About the area

Canal Age Icons and Riverside Heritage

Amsterdam, in the province of North Holland, is a city shaped by water and trade, and the Amstel area reflects this heritage in full. Along the Amstel River you find elegant 17th century canal houses, historic houseboats, and sweeping views toward landmarks such as the Royal Theatre Carré and the Hermitage Amsterdam. A short ride away lie Dam Square, the Royal Palace, and the Anne Frank House, each telling stories from the Dutch Golden Age to the Second World War. The nearby Magere Brug, or Skinny Bridge, is one of the city’s most photographed crossings, especially atmospheric in the evening light.

Art, Museums and Cozy Brown Cafés

Indoor life in Amsterdam is rich and varied, particularly in the districts bordering the Amstel such as De Pijp and the Canal renowned institutions including the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Stedelijk Museum are within easy reach, offering masterpieces that span centuries. Smaller galleries and independent art spaces dot the surrounding streets, while historic brown cafés provide a warm refuge with wooden interiors and local beers. The Heineken Experience in De Pijp adds an interactive glimpse into one of the country’s most famous exports.

Cycling the Amstel and Parkside Escapes

Outdoor life flourishes along the Amstel River, where wide paths invite cycling and jogging with uninterrupted water views. Following the river south leads to pastoral landscapes of windmills and green meadows, offering a peaceful contrast to the urban core. Nearby Sarphatipark and Vondelpark provide leafy retreats for picnics, open air performances, and relaxed afternoons. Boat rentals along the canals and river allow visitors to experience Amsterdam from water level, drifting past historic façades and under low stone bridges.

Urban Nature and Dutch Wetland Wildlife

Though a capital city, Amsterdam maintains a close connection to nature. The Amstel corridor attracts waterfowl such as herons, swans, and coots, often seen gliding between houseboats. A short journey north leads to protected wetlands like Waterland, where reed beds and open fields shelter migratory birds. Amsterdamse Bos, a vast park on the city’s edge, combines woodland, lakes, and grazing deer, offering opportunities for rowing, forest walks, and seasonal birdwatching within easy reach of the Amstel district.

Most amazing way to experience Amsterdam

This boat, in this location, is perhaps the most amazing way to experience Amsterdam for the first time that I could imagine! I was here for a work trip but brought my family, and we felt right at home. The place is extremely clean, spacious, and beautiful. It's actually nicer than the pictures! This is a first for me with an Airbnb! Then there is the location. It's extremely accessible to everything we needed, the Cuyp market, Center City, the  museums, and great food. Also loved the beautiful early morning action on the water with ducks and a few boats, some rowers and swimmers. It was magical! Thanks for sharing this social spot, Valerio, who was also super helpful and communicative all week.

    This houseboat is absolutely Amazing!

This houseboat was absolutely amazing for our long weekend stay in Amsterdam!! The place is immaculate, and we loved the little spa room, perfect after a long day of walking! The instructions and communication couldn’t have been better, very fast response and video instructions for getting in. The beds were very comfortable. The place is very spacious, and the view of the water is so beautiful! The location was fantastic!! We were able to walk to everything and also easy to get an Uber to and from the airport and concert. Highly recommend!!

    A huge success!

Stayed a couple nights with my 9 year old son, who had never experienced a houseboat before. It was a huge success, he was very thrilled throughout the stay and very sad on departure. The boat is as seen on pictures, nice, clean, and comfortable. I can imagine the summer nights on the deck enjoying the views and sunset. Will be back for that!!

    Great unique experience

This was a great unique experience for our stay in Amsterdam. The houseboat is spacious and clean. The kitchen has everything you need to prep a meal and plenty of seating at the table. The views at night from the main room are beautiful and we enjoyed watching boats cruise by in the canal throughout the day. The tram and metro stations are close by as well as a grocery store. Check-in/out is simple and there is no requirement for apps. If you're looking for a unique experience while staying in Amsterdam. I highly recommend the houseboat.
