Bateau Le Grand - Super Central - Very Quiet

My husband's first time in Amsterdam and it could not have been more perfect thanks to our house boat home base. Joep was the ultimate host and we are so grateful he opened his home up to us. Location is ideal for exploring all Amsterdam has to offer by foot, bike or tram. Close to an amazing bakery for slow mornings with coffee and croissants and plenty of great restaurants nearby including a restaurant in the park right across the canal. Joep had everything we needed to make our stay feel right at home.

This was our first stay using Bookahouseboat. Joep’s place is in a great location. We found it easy to find our way around the neighborhood and to all the tourist sites in Amsterdam. Joep was a great host and gave us a ton of local information for dining and shopping. He responded quickly to our questions throughout our week. His home is cozy and right on the water! The neighborhood is quiet and felt very safe. Being on the canal was great for watching the daily boat action! Between the canal and the park across the canal, we were able to track a wide variety of birds. I scored 3 new life list birds while sipping coffee. He has the best coffee machine! We particularly appreciated how he made room for us during our stay and how clean his home was. Thank you for opening your home for us to stay! We hope your place is available if we return to Amsterdam.

We recently stayed at the houseboat we booked for three nights, however we only stayed one night. We felt a little uncomfortable with the amount of personal items all over the house. We knew we were renting a houseboat, but we were not expecting items throughout the entire home, including bathroom items left on the sink and food in the refrigerator. This houseboat is lived in every day when it is not rented out, therefore it just made us a little uncomfortable. I would recommend, for the price, going somewhere else if possible. We will most definitely be staying somewhere else for our next trip.

Your official reason to my on why you were leaving was being light sleepers and being bothered by the singing birds outside, even proving the quiet nature of the great location in the center of a busy city. As you can see, my reviews are always 4-5 stars.

Shampoo, body wash, soap, and hand creme in the bathroom are always provided as a courtesy, as you would expect. As far as the refrigerator is concerned, it has a courtesy bottle of wine, beers, and two types of water, and condiments like ketchup, mayonnaise, and butter to be used. The condition of the houseboat is always exactly as shown in the photos.

And yes, it is my home and one that I’m very proud of and proud to share with people who want a unique Amsterdam experience. This whole situation left me very emotional, and I’m sorry I have to share this with you in this way. I hope you will read my other reviews when considering renting my houseboat. Joep was a great host! His recommendations are great, and he was responsive to any questions that came up during our stay. The houseboat is more spacious than I imagined, and the view is lovely - even with the rain coming down, it was great to look out the many wide windows and watch ducks. Thank you for accommodating us, especially on short notice!

This houseboat was a great stay. It’s just at the edge of everything, which is nice and quiet. Joep met us to let us in and show us around his place. We undervalued this at the beginning of our 6 city tour. Trying to figure out simple things like washing machines in six different languages is a pain. Joep showing us how everything worked was a big help. He is an excellent and responsive communicator. He had a big booklet of useful information and recommendations; they were spot on. It was raining during our visit, so we did not get to use the deck as much as we wanted, but with more time, it would be a great place to relax. This place was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
