Welcome to your stay

The houseboat is situated in a quiet area in Amsterdam North only 15 minutes away from the city center and at the same time close to the national park "Twiske". Amsterdam is bicycle city number 1 in the world and to experience Amsterdam to the fullest a bicycle is a must. We provide four bikes that are included in the price (mind you to rent a bike at a rental shop will cost you about €20 per bike per 24 hours). You can reach the city center by ferry, which is for free and bikes can be taken along. Since our houseboat is just a 5 minute bike ride away from the ferry you can enjoy the busy city during the day and chill out at night chill in a peaceful environment.

Our place is easy to reach by car, but be aware of the parking costs: € 1,72 per hour, Monday - Saturday 09:00 tot 19:00. At Sundays parking is free.

There is a supermarket only 5 minutes away and there are plenty of nice restaurants in the area.

Together with my daughter, I live at this beautiful boat. Your stay will be on the bottom floor, at water level. With a nice view from the kitchen table and two lovely build-in box beds. We have a cozy sitting area in the garden. It is possible to swim next to the houseboat and to feed the swans and ducks. Finally there is a wifi and plenty of games available.

Explore your stay

Our houseboat has a modern design with many round shapes. It has a touch of Eastern influences and also has details of a traditional houseboat. There are two sleeping quarters which are cozy box-beds that can be closed off with little doors, but there is still the possibility to look into the main living space. There are small 'domes' inside the box-beds, which give a very spacious feeling and it becomes extra special when you turn on the lights.

The table with seatings in the main area is elevated as to feel connected with the water around. You can open one of the windows if you like to be closer to the ducks and swans and like to feed them some oats, corn or salad, but no bread since this is not healthy for them.

There is a kitchenette where you can make coffee or tea.

The bathroom is designed in such a way that one can take a shower in privacy while another can still use the sink. In the closet you can find extra blankets and pillows for sitting outside and there are plenty of games you can play with your family and friends. Also, there is WiFi available.

Outside in the garden there is a picknick table. When its sunny it is really nice to sit here to have breakfast or enjoy a glass of wine when the sun is going down and possibly watch the geese fly over.

About the area

NDSM

Close to the houseboat is NDSM. This is an old shipyard of Amsterdam taken over by artists and ever since a creative hot spot where every weekend events are organised.

Next to NDSM is the ferry platform. The ferry on the left will bring you to central station. The ferry on the right will take you to Pontsteiger, close to the most authentic part of Amsterdam: the Jordaan.

Pllek

A very special place next to the IJ with a fantastic view over Amsterdam. The food is excellent and it's good value for money. They have a big outside terrace next to the water and there is always something going on.

Brrood

Next to the ferry with a lovely terrace, this is a nice place for an amazing breakfast where they have fresh baked bread and coffee while you wait for the ferry to arrive.

Amsterdam Lookout

From central station there is a ferry going 24/7 to Buiksloterweg which is next to the 'Amsterdam Lookout Tower'. There is a 360 degrees turning restaurant inside and from the roof you have an amazing view over the whole of Amsterdam. Plus you can take a ride in a mechanic swing, that swings over the edge.

Westergasfabriek

It used to deliver gas to the citizens of Amsterdam, but since 2008 it has been renovated and given a new function. Nowadays it is a place where you can always see or do something. Watch a movie, visit markets of listen to music. Next to the Westergasfabriek is the Westerpark, a nice place to escape the busy city.

Vondelpark

After a visit to the 'Rijksmuseum' and the 'van Gogh museum' there is no better place to relax then the Vondelpark. Especially in the weekend the atmosphere in the park is great and there is a lot going on. There are a number of nice places where you can eat and drink and in the weekends during the summer there are free concerts in the open air theater in the center of the park.

Houseboat owner

Frederike

Ahoy! My name is Frederike, and since September 2024, I have been living with my daughter on this beautiful houseboat. I am a creative entrepreneur and design public spaces with a social function, where artistic expression and practical use go hand in hand.

The houseboat, Seed of Life, features a unique BBB (Bed Boat Bike), where you can stay in complete tranquility while being able to reach the bustling city center by bike in no time. Truly the best of both worlds.

The previous residents, Ed and Karuna, built the boat in 2018-2022. They named her Seed of Life —a name I cherish with love.

    Wonderful Short Stay

We had a wonderful short stay in July 2022. The boat is beautiful and in a quiet area, a short bike ride from the ferries. There is a grocery store close by that we used a couple of times to cook meals in the property. We used the bikes non-stop during our stay. They are adult bikes so a little big for our youngest who is 11, but he soon got used to it. Biking in Amsterdam can also take a bit of getting used to with so many bikers (all knowing what they are doing compared to us) and various road signs to be aware of, but we had a great time riding around. We took a longer ride to Zaanse Schans to see the windmills which was about 45-50 minutes away and our boys loved the freedom of biking in the Dutch countryside, it was beautiful. Ed and Karuna are great hosts. Ed leant us a soccer ball to play with and there is a field with goals close by. Our boys were able to play soccer with some local kids and had a great time. We highly recommend.

    Wonderful experience

Karuna and Ed have done a beautiful, and loving job with their floating house. No detail missed. They are great communicators, and provide everything for a personal and uncomplicated experience. You can get to the redeveloped wharf area (Noord), with trendy restaurants, NDSM cultural center, etc in a 5-10 minute bike ride (they had bikes for us!), which also is where the 2 ferries come to bring you to Central Station or Pontsteiger. Sleeping and hanging outside at the house boat/dock is peaceful, and enjoyable. They even put up some birthday flags for our daughter's celebration. We highly recommend, and would certainly return.

    Spectacular in every way!

It is just perfect. As stated, an easy bike ride (bikes provided) to a free ferry to Central Station. Quiet at night. So much room! Frederike was always available for any help I needed. Yet I never saw them, so if you stay, you will completely have your space. I am already trying to get a friend to split the bill with me so I can go back!

Very friendly owner and super helpful. The houseboat is gorgeous in a quite neighborhood. Close to downtown, the bikes offer a unique experience in Amsterdam.
