How to get there

Broek in Waterland can be reached by bus from Amsterdam. From the Kruisweg bus stop it is a five minutes walk to the mooring.

About the area

Broek in Waterland is a village in the municipality of Waterland and is a national heritage site. The village lies just above Amsterdam and in the neighborhood of Monnickendam and Volendam.

One of the oldest buildings in the village is the Sint-Nicolaaskerk that overlooks 't Havenrak. At the Havenrak you'll find one of the most beautiful buildings in Broek, named the Swanenburgh teahouse. This tea house was visited by Napoleon Bonaparte in the beginning of the nineteenth century. The old centre of Broek in Waterland consists mainly of wooden houses, painted in various pastel shades. Many of these houses are decorated with a door calf that is typical for this region.

A perfect houseboat in HollandShow original

Unfortunately, a very nice holiday on a wonderful houseboat came to an end far too quickly. We really enjoyed the two weeks on this houseboat. Whether the environment, the weather or the trips by bike from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, everything was perfect. The ferry was one of our highlights of this houseboat, but sitting outside by the stove or cooling off in the canal was also a great experience. All the people from the neighbors to Herr Hamburger (host) were very nice. We will come back in any case. Greetings from Germany from the Fischer family

    Wonderful Boat

    This Houseboat is just awesome.

Sadly we were just there for a few days, because we enjoyed it so much, we wanted to stay forever.

The location around the boat is just beautiful an you can rest there in an idyllic village outside amsterdam.

When you want to visit the city it's just about 15 minutes with the bus but you are also able to sit outside and forget all of your stress.

A dream by the waterShow original

Not only is the houseboat really great here, but also the location! The big city of Amsterdam in one direction, the beautiful rural expanse in the other! It was a very special family vacation for us!

Fun, family winter break for a family of five

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Heart of Glass. It is often difficult to find enough bedrooms to accommodate our family with three teenagers all wanting their own room, so this was perfect. Despite visiting during storm Denis, the houseboat was very cosy and we looked forward to returning here at the end of the day. The "ferry" to get across the river was great fun and it would be good to return in the summer to be able to row up to Broek in Waterland for the amazing pancakes at the White Swan. Mr Hamburger was extremely helpful throughout and quick to respond when we managed to lock ourselves out! We used the park and ride 'Noord' from where we could use our GVB tickets - its only two stops on the metro to Central Station. The houseboat is really well equipped and beautifully designed - we took a few ideas home with us. We would definitely recommend Heart of Glass and would like to stay here again when we return to Amsterdam one day.

    Most memorable stay!

A home away from home, for 4 nights and during NewYearsEve!! Unforgettably special. Thank you for lending your wonderful houseboat to us and the very sweet hospitality. The whole setting was perfect. The view, the fireworks, the cozy interior, burning wood in the fireplace, cooking food in your awesome kitchen. Comfortable beds and Bath! It was a perfect choice for reuniting with my dearest friends who traveled a long way to arrive at your home. Grateful. Thank You!
