For the record-
the Bassin de la Villette is the largest artificial lake in Paris. It was opened on 2 December 1808. It is 800 meters long and 70 meters wide. It begins with the Pont de Crimée, the last hydraulic lift bridge in Paris, and ends with the Place de Stalingrad where La Rotonde Ledoux de la Villette is located.
The bassin is also home to a MK2 cinema complex whose originality, in addition to its presence in converted warehouses constructed from metal beams from the 1878 Exposition Universelle, is provided by an electric boat shuttle service connecting the cinemas on either shore.
North by the Quai de la Seine and to the south by the Quai de la Loire, linked by the Passerelle de la Moselle in their center.

About the area
The new Brooklyn of Paris
Vivid riverside living....
Barges are moored along the banks of the basin throughout the year offering cultural activities such as theater, cinema, concerts, etc.
In summer the banks of the basin are used by fishermen, pétanque players, and picnickers. On summer evenings it is not unusual for the left bank (exposed longer to the sun) to be occupied from one end to the other.
Every year in June is the festival of the basin. There are festive activities on both sides (concerts, mini-shows, exhibitions). The celebration ends with a big fireworks display from the bridge.
The Lifting bridge of the Rue de Crimée or Pont de Flandre, a lifting bridge weighing 85 tons built in 1885, separates the two basins. It allows traffic on the Rue de Crimée to cross the canal and connects the Quai de l'Oise on the north-west side to the Quai de la Marne on the south-east side. When the bridge is raised pedestrian traffic can still continue on a fixed elevated walkway. At the time of its construction it was the third largest lifting bridge to be built in France. It is now the last one in Paris and is registered as an historical monument.
The second basin measures 30 m wide and 730 m long. This basin, which is often prematurely named the Canal de l'Ourcq, originally ran along the back of the old village of La Villette.
At its northern end is the "roundabout of canals" where the Bassin de la Villette converges with the Canal de l'Ourcq (which brings water for more than 100 km from the river Ourcq) and the Saint-Denis canal which, with a length of 6,647 m and a slope of 28.45 m, joins the Seine at Saint-Denis, as well as the small Darse du fond de Rouvray canal (a port for the canal ferry boats).
Since 2007 an extension of the Paris-Plages has taken possession of a large part of the quay of the Seine and offers taverns, restaurants, boat rides, children's play area, petanque, etc.
Rowing is practiced throughout the year on the water.
On the Quai de la Seine there are the Sup de Pub and Sup Career schools which are both INSEEC Business Schools.

I don't even know where to start! I'm not a boat person but this experience converted me! It was totally amazing and I would do it all over again! It was very clean and well kept! I couldn't ask for better hosts also. They were very accommodating and was welcome to any questions I had during our stay. It was the perfect location! It was a train ride away to the city and it was quiet enough at night but still had the night activity. It was very safe and the train was less than a 5 minute walk away. I can't wait to book my next stay! You will not be disappointed at all!

Stay at La Madrague House Boat, Paris, October 2019
We stayed at Madrague House Boat in early October 2019. The owners were very good with communications before our stay, contacting us and making sure we knew where to go and what to do beforehand. They personally greeted us on arrival, making us feel very welcome, and helping with explaining how everything worked on the boat. The boat was lovely. It had a very cozy interior and the surrounding areas were lively with lots of shops and restaurants close by. We would fully recommend staying on this houseboat as a change from the normal hotel stay in Paris.

A beautiful stay!
My mum and I stayed on Bettina and Laurent's gorgeous boat on the Canal de la Seine in May. Our stay could not have been better. We were greeted very warmly on our arrival by Bettina and she was so welcoming and hospitable, enjoying a chat over a glass of wine on the top deck, overlooking the bubbling social life of Paris around us. We enjoyed this beautiful and comfortable floating paradise for 4 nights, with its choice of 3 sun decks and 3 bedrooms. We loved just to sit and gaze about us at the people milling about playing boules, watching the little day trip boats, and the evening social scene. There is even space on the top deck to do yoga in the morning sun. There are plenty if convenient shops and cafes around and it is a pleasant walk of 45 minutes into Mon Matre. The metro is 5 minutes away too. The boat is beautifully fitted in warmly curved wood, is very clean and beautifully furnished. Above all, the communications with Bettina for any queries or directions was excellent, helpful and so accommodating. Thank you both for allowing us to enjoy your really special home on the water.

My wife and I had an amazing experience staying on Laurent & Bettina's boat. The accommodation is exactly as described with everything that we needed and more, even the bedding was luxurious. Situated in a beautifull Basin where one can really experience local Parisian culture.
Bettina communicated regularly to ensure we were ok and we apprecaited the same. We will defnitively be back! Excellent.
