Modern houseboat: a hidden gem in the city centre

This place is something different. Book it for the unique experience of waking up in a cozy quirky space, looking out over the Amsterdam canal... Book it for the quiet location, with the city centre within reasonable walking distance. This place has a lot of charm, just don't expect a luxury hotel room, but instead enjoy a unique and interesting experience :-)

We were very pleased with our stay on the Lucy Lou. It is in a wonderful quiet location and sitting on the deck surveying the canal with a cold beverage was very relaxing after a busy day.

It's about a 10 minute walk up to a busy street with lots of shops and restaurants. You can also get the bus (#48) about a 5 minute walk away to take you to Central Station from which you can access transit to all parts of the city or take a train for an out of town day trip. Best to buy a transit pass there which you can purchase for an hour or for as many days as you require. From Central Station it's also an easy walk to Old Town and the Red Light district.

The apartment itself is quite small and features minimal cooking facilities, really only a coffee maker and a small fridge and enough dishes for two. It is suitable only for couples. We brought in groceries for breakfast but ate all our other meals out. The bed was very comfortable but is in a kind of loft so getting in and out could be a bit challenging if you have mobility issues. Bathroom and shower were small but adequate with lots of hot water. Ed and Nadine were very kind and gracious hosts and gave us lots of good tips. Overall I would say the best thing about the Lucy Lou is the location, it really is a lovely quiet home base in the heart of a big city.

My partner and I had the loveliest stay on Nadine’s beautiful houseboat! We arrived via Eurostar and walked from the station to the boat. Nadine let us know we could drop our bags before we headed out for the day. The house is just as described. While the space is small, it is laid out in a very convenient way to maximize space. I wish our stay was longer, but all the more reason to plan another visit! Thank you, Nadine and family, for the lovely accommodations! Cheers xx

I didn’t quite know what to expect from this stay, having not stayed on a houseboat before. It was a beautiful little space, perfect to get away from the busy streets of the main city and it’s very sturdy. With only a 10-15 minute walk into town, or a couple of minutes on a bike, it’s perfect. Nadine was very friendly, offering advice on places to visit and letting us drop off our bags early. The personal touch with a note thanking us for staying and a little glass of fizz was sweet. Couldn’t ask for more for a long weekend.

It was a great time on the boat and there is everything you need. We slept great, it's totally quiet there and you can relax a bit from the noisy city :)
