We've been living on boats almost our whole lives - starting out small and gradually getting bigger as our children have grown up and needed more space! Devolu is pretty massive - an old 1924 barge that has been converted into a two-floored houseboat.

Brilliant family holiday!
We are gushing with praise for the wonderful holiday we had staying on the barge and exploring Paris. As a family we needed something to keep everyone happy and the easy access to the city and the seclusion and natural setting of the houseboat made a perfect combination. The interior space is lovely, decorated with quirky art and providing everything you need to live. The rooms are generous in size and well equipped. The weather was mixed during our stay and my children enjoyed playing the games and watching films when the rain kept us inside. The nearby supermarket has everything you need and the wonderful bakers is responsible for the extra pounds I'm now carrying! We used the mainline train into Montparnasse which was a 10 minute walk away. The trains were at least every fifteen minutes and the journey was about 12 minutes. A return ticket for all day transport is 9 Euros. I am a relatively inexperienced traveller and this was easy. We would definitely stay here again. The owner was super helpful and a great communicator and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this experience of Paris.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time, it felt like a home!
We are back home in Oregon now, happy to be here but so very happy with all the great memories of our time in Paris and on the Devolu. It was just the perfect place for our group of eight. A family with four teens needs room to spread out, and the Devolu provided that. Plus it was in a very interesting location, lots to see just outside the porthole. And close enough to the sights of Paris but out of the fray.
The Devolu definitely was our 'home' at the end of the day, the place we returned to exhausted but exhilarated by the sights and sounds and smells and tastes and experiences of Paris. The peace and quiet we required to do it all another day. Yes, we saw it all: on foot, on bike, up elevators to the top of the Eiffel Tower and the Pompidou Center, up and down the Champs Elysees, up to the top of Monmartre, the twisting staircase of Sainte Chapelle, and on and on.
Thank you, thank you for sharing what definitely felt like a home, not a hotel room. You have created an exceedingly interesting space, filled with art, family mementos, books and movies, quirky stuff and all the essentials of comfy living. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and are recommending barge life to all who hear our story.

We spent Christmas on the barge, perfect accommodation for 6 adults, warm light and airy. And we had a lovely Christmas tree and bottle of champagne that was a lovely extra surprise. We will be back, perfect location, quite no road noise but very easy to get into the centre of Paris, loads of room and very very comfortable beds which is a definite plus!
