About the area

Historic Gems Along the Amstel

The Amstel district in Amsterdam, located alongside the scenic Amstel River, is steeped in history with charming canals and classic 17th-century Dutch architecture. Visitors can explore historic landmarks such as the iconic Hermitage Amsterdam, a branch of the famed Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg, located nearby. The area also features beautiful bridges and old warehouses converted into cultural sites, reflecting Amsterdam's rich maritime and trading past.

Cultural and Indoor Attractions in Amstel

Within the Amstel district and its surroundings, several indoor activities appeal to art lovers and history enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions at galleries, museums, and theaters, including the Amsterdam Museum and the Theatre Bellevue. The district’s cozy cafes and bookstores offer immersive local experiences on rainy days, while modern shopping centers provide a blend of retail and leisure.

Outdoor Exploration Along the Riverbanks

The Amstel district is perfect for outdoor activities, especially river cruises and cycling along the picturesque Amstel River. The scenic walking and biking paths invite visitors to explore the tranquil green spaces and waterfront parks. Kayaking and rowing opportunities are also abundant on the river, providing a unique way to see Amsterdam from the water. Nearby, the beautiful Sarphatipark offers a peaceful escape for picnics and leisurely strolls.

Wildlife and Nature by the Water

The Amstel River and its surrounding parks serve as a natural habitat for a variety of bird species and aquatic life. Birdwatchers can spot ducks, swans, and herons, while the river supports fish species that thrive in the clean urban waters. The nearby Amstelpark is notable for its diverse flora, butterfly gardens, and small wildlife enclosures, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts within the city.

    Wonderful experience!

The houseboat was beautiful, and I happily checked off a bucket list item in my life thanks to it! The interior is very comfortable and simply a very nice stay. I was a little nervous having to transport our luggage into and out of the boat, but that should be expected for any experience like this. Unfortunately, the host had a personal issue come up but was still responsive. I do have to note that it would be nice to have additional hand towels available for the bathrooms, and it was easily overlooked that shower soaps were not provided, just something to plan for. The location is great, just a few minutes walk from the neighborhood needs, and the tram is close enough for exploring the full city. Thank you for providing a great experience on the canal!

Exactly what we were looking for!

This stay was exactly what we were looking for. It was a super cute and fun start to our Amsterdam trip. The bench was fun to sit on, drink our morning coffee, and watch boat tours go by. It’s located in a super cute neighborhood that’s conveniently located near all of the fun things to do. We didn’t have any issues with spiders, only saw them outside when we were walking onto the boat. It was super clean and such a nice time.

In the neighborhood, there are boat tours you can take. Highly recommend Amsterdam Boat Adventures (family owned and only 12 people on the boat at a time).

We definitely picked the hottest weekend with 38 degrees Celsius, but thanks to the fantastic location, we were able to cool off in the canal. The houseboat was great, the location was great. Highly recommended!!! There were four of us men. The space and the boat were simply amazing! We'll be back :)

    Very nice houseboatShow original

We stayed on the houseboat from Thursday to Sunday. It had two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a small kitchen, a coffee machine, and a refrigerator. It was beautifully renovated with stylish furniture and comfortable beds. The location was excellent. Air conditioning and heating were also available. The entrance is a bit hidden, but we found it thanks to the pictures :)
