Houseboat summary
Our houseboat sits on a sunny and quiet canal in the heart of Amsterdam, close to Centraal Station, Anne Frank House, The Jordaan and the Canals. Enjoy the view with a glass of wine or a Dutch beer in the steering cabin. The space is centrally heated and double glazed for chilly days. Your space is totally private with your own bathroom, bedroom, captain's room and wheel house. You also have access to outside space on our pier where you can relax into the evening on warm summer nights.
Houseboat description
Your space is in a private section of our houseboat, with private entrance and access to our private pier (shared with our neighbors). This B&B portion of our ship is located closest to the quay and is separated from the main cabin (where we live). It features central heating, double glazed windows for extra insulation, operable windows, 3 rooms, each on its own level; the Wheel House with views out onto the water, the Captain's Room, and a sweet cozy bedroom with a comfortable two-person bed. Do be aware that the ceiling height is comfortable for those with a maximum height of 6ft 2 inches tall. You will have to duck your head in places! The newly built bathroom features a natural stone sink, and the shower has a porthole window with a great view of the canal. Towels, extra blankets hairdryer, shampoo, and bath gel are all provided!
Our charming and cozy houseboat is an authentic Haagenaar ship built in the1900, originally used to carry salt throughout Holland and Europe. It now sits on a picturesque, sunny and quiet canal in the center of Amsterdam, just a 5-minute walk from the beautiful historic canal district, the Jordaan neighborhood, Haarlemmerbuurt, the 9 Streets (great shopping) and Central Station with trams, buses, and the NS Train.
The bathroom features a natural stone sink, and the shower has a porthole window with a great view out onto the water. It also features a large private (shared with our lovely neighbors) pier decorated with flowers, plants and herbs, and seating made from recycled hardwood.
Only a few moments away walking or by bike from 2 of the best bio-organic markets in Amsterdam, it's a culinary dream. It is also walking distance to several excellent restaurants including Marius, Pikoteo, Bikkers aan de Werf as well as a few local bars and cafs such as Westerdok Cafe, Blaauwhooft, De Gouden Reael and many more in the nearby Jordaan neighbourbood. See our Guidbook section for more recommendations!

- A couple of cold Dutch beers
- Wireless high-speed internet (200/20 Mbps) suitable for high-demand use

In general, we have some interaction with our guests and are here to check you in and out. We like to give our guests the space they need and endeavor to be as least intrusive as possible. That being said, if guests have questions or need anything, we are only a knock on the hatch away and we are happy to be of help.
We are lucky to live in one of Amsterdam's hippest neighborhoods. Our canal is wide and quiet even though it's right in the city center. We are just a 5-minute walk to great markets, shops, cafes, and restaurants. After a day of sightseeing and enjoying all that Amsterdam has to offer, it's a great place to come home to and relax while you look out onto the water.

How to get there
UBER:
We suggest that instead of taking a TAXI, to take Uber. This way you won't get overcharged or dropped off in the wrong place!
If you do decide to take a TAXI, make sure you get one outside at the taxi stand and agree to a price before getting in. It should not cost any more than €40.
From Amsterdam Schiphol Airport by Train:
After clearing customs at Schiphol Airport, you will follow the signs to the train terminal area above ground. You will find a yellow ticket dispenser where you can buy your train tickets to Amsterdam Centraal Station. Just press English and follow instructions. The machines do not accept credit cards, only Pin (I believe). Some do accept Euros, bills, and coins. Once you get to Amsterdam Centraal Station, exit from the rear of the station on the Ij River side (IJ Zijd on the signs).
Driving:
From the A2 follow Amsterdam northeast onto the A10, take exit S114. At end of exit, turn left and continue straight along through the tunnel.
You can park close by, just on the next street over at IJDock garage for Just €12.50- per day, but you need to reserve your spot ahead of time here:
parkereninijdock.
Scroll down to 24-hour parking and select your date and time and hit "reserve". If you do not reserve Parking here ahead of time, you will have to pay the full cost of €25 per day.
There is paid street parking, but it is €5/hour, so please ensure you pay at the little vending machines. Just enter your license plate number and pay with a chip card.
From Schiphol Airport by car:
Follow the EXIT signs to Amsterdam A4. When on the A4 towards Amsterdam and you hit the intersection with the A10 (Knooppunt de Nieuwe Meer) keep right and merge onto the A10 direction; West / Zaandam / S107-S101.
About the area
Our nieghbourhood is a a stone's throw away from the best farmers markets, shops, bars and restaurants, but here it is quiet and relaxing and mostly residential. A great mix of new and historic, artists and creatives and even a brew pup just a few houses down.
Houseboat owner
Jake & Ayla
Hi we are Ayla & jake a Dutch couple (I am originally American, now proud to be dutch too). We love to travel and meet people, so having a b&b is a great way to bring the world closer to us! We were introduced to each other on a hot summer's day at a beach party at Blijburg by Jake's dog Max (who was on the planet for over 15 years) Life was never the same.
We now have Akasha, (or should I say she has us!) a very pretty young dog rescued from the woods in southern Italy.
Living on the water has always been a dream for us, and in 2008 we made it a reality. We found our ship (The Hope) when this neighbourhood was transforming and it is the ideal mix between being close city centre and a quiet life on the water. Also we are so lucky to have the best neighbours and a great local community of caring people around us. Cooking for friends and practicing yoga are dear to my heart as well as my appreciation for Dutch art and design. Jake has his own design agency in town and cycles to work. I am currently working on two MAs at the University of Amsterdam, one in philosophy, the other in English Literature and Culture.
