I'm the proud owner of this wonderful and spacious historic freight ship, built in 1937 and now docked right in the middle of Rotterdam. Just minutes away from the Markthal, Coolsingel, Maritime Museum, the Cubical Houses and the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art. From Central Station it is just a 9 minute ride with public transport. When traveling with larger groups, you can book the two large apartments aboard. I live in the third apartment, so if you have any questions I'm there for you. Otherwise you probably won't even notice I'm there.
Each apartment has an own entrance and private bathroom, making the ship very suitable for friends and families who travel together but still appreciate some privacy. Let me share some information about both apartments to give you the best possible impression of where you will be staying.
THE CAPTAIN'S APARTMENT
The Captain's Apartment is a truly unique accommodation where you will feel like a real captain as soon as you enter the place. With a wonderful panoramic view over the harbor and large steering wheel this will really add something to your stay. In the warmly decorated wheelhouse there is a small kitchenette with sink, fridge, hob with two burners, microwave, coffee and tea facilities, as well as a table with sofa to enjoy breakfast, wining and dining. This part has comfortable central heating, so you will be comfortably warm even during the coldest winter days. And last but not least, here you will find the real captains chair. Yes, the ship is still sailing, however we kindly ask you to leave her docked where she is ;-)
The bathroom - small but convenient - with can be reached from one side of the wheelhouse (please note that if you're having issues using steep stairs, this might not be the best apartment for you). On the other side of the wheelhouse there is a stairway that leads to the very nicely decorated living room with original timber work and a very charming two-person bedstead. The floor has a nice herringbone pattern and the bedstead can be closed with two charming shutters. If required you can use the two sofa's to sleep an extra two persons, making this apartment suitable for up to 4 guests.
THE SHIP'S HOLD APARTMENT
The largest of the two apartments is the Ship's Hold. Once this was where the freight was stored during the long journey's over the rivers of Europe. Now is is a very spacious holiday home.
This apartment with central heating has a private entrance, giving way to the large living room with open fully equipped kitchen. In the living room there are three big red sofa's, of which one can be turned into sleeping couch if required.
A long isle along the side of the hull gives way to the master bedroom with en suite bathroom and separate toilet. At the other side of the living room is a second bedroom, also with en suite bathroom and separate toilet. Both bedrooms have a double bed, consisting of two single beds that can be separated if required. In total the Ship's Hold Apartment can sleep up to 6 guests.
Note that both apartments are located in a real ship, docked on a real tidal river. This means that it moves with the tide and possibly because of severe winds. You won't get seasick and it is part of the charme, but I think it is also good to be clear about this.
On top of the deck there is a nice seating area that you can use - a wonderful place to just sit back and relax while having a drink and enjoy with your loved ones.
I hope to have given the best possible impression of what the ship has to offer but don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Always glad to help, and I look forward to welcome you aboard!

How to get there
From Rotterdam Central Station you can just take the Metro and within 10 minutes you are at the houseboat.
From Rotterdam Blaak train station, located next to the Markthal and Cubic houses, it's only 5 minutes (0.5 km) on foot to the ship.
From Rotterdam Airport it takes only 35 minutes by public transport to reach the houseboat.
About the area
The houseboat is docked in a city centre harbor, close to many must-sees and -do's. There are lots of restaurants, bars and shops in the immediate surroundings and public transport, both over land and water (water taxi!) take you to all the corners of the city.
I love Rotterdam and I love my ship. And I love sharing that with other people and make them feel welcome and comfortable.
2 Reviews - Spacious Rotterdam Houseboat - sleeps 14
5-stars for this great Rotterdam houseboat
Unfortunately I slept only one night in the beautiful boat of Monique, with 5 colleagues during a conference visit. The location is great: a beautiful boat close to all kinds of fun in the city and easy to reach, yet quiet. Ideal as a base for a visit to Rotterdam. Furthermore, Monique's reception was warm and communication was quick and pleasant. Absolutely recommended!

You will enjoy this houseboat for sure
Monique was a very nice and discrete host. The houseboat (or péniche as we call it in France) experience was great, cleaned, nice space, nice rooms. You will enjoy!!
