  • What payment policies does Bookahouseboat offer?

    Bookahouseboat.com offers two standard payment policies:

     

    50-50%: Traveler pays 50% when the booking is made and the remaining 50% at least 30 days prior to arrival.

    100%: Traveler pays the full amount when the booking is made.

  • What cancellation policies does Bookahouseboat offer?

    Bookahouseboat offers four standard cancellation policies:

     

    Flexible: Full refund when cancelling 1 day prior to arrival, except fees

    Moderate: Full refund when cancelling 5 days prior to arrival, except fees

    Strict: 50% refund when cancelling between 8 and 30 days prior to arrival, 0% refund when cancelling 1 week prior to arrival, except fees

    Super Strict: 50% refund when cancelling 31 to 60 days prior to arrival, 0% refund when cancelling 30 days prior to arrival, except fees


  • What exchange rates does BookaHouseboat use?

    We use the exchange rates of the European Central Bank, these are updated once a day.

  • How do I find a houseboat on Bookahouseboat.com?

     

     

    Searching for houseboats using the search bar

     

    1. Go to Bookahouseboat.com.
    2. Enter the name of your destination (city, province/state or country).
    3. Enter your date of arrival and departure. If you don’t have exact dates, please estimate.
    4. Enter the number of people that you will be traveling with.
    5. Click Search.
    6. You will see the results in a List view, but you can also switch to Map view to see the exact location of each houseboat.

     

    Searching for houseboats using the map

     

    1. Go to Bookahouseboat.com.
    2. Click on the continent that you are planning to visit.
    3. Click on the country that you are planning to visit.
    4. Now you will see a list of all the houseboats in that country.
    5. Click on the Map button to see the exact location of the houseboats.
    6. Click on the pinpoints to see the detail page of a houseboat or use the +/- buttons to zoom in or zoom out.

  • Why is Adyen shown on the bank account statements?

     

    Adyen is the payment service provider that processes all payments made to and by BookaRentals, including Bookahouseboat.com. This is why Adyen is shown on the account statements, and not BookaRentals or Bookahouseboat.com.

  • How do I make an enquiry for a houseboat?

     

     

     

    Have a look at the instruction video avbove.

     

    1. Find one or more houseboats that you would like to stay.
    2. Contact the Owner using the enquiry form called 'Make booking request'. It is required to fill out at least the following details: first name, last name, telephone number, email address, nr of guests, arrival and departure date. You are advised to share some information about who’s travelling in the comment box on the bottom of the enquiry form. Also you can ask any questions you may have.
    3. Once you have entered the details mentioned above, you will see the total price, and the price per sleep.
    4. Click on ‘Submit request’. Now you will see a summary of your enquiry details. Please review the details and click edit if you wish to change the details. Always make sure your email address and telephone number, otherwise the owner won’t be able to contact you.
    5. Click ‘Confirm’ to send your enquiry to the owner of the houseboat.
    6. The enquiry is now sent to the owner of the houseboat that your interested in.
    7. For your convenience you can pre-pay for your stay. The amount required for your stay will be reserved on your chosen payment method. Only if the Owner accepts your Booking Request, the amount will be released to the account of BookaHouseboat. The amount will be released to the Owner at least one day after the check in. 

     

    We encourage to respond to enquiries as fast as possible. If you have not heard back from the houseboat owner within 24hours, it is advisable to enquiry for other houseboats.

  • How do I pay for my houseboat rental?

     

    BookaHouseboat processes payments only for Houseboats that are connected to our secured payment system. Advertisements of these houseboats show a form with 'Make a booking request' on top. Houseboats that are not connected yet to our secured payment system have a form with 'Contact the owner' on top. BookaHouseboat is not a party between guests and Owners of houseboats that are not connected. The following payment instructions apply to houseboats that are connected to our payment system:

     

    1. Depending on the Owner's payment policy, the Traveller shall pay the booking in full or partial upon receiving the Owner's confirmation. A reservation to such amount shall be made when requesting the booking, which amount shall be debited after the Owner has confirmed the booking. If the Traveller's preferred payment method does not allow a reservation, Booka Rentals will send a payment request to the Traveller after the Owner has confirmed the booking.

     

    2. The booking will be cancelled automatically if the amount due under the applicable payment policy has not been paid for within seven days from the confirmation of the Owner.

     

    3. If the Owner does not confirm a booking request within 24 hours, any amount collected or reserved on the selected payment method by Booka Rentals with respect to the requested booking will be refunded to the Traveller, or released.

     

    4. If the Owner confirms the booking and the Traveller has paid for such booking the dates of the booking will be marked as unavailable in the relevant Listing's availability calendar. Until the dates have been marked as unavailable, the Accommodation may be booked by other Members.

     

    5. Both the Traveller and the Owner may change the dates and duration of the requested booking, the price of the Accommodation for such booking and the number of people staying at the Accommodation. Owners who let several Accommodations may also change the Accommodation. As an Owner, you may refuse the changes made to a booking request by the Traveller. As a Traveller, you may cancel the booking if you do not agree to changes made to the booking request by the owner, in which case you will receive a full refund of all amounts paid with respect to such booking.

     

    Please check article 13 of our Terms and Condtions for all details regarding payments that are done via BookaHouseboat. 

     

  • What do I do if I do not receive a response to my enquiry?
    In case you don't hear back from the houseboat owner withing 24 hours of making your enquiry, we advise to enquire on other houseboats. We know it can be annoying if you don't get a response right away. Therefore we encourage the houseboat owners who advertise their property on our website to always respond as quick as possible, but for sure within 24 hours. However, there is always a chance that an owner has not direct access to email and is therefore not able to respond to your enquiry or booking request.

    Things you can do:

    1. Check if your enquiry / booking request was indeed delivered to the owner of the houseboat you're interested in. You can do this by checking if you received the confirmation email from 'Manager | Bookahouseboat'
    2. Emails from houseboat owners might end up in your Junk/Spam folder, depending on your personal settings in your email account.
    3. To avoid emails from houseboat owners end up in your Junk/Spam folder, adjust your email client's filter setting to allow incoming emails from "@Bookahouseboat.com". 
    4. Because Junk/Spam filter settings vary between email clients, we advise to follow the instructions for the specific email client you are using.
  • How do I ensure that my enquiries do not get lost in a spam filter?

    Emails from houseboat owners might end up in your Junk/Spam folder, depending on your personal settings in your email account.

     

    1. To avoid emails from houseboat owners ending up in your Junk/Spam folder, adjust your email client's filter setting to allow incoming emails from "@Bookahouseboat.com". 
    2. Because Junk/Spam filter settings vary between email clients, we advise to follow the instructions for the specific email client you are using.
  • Why have I not received my inquiry confirmation email?

    It may take up to 15 - 30 minutes for our system to send the automated confirmation to your email address. In case it takes longer for you to receive this confirmation email in your inbox, please do the following:

    1. Check the Junk/Spam folder in your email account for an enquiry / booking request confirmation email. 
    2. you might have entered the wrong email address in the enquiry form. In that case we advise to make another enquiry / booking request for this property, ensuring that you use the correct email address.
  • Why is my contact information appearing on all of the enquiry forms?

    When you fil out the enquiry form or a booking request for a houseboat, the form saves your contact details, dates and message to the houseboat owner in order for you to submit other enquiries / booking requests more easily. You can simply override these details by clicking into a field an start typing new information.

  • Can I change the number of guests once my booking is confirmed by the owner ?

    If you want to change the number of guests during your stay, please immediately get in touch with the owner of the houseboat and share your wishes. It is up to owner if your wishes are granted, and on what conditions.

    Note: In case a houseboat owner has not accepted our latest Terms and Conditions, all agreements are exclusively concluded between Owners providing the accomodations and Travellers renting the accommodations. Therefore Bookahouseboat.com itself is not a party to the rental agreement as long as the Owner  has not accepted the latest Terms and Conditions.

    BookaHouseboat processes payments only for Houseboats owners that have accepted our new terms and condtions, and are connected to our secured payment system. Advertisements of these houseboats show a form with 'Make a booking request' on top. Houseboats that are not connected yet to our secured payment system have a form with 'Contact the owner' on top.   • Can I change the dates once my booking is confirmed by the owner ?
    If you want to change the dates of your booking, please immediately get in touch with the owner of the houseboat and share your wishes. It is up to owner if your wishes are granted, and on what conditions. Agreements are exclusively concluded between Owners providing the accomodations and Travellers renting the accommodations. Therefore Bookahouseboat.com itself is not a party to the rental agreement.
  • What can I do if the houseboat is not as described?

    In the case that a houseboat is differs significantly from the description in the listing, you should first contact the houseboat owner and share your views with him/her. Often complaints can be solved right away if the owner is aware of the matter that you are concerned about.

     

    Another way of expressing your opinion about the property is to leave a review on the website. Reviews are a great way to share your opinion with future travelers and help them making the best choice when looking for a vacation rental.

  • How do I check in once I arrive at the property?

    Your host should always provide information about check in and check out procedures, directions to the property, keys and contact details. Always make sure you have the required details in good time before your stay. You, as a guest, should share correct contact details with your host. Please note that agreements are exclusively concluded between Owners providing the accomodations and Travellers renting the accommodations. Therefore Bookahouseboat.com itself is not a party to the rental agreement and can not be held responsible in case required details are not available to the guest and/or host.

  • How do I edit a booking request?

     

    Bookahouseboat offers the opportunity to make a change request regarding the number of people of your party. Note that this can only be done as long as the booking is not confirmed. Here is how you can can edit your booking request. 

     

     

    How to change the number of guests

     

    Click 'edit' to make a change request for the number of people that will be staying at the houseboat (see image below).

    In the pop-up as shown below you can change the number of guests and click 'Save' to submit for approval by the Owner of the houseboat you are interested in.

    Now you see a summary of your change request (see image below) and the Owner will be notified of your change request and he can approve or decline your request. Click OK to close this screen.

    Now you are referred to the overview of your booking request (see image below). Here you can see the enquiry changes that you have submitted. Once the Owner has accepted your change requests, you can finalize the booking process.

    How to change the arrival and/or departure date(s)

    If you want to edit the arrival and/or departure date you can ask the Owner to make a change request for these dates. Note that this is only possible as long as the booking is not confirmed. Or you can cancel this booking request and make a new one with the new dates that you are interested in.

  • How do I synchronize my calendar with Google Calendar and iCal?

     

    Sync your Bookahouseboat Calendar with Google Calendar and iCalendar (iCal)

    It is important that your calendar is up-to-date in order to avoid that you will receive enquiries for dates that your houseboat is not available. To make sure your Bookahouseboat Calendar is always up-to-date with other calendars that you might be using, we offer both Google Calendar and iCal synchronization. Please read below how this works.

     

    First login to your account here and select the property that you wish to edit. Now click on 'Edit calendar'.

     

    Import Google Calendar

    1. Click on 'Connect Google Calendar'
    2. Select the Google Account of the Google Calendar that you want to sync with (if you have multiple houseboats listed on Bookahouseboat.com, this account will automatically be used to sync with)
    3. Use the drop down menu to select the Google Calendar that you want to sync with
    4. Choose the color related to the houseboat as used in your Google Calendar
    5. Click 'Synchronize calendar'

     

    Stop and remove Google synchronization

    1. Click on 'Stop and remove synchronization' if you don't want to sync any longer with the selected Google Calendar. 
    2. The data that were imported from the selected Google Calendar will be removed. However, the Google Account is still connected to your listing and you can still select an event color to sync with.

     

    Disconnect Google Account

    1. Click 'Disconnect Google Account' if you want to stop, remove and disconnect the selected Google Account (for example if you want to connect with another Google Account). 
    2. The data that were imported from the selected Google Calendar will be removed. 
    3. This action affects the calendar of all the properties that you have listed on Bookahouseboat.com! 

     

    Import external iCalendar

    iCal is a file format that is used for creating and sharing electronic calendars. This calendar is used by many companies such as Airbnb, HomeAway and Bookahouseboat. You can simply import an iCalendar from another website that you might be using. This way you make sure your Bookahouseboat Calendar is always up to date and you will only receive enquiries for dates that your houseboat is available.

    1. Log in to your account on Bookahouseboat.com
    2. Select the correct property and click on 'Edit calendar'
    3. Enter the url of the calendar you want to sync with
    4. Click 'Synchronise'. 
    5. From now on your Bookahouseboat Calendar will synchronise every hour.

     

    Detach external iCalendar

    1. Click on 'Detach' to stop synchronising with the selected iCalendar. 
    2. All details that were related to this iCal will be removed from your Bookahouseboat Calendar 
  • How do I synchronize my calendar with Airbnb?

     

    It's easy to synchronize your BookaHouseboat Cal with the Calendar of Airbnb. 

     

    How to import your BookaHouseboat Cal in Airbnb

    To keep your Airbnb Calendar up to date with the bookings made on BookaHouseboat.com, please follow these easy steps:

    1) Go to 'Manage Listings' on Airbnb.com

    2) Go to 'Manage Listings and Calendar' for the houseboat that you want to edit

    3) To to 'Availability Settings' on the top right side of the page

    4) Go to 'Sync Calendars' and select 'Import Calendar'

    5) Past the iCal export URL of your BookaHouseboat Calendar. You find this iCal export URL under the button 'Availability' of the Admin page of your houseboat on BookaHouseboat.com

    6) Name this Calendar (i.e. BookaHouseboat Cal)

    7) Click 'Import Calendar'

    Please note that is might take up to a few hours before those changes are shown on the Airbnb Calendar

     

    How to import your Airbnb Cal in BookaHouseboat

    To keep your Calendar on BookaHouseboat.com up to date with bookings made on Airbnb, please follow the next easy steps:

    1) Go to Airbnb.com and click on 'Manage Listings'

    2) Go to 'Manage Listings and Calendar' and choose the houseboat that you want to export to your BookaHouseboat Cal

    3) Go to 'Availability and Settings' on the top right side of the page

    4) Go to 'Sync Calendars' and select 'Export Calendar'

    5) Go to BookaHouseboat.com, login and select the houseboat you want to edit

    6) Go to 'Availability' and paste the Airbnb Calendar link into the field 'Add an iCal via URL'

    7) Click on 'Add new iCal'

    Please note that is might take up to a few hours before those changes are shown on the BookaHouseboat Calendar

     

     

  • How do I add extras to rent?

    Extras are items you can offer as additional purchases to travellers renting your houseboat. For example, if you have a 'Parking space' or a 'BBQ' which you want to make available for rent, you can add it to your rates.

    You can find your property's rates here: "My Houseboats" > "Edit houseboat" > "Rates" > Edit or Add a rate > Scroll down to the "Manage extras" section.

     

    Step 1, enter the name of the item you want to offer as an extra.

  • How do I create the best listing possible?

     

    A good description of your houseboat will result in more enquiries and bookings. Please let us help you to get the best result possible with a some useful tips & tricks, starting with your free registration on BookaHouseboat.

     

    Step 1: Create a free account here

     

    Step 2: Confirm your registration by clicking on the link in the email you have just received. You will be directed to your personal profile page on Bookahouseboat.com automatically.

     

    Step 3: Click on the button ‘Get started and list your first houseboat’.

     

    Step 4: Fill out all the required fields. Describe your houseboat as good as possible, using attractive and informative language. Emphasize why your boat is so great. Our advise is to be enthusiastic and creative, yet always accurate. Here are some useful tips to give a good impression of your houseboat.

     

    Tip 1: Describe your space

    Guests want to know what they may expect. Therefore, always describe your space as good as possible. Do you rent out a complete houseboat, or just one single room on a houseboat. Do guests have to share the bathroom and/or guests? This is all very important and you can not be clear enough about this.

     

    Tip 2: Describe the atmosphere

    Every houseboat has it’s own character. Therefore it’s very useful to describe the specific atmosphere. Would you call your houseboat as ‘bohemian’, ‘modern’ or maybe ‘traditional with lots of original elements’. Well, you know how to describe your floating home better than anyone else.

     

    Tip 3: Mention your Unique Selling Points

    Very important: why is your houseboat so special? What are the unique features, making it as cool as it is?

     

    Tip 4: Give an impression of your neighbourhood

    Guests want to know where your boat is located, and what kind of neighbourhood it is. Give important landmarks, such as famous churches, museums and/or parks. 

     

    Step 5: Add great photos

    Good photos give the best possible impression of your houseboat. Make sure to include photos of every space in your houseboat. The ideal size if the photos is 1280 to 1920 pixels wide. Please make sure that the photo’s are free of rights (for example: the rights of photo’s that are taken by a official photographer of Airbnb lie with Airbnb)

     

    Step 6: Add location

    In this field you can further specify the location of your houseboat using the pin point. 

     

    Step 7: Add rates

    This field enables you to add the base rate, and as much special rates as you like. Also you can add ‘Extras’ that you might want to rent to your guests, for example: a kayak, canoe, fishing boat or hot tub. 

     

    Step 8: Update availability

    Make sure that your availability is always up-to-date. If your using other calendars (i.e. iCal or Google Calendar or the calendars of other rental sites such as Airbnb and HomeAway, VRBO etc) we strongly recommend to synchronize your calendar on BookaHouseboat with your main calendar. You can read here how to sync these calendars quick and easy.

     

    Please note: no-one wants to receive enquiries for dates that the boat is not available. This is both frustrating for the owners, and much more for the traveller. Therefore we consider a listing only complete if the calendar is updated correctly.

    Een goede omschrijving van je woonboot is het halve werk. Daarom geven we je hier in een aantal overzichtelijke stappen aan hoe je het best mogelijke restultaat behaalt.

    Stap 1: Maak hier een gratis account aan 

     

    Stap 2: Bevestig je registratie middels de email die je nu hebt ontvangen

    Beschrijf je woonboot zo goed mogelijk en benadruk waarom juist jouw boot zo geweldig is. Ons advies: wees enthousiast en creatief, maar altijd correct. Hier volgen enkele waardevolle tips:

     

    Tip 1: Omschrijf de ruimte

    Geef een zo’n goed mogelijk beeld van de ruimte. Is het een 'Stylish houseboat' die geheel wordt verhuurd, of slechts één kamer in een woonboot (bijvoorbeeld 'a private room in a lovely houseboat').

     

    Tip 2: Omschrijf de sfeer

    Spreek de doelgroep die je wilt bereiken zo goed mogelijk aan. Bijvoorbeeld met 'bohemian style', of juist 'modern houseboat with a contemporary design', of 'traditional steel ship with lots of original elements'. 

     

    Tip 3: Geef jouw Unique Selling Points

    Waarin onderscheidt jouw boot zich van andere? 

     

    Tip 4: Omschrijf je buurt

    Gebruik bekende landmarks/gebieden om een zo goed mogelijk beeld te geven van de buurt: Jordaan area, close to Dam Square, Amsterdam centre. Enfin, je weet zelf als geen ander wat jouw buurt zo bijzonder maakt.

     

    Stap 5: Voeg geweldige foto’s toe

    Goede foto’s zeggen meer dan duizend woorden. Het ideale formaat van de foto’s is 1280 tot 1929 pixels breed. Let er op dat de foto’s rechtenvrij zijn (de rechten van foto’s die zijn gemaakt door een officiële fotograaf van Airbnb liggen bijvoorbeeld bij Airbnb).

     

    Stap 6: Vul de locatie, tarieven en beschikbaarheid in

    Bij ‘Location’ kun je de exacte locatie van je woonboot bepalen. 

    Bij ‘Rates’ vul je de tarieven in. 

    Bij ‘Availability’ kun je de beschikbaarheid invullen. Lees hier hoe je de kalender van BookaHouseboat kunt synchroniseren met andere kalenders, zoals die van Airbnb en HomeAway. 

     

    Let op: Het is van groot belang dat je beschikbaarheid altijd up-to-date is. Niemand wil aanvragen ontvangen voor data dat de boot al verhuurd is. Dat is zowel voor de verhuurder als huurder erg frustrerend. Wij beschouwen een advertentie daarom pas compleet als de kalender correct is bijgewerkt.


  • How do I accept or decline a booking request after notification via sms?

     

    We will send you a sms message once you have received a new booking request. In case you receive a prepaid booking request, you will receive the following sms:

    On the top you see that this concerns a new pre-paid booking request for your houseboat, along with dates and the value of this booking request.

     

    To 'Accept this pre-paid booking request': click the link below the text 'Accept' if you want to let the guests know that they are welcome to stay at your houseboat on the requested dates. Once you have accepted the request, the booking is confirmed and we will notify the guest about this confirmation. Now you can contact the guest and share useful information regarding the check in etc.

     

    To 'Decline this pre-paid booking request': click the link below the text 'Decline' if you want to let the guests know that you can not accept this booking request. They will be notified automatically.

     

    In case you want to discuss with the traveler or edit the booking request, please login to Bookahouseboat.

     

    If it concerns a booking request for which we have not received a pre-payment, you will receive the following sms:

Once you have approved the request, the traveler can make a payment to finalize the booking. Please note that the booking is only confirmed after we have received a (down)payment.

     

    To 'Decline this booking request': click the link below the text 'Decline' if you want to let the guests know that you can not accept this booking request. They will be notified automatically.

     

    In case you want to discuss with the traveler or edit the booking request, please login to Bookahouseboat.

     

    After clciking on Approve, you are directed to the following screen in which you can actually pre-approve the booking request. In case it concerns a pre-paid booking request, you can accept the booking right away.

  • How do I accept or decline a booking request after notification via email?

     

    Once a Traveller has submitted a booking request, you will be notified by email as shown below (and, if set, by sms-alert on your phone).

    This email gives a summary of the booking request. Click on one of the four buttons to respond to this booking request:

    1) Respond to traveller in your dashboard (Grey button on top of email: you will be directed to Bookahouseboat.com where you can contact the Traveller)

    2) Pre-approve this booking request (Green button, bottom left of this emai: you will be directed to Bookahouseboat where you can pre-approve this request)

    3) Edit this booking request (Yellow button, bottom middle of this email: you will be directed to Bookahouseboat where you can edit this request)

    4) Decline request (Pink button, bottom right of this email: you will be directed to Bookahouseboat where you can decline this request> 

     

    Please note the difference between a prepaid booking request and a non-prepaid booking request:

    Above you see the buttons in the email of a prepaid booking request. If you click 'Accept request' the reservation is completed right away.

    See below how you can (pre)approve, edit or decline a new request from your personal dashboard in the Bookahouseboat website:

  • How do I edit a booking request?

     

    If you get a booking request, you can both edit the houseboat (if you have multiple houseboats) and the dates of the stay as long as the booking is not confirmed. Note that these changes first have to be accepted by the Traveller before you can approve this booking request. Here is how you can edit a booking request.

     

    How to change the houseboat

    If you have multiple houseboats, you might want to suggest an alternative available houseboat for a specific group. In order to do this, you go to 'My bookings' (see image below) and click 'edit' on the right side of the houseboat name.

    Now you will see a pop-up screen as shown below. Click on the drop-down menu to select an alternative houseboat, and then click 'Save'. The Traveller will now automatically be notified of your new suggested houseboat. Note that you can only edit the houseboat as long as a booking is not confirmed.

    How to change the dates

    You might want to suggest altnernative dates, for example on request of the Traveller. To do so, click on 'edit' on the right side of the Enquiry date (see image below).

    Now you will see a pop-up screen as shown below. Click on the input field right of  'Arrival date' to select an alternative date of arrival and click on the input field right of 'Departure date' to select an alternative departure date. Click 'Save' to submit these new dates. The Traveller will now automatically be notified of your new suggested dates. Note that you can only edit the dates as long as a booking is not confirmed.

    Once you have submitted your changes, you will see a summary of these changes in a convenient pup-up screen (see image below).

    In the summary of your Booking request, you will see a summary of the changes you have suggested (see image below). The Traveller has been informed an can either accept, edit or reject these changes. When the Traveller accepts the suggested changes, you can accept the Booking request and finalize the booking.

  • Why is the amount of booking requests used to calculate the average response time and acceptance rate different?

    That could amount of booking requests could be different for each of the statistics because of one of the following reasons:

    1. If the traveller cancels a booking request before you have responded to the request it doesn't count for your statistics.

    2. If the traveller cancels a booking request before you have accepted the request it doesn't count for your statistics.
