries while there. We cooked two meals in the house which was an added bonus we hadn’t planned on. Jaap, the houseboat manager, told us everything we needed to know, including the closest local restaurants. We walked to them (20 mins) on our last night and dined with the locals and ran into lots of wonderful farm animals along the way! Would highly recommend this houseboat if you’re looking for a unique, one of a kind experience that is close enough, but also far enough, away from Amsterdam. We took Ubers into Amsterdam and home without a problem.

Superb houseboat very close to Amsterdam Show original

We rented Vincent's Houseboat for the Ascension weekend. The decoration is very neat, there were all the accessories, crockery... The beds are very comfortable. The location is in a quiet area in the heart of the Dutch countryside: cows, sheep, horses, ducks. The village of Broek in Waterland is beautiful, and a short walk away. We could easily get to Amsterdam by bus (expect a 10-15 minute walk to the bus stop). We also went to Edam by bus (with 1 day ticket, you can go to all the villages around Volendam, Marken...). I recommend this rental to people looking for an authentic stay while being close to Amsterdam, immersed in the life of the inhabitants of the polders, on the banks of the canals and who are not afraid to walk a little.

    5 stars!

We couldn't have chosen a better accommodation for our Easter long weekend in Amsterdam. Vin is a great host and we will definitely return to enjoy his cozy and comfy boathouse in the idyllic Broek village!
