Houseboat description

Your host Rob is a true 'waterman'. He has worked as a ship constructor for decades and put all his love into the dream that he just realized: building the perfect houseboat and welcome guests from all over the world. Rob lives on a separate part of the very well insulated houseboat, so you have all the privacy you can possibly ask for. The boat has central heating in every room so you are sure to be comfortably warm all year round, even on the coldest winter days.

You can feel the love for detail when you walk through the Floating Castle. It has a all the amenities and convenience of a high-end apartment, with the big difference that you will experience the excitement of staying on the water. Especially because all the rooms on both floors have water view, creating a very light and bright atmosphere. The Queen size beds are really comfortable, ensuring a great night rest.

A truly unique feature is the huge amount of outdoor space that this floating castle has to offer. In the garden you will find a cozy table to have a nice drink or smoke, or enjoy breakfast or diner (why not organize a nice BBQ?!) during the summer time. The sauna is available all year round - especially during the winter it is really awesome to dive into the cold water after a sauna session. Highly recommended!

The location is perfect for guests who want to be away from the tourist masses, yet be close to the city centre. It takes you just a few minutes to get to the Amsterdam Tower (a must-visit), Film Museum Eye (amazing lunch served here, and what a view over the water!) and the free ferry that takes you to Amsterdam Central Station 24/7 for free. On request your host can take you on a guided tour by boat - yes, he is a true captain!

There are 2 free bikes available, on request the host can arrange more bikes for you so you can get around easily from the moment you arrive. And another good thing to know is that you are very close to the wide open fields North of Amsterdam, absolutely great to make a nice bike tour to natural park 'Het Twiske' or Zaanstad with the famous windmills.

About Amsterdam North, where the boat is located. This is may be less known then the inner city, but it is without a doubt the most buzzing part of Amsterdam. It offers a great variety of artistic places such as the NDSM Wharf, Pllek and Tolhuistuin with its countless festivals, markets, concerts and other great activities all year round. Furthermore  you have to visit the Amsterdam Tower (with the exciting swing on the roof - amazing views over the whole city) and lunch at the water side terrace of the Eye Film Museum. Take the free ferry and you are in the city centre within minutes. So we dare to say that we offer the best of both worlds: Amsterdam at its best!

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions - always glad to help. Look forward to welcome you aboard!

    Great Hosts

We highly recommend this boathouse.  If we in a quiet location just a few minutes walk from city center.  The hosts were the best we have had.  The were very accommodating and went above and beyond!

    Quiet and comfortable

Rob was just next door ready to answer any questions. The 2 bedrooms are downstairs with views of the canal. The dinng room/kitchen is complete with everything you need to prepare meals. The view from there is the canal. We would stay with Rob again.

    Compliments to Rob

We were lucky enough to stay with Rob who just renovated this amazing houseboat. We stayed on a houseboat before, but this one was exceptional when it comes to the amount of space it has to offer. Loved the sauna, loved the great beds, loved the bohemian style of this charming boat. Nice and quiet location, close enough to the centre. We'll be back next time we visit Amsterdam.

    TOP!!!

The Floating Castle is an amazing place to stay if you want to get out of the busy city but still want to be near the center. It takes just 2min. with a Ferry from Centraal to the other side of the canal and from there it´s a 10min walk.

The boat itself is really cozy and beautiful built. It has 2 Bedrooms, a really nice bath and a kitchen / living area in the upper part. We were unlucky with the weather so we didn't´t go for a swim but if the sun´s out you definitely can ;)

There´s also some space in front of the boat where you can just chill at the water.

Rob and his wife are really amazing hosts who live in a separate part of the boat. They offered us bikes to cruise around the neighborhood and had very good tips where to go to find some nice places around Amsterdam.

Overall, I highly recommend this place!!

Thanks for everything, we´ll be back!

    The Friendly Floating Castle

This was our first trip to Amsterdam and we spent four nights in the Floating Castle.  The houseboat is on a quiet, peaceful street nestled among gardens in a unique neighborhood.  We enjoyed the spacious hideaway and the bedroom windows open to a nice view of the water. Our host Rob was extremely helpful and charming.  He greeted us with a smile and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay - including cold Heineken in the refrigerator! I highly recommend choosing the Floating Castle for you Amsterdam adventures.
