Welcome to your stay

Be welcome aboard our cozy studio on the houseboat. It's a very special place that I would describe as both charming and inspiring. Overlooking the world famous Prinsengracht you will feel like a true local. The location is absolutely triple-A, in the middle of the Jordaan area, and the iconic church 'Noorderkerk' right across the water. Although the deck house (the space where the skipper used to live) is not very big, you will have everything you need during your visit to our city.

Explore your stay

After arriving at Central Station, it's only a 15 minute walk through the buzzing and wonderful Jordaan area. Or you take a taxi from Schiphol Airport of course, this is on average a 25 minute ride. From the quay you get aboard your private part of the houseboat via the gangway, after which you first see your private terrace. This is without a doubt one of the coolest places you can imagine to enjoy your fist cup of coffee and make plans for an inspiring day in town.

Ancient but comfortable

Now let's descend into your private space in the front of our former freight ship, over 100 years of age but still going strong. In our rented part of the ship you will get all the comfort you would expect in a modern apartment, yet with the nautical character of a real ship. I especially like the characteristic wooden floor, combined with vintage Portugese tiles, and various portholes that are dotted around the side of the ships' hull.

Via the custom built stairs you enter the studio with a convenient lounge corner and table set to enjoy breakfast. We don't offer a fully equipped kitchen because we notice that most guests are not planning to cook at home after all, and space aboard any ship is kind of limited. However, we do offer a refrigerator, water cooker, coffee maker and microwave. We are more than happy to share our favorite restaurants and bars nearby!

Light and bright

Apart from the portholes, there are also various windows that let in lots of light to ensure a light and bright atmosphere aboard the place. So even though a severe part of the living area is below water level and the space is not very big, we have managed to create a pleasant ambiance. You will be sleeping in the very front of the ship, without a doubt one of the coziest places you ever slept!

If you decide to come with more than 2 persons (and you don't mind bumping into each other) the sofa in the living area can be turned into a comfortable double bed.

You will have full privacy in your part of the boat. There is one door that leads to our part ( I live on the other side of the boat), but this is closed and well insulated. The other door in the studio leads to the bathroom, conveniently designed with a sink, shelves, toilet and shower.

Conveniently located

The location could not be more central. Right in the middle of the Jordaan Area, with the Brouwersgracht (multiple times awarded as the most beautiful canal in Amsterdam) and the majestic Keizersgracht just around the corner. The Anne Franks House and Westerkerk are only minutes walking away. And maybe the best thing about this our place: the world famous Apple Pie-place 'Winkel' is located right across the canal ;-)

Some final words before you book

Boat is not suitable for the people with the balance and/or mobility issues or for the people that cant swim. Also keep in mind that you have to be strong enough to get your suitcases in and out of the boat trough the narrow entrance and down the stairs.

Last but not least we want to let you know that we warmly welcome guests aboard from all over the world. However, we are not a party place whatsoever. If you break any of our reasonable house rules (no smoking inside, no drugs of any kind, no loud music and party on the terrace, no visitors) we will have to tell you to leave at once, without any refund. I thought it would be better to be clear about this before you book, to avoid disappointment at a later stage. We have a good relationship with our neighbors and we like to keep it that way. Thanks for understanding!

How to get there

Cheapest (and fastest) way from Schiphol airport to us is to take a train to Amsterdam Central Station and then walk to the boat. Train stop is inside the airport and its a 15-20 min ride.
After arriving at Central Station, it's only a 15 minute walk through the buzzing and wonderful Haarlemmer straat to the corner with Prinsengracht and then down the Prinsengracht to the boat. Or you can take a taxi from Schiphol Airport of course, this is on average a 25 minute ride.
If you are arriving by car best thing to do is to leave it in a public garage during your stay. Parking around the boat is very pricey and difficult to find ( boat does not have its own parking spot)

About the area

Does the Jordaan Area need any further recommendations? Well, it's interesting to know that this used to be the poor man's neighborhood, nothing to be proud of. These days are over. Nowadays the Jordaan is the most popular and buzzing area's in town. Not in the least because the many amazing buildings, dating back to the golden age and giving the city the character that it's famous for.

Within a few minutes walking you will find more restaurants and bars than you can visit in a month, and many points of interest are really nearby. Think of the Anne Frank House, Westerkerk (Western Church), the Noorderker (Northern Church right across the canal) and the weekly organic market that is held every Saturday next to the Noorderkerk.

From the Jordaan it's very easy to get into town thanks to a superb public transport connection. This ensures that you can reach literally every corner of the city within an hour, and most places within 30 minutes.

    Perfect stay!

Wow, what a place to stay! Maja’s houseboat is in THE perfect part of Amsterdam, with lots of bars, restaurants, and cultural places nearby. We went to the nearby grocery market and had an incredible dinner of cheese, meats, bread, and wine, all enjoyed on the terrace of the boat. It was the perfect summer night, watching all the other boats pass. If you can stay here, you absolutely should! Also, the bathroom is much nicer than expected for a boat! Getting in and out of the boat is tricky, but that’s part of the fun experience!

    Comfortable, cozy, and well located!

My friend and I loved the houseboat. (We stayed in April.) The boat was more spacious and more comfortable than a hotel room. The main room is an open floor plan with a skylight. There is a good sized refrigerator, microwave, kettle, and Nespresso coffee maker. Table for 2. This is all we needed for our stay. There's a full size, very comfortable bed and the couch was made up into a bed. The bathroom has a heated floor which was wonderful on cold Spring evenings. We also had 2 days of wonderful weather so we were able to sit on the deck and have picnics. The location is wonderful and close to many attractions. There was also an outdoor market across the canal on Saturday morning. I would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful time on The Jordan Deck House

I recently stayed 7 nights on the Jordan Deck House. It was a magical, wonderful time. The apartment is fitted out beautifully with fine attention to detail. The bathroom has a great shower with loads of hot water (or cool) and the bed is super comfortable. The location is perfect, easy walking distance to at least 2 tram lines and to a food store and drug store as well as restaurants and specialty food and clothing shops. Mornings and evenings were spent on the terrace - having breakfast or just watching the world go by. I absolutely love Amsterdam and staying on this houseboat was a perfect way to make my visit. Maja is a great host, there if you need her but not the least bit intrusive.

Nice place but you should know…

The place is in a great location and is done up nicely with everything you need for a pleasant stay - Wi-Fi, fridge, microwave, Nespresso, kettle. Three adults would be tight but doable since you don’t really want to spend your time at “home” anyway. A few things to note: you have to bend down to fit in the doorway and immediately climb down stairs to get in. It’s fine unless you have any back issues, in which case you should look elsewhere. The entrance also makes large bags difficult to maneuver. There is a church across the canal with a bell that chimes every 30 minutes. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. It was great to stay away from all of the other tourists, and you are just across the bridge from the weekend market.
