Houseboat summary

I welcome you aboard this charming private studio on my houseboat, built in 1907 and docked just 3 minutes walking from Central Station. Lots of interesting places are found around the corner, such as the Red Light District, Dam Square, Nieuwmarkt and the Maritime Museum. Still, our harbor is surprisingly quiet and easy going. No tourist masses, just locals living their happy lives. Be one of them!

Houseboat description

The studio is a wonderful getaway for couples who are looking for a charming, clean and cozy home-away-from-home. There is a comfortable double bed, as well as a lounge corner. The couch can be converted to a bed in case you come with 3 persons. The studio is newly decorated but still has some nice original details, such as the portholes and the wooden 100 year old roof panels.

Furthermore there is a kitchenette with a sink and coffee maker. You won’t miss the cooking facilities because of the many great and affordable restaurants within walking distance of the houseboat. A great place to have your first coffee in the morning is the terrace in front of the boat. Here you can enjoy the scenery around the boat, with the wonderful historic houses on one side and the old harbor on the other side.

Last but not least there is also a bathroom with shower and sink.

Now something about the location. The houseboat is docked in a very nice laid back city centre harbor, close to the Central Station. You will find the Jordaan Area on the West side, and the Waterloo Square and Rembrand Square to the South. All the other parts of town are very easy to reach with public transport, and of course by bike. There is a bike rental just around the corner.

Note that the boat is fully equipped with central heating, so you are assured to be comfortably warm all year round. Your apartment has a private entrance and you don't need to share anything with anyone.

Hope to have given you the best possible impression, but don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions - always glad to help!

Just walk 3 minutes to the East and you will see our harbor right away. Could not be easier.

About the area

Our harbor is one of the oldest in Amsterdam and you can still feel the rich history thanks to the many old ships and the wonderful houses across the street. Although we live pretty much in the middle of town, you will be surprised by the quietness our quay has to offer. The reason it is a dead end where only people who live here come.

The following places are located within a few minutes walking:

* Central Station

* Zeedijk and Red Light District

* Nieuwmarkt (great bars, restaurants and terraces)

* Hannekes Boom (unique bar with amazing outside terrace, great bears and good food)

* Pollux (really laid back bar, right across the street)

* Nemo Science Museum

* Maritime Museum with a replica of the VOC Ship 'Amsterdam'

* Dam Square

    Nice and secure

    Very nice place, close to all amenities, clean and tidy. It needs a booklet on boat ie: pharmacy, local supermarket, local numbers from police to cab. Needs a radio or television.

    Review

    A great location but difficult to find as neither the number or the name given on BookaHouseboat is displayed anywhere.

    Clean and tidy inside. Very stuffy in hot weather with no through ventilation.

    Highly recommended houseboat near the station

    There is basically only one downside to this little love nest, and that is that you will have to leave at one point. We - that is my boyfriend and I - felt at home as soon as we set foot aboard, warmly welcomed by the owner who lives in the same ship. But that will be the only time you aware of this. During your stay you have all the privacy in the world and you will soon feel like a real sailor. The original ceiling,  I believe over a hundred years old, and the porthole give this ship real character. And the location is just astonishing. Only minutes away from the station, yet super quiet at night. We could not believe that this was possible right in the city centre of Amsterdam - what a find, good value for money! Thanks a million and lots of love from Birmingham!
