Houseboat summary

Providing you with the best possible houseboat experience and creating everlasting memories is our mission. We do this by showing old-fashioned hospitality, serving a delicious European breakfast and offering free bicycles for you to use during your stay. You have access to the large wheelhouse with a view of our harbor and the apartment in the back of the ship. Although my husband and I live aboard the same ship, you probably won't even notice we're there during your stay. But if you have any questions, we are of course always there for you!

Houseboat description

When you arrive at our wharf you will notice that we are a true houseboat community. A wide variety of ships are docked here, and one of them will be your floating home. From the jetty you board our ship, a former seaworthy ship built in Hamburg to build the Baltic Sea and which now serves as our floating home and bed and breakfast.

We personally welcome you on board and share useful information and answer all your questions. Time to discover the ship, starting with the wheelhouse, furnished with vintage furniture and a super cool captain's chair. Hard to resist not to sit here and feel what it's like to be a true captain!

Now we descend via the stairs (which are steep, so not suitable for everyone) to the apartment. Here you will find on your right hand gates. In the front of the ship is a single bed in case you are traveling with three or want to sleep separately. The bathroom is very ship-like: small but handy, with sink, shower and toilet.

There is a compact kitchenette with a sink, refrigerator, kettle and coffee maker. Breakfast with croissants, cold cuts, cheese, jam, yogurt and fresh orange juice is included in the price and served to your front door every morning. Please note that we do not provide cooking facilities, but who really has the desire to cook when there are so many great restaurants and bars nearby? You just walk onto the quay and within a few minutes walk you will find various delicious food and beverage outlets.

You have good access to the city, which makes our location attractive to receive good and quiet guests, a good habit of the city center. You can reach the old town within 10 to 15 minutes by bike and the connections to public transport are also excellent. The old town part is about 15 minutes away and the part about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on where you want to be.

Our neighborhood has that little bit more, we feel that every day: wide views over the water, no tourist crowds and a real sense of connection with other people who live here. And last but not least I want to say that our waters are just perfect for swimming during the summers. It's certainly clean and fresh, so don't forget to bring your swimsuit when you honor us with your visit!

I hope to have given you the best possible impression, but don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions - always happy to help!

PS maybe needless to say but smoking any kind of drugs from parties on board is not allowed. We have a good relationship with our neighbors and we want to keep it that way. Thanks for understanding!

    So nice and friendly!!

We enjoyed the 4 days on the Alhena so much. Coriene and Casper were very friendly to us, we had a lot of interesting talks together! The 'fietsen' are genius, and the 'appartement' on the boat is so nice and charming. And the breakfast...mmmh! Thank you very much and tot ziens!! Christoph & Valentin

Luxury afloat in a tranquil Amsterdam canal

Corine is the consummate hostess; from a helpful check-in, assist with parking (10m away), perfectly appointed wheel-house and stateroom, bikes for exploring and a wonderful Dutch breakfast each morning! These lifetime adventurers reflect the best in traveler accommodation providers. Ask them about the 'round the world bike-trip'... great stories to be had. The vessel is perfectly set-up for access to local attractions of sitting-around sipping a nice Blanc... watch the world sail by... magic! 10 / 10 Wonderful experience for this experienced traveler: 52 countries so-far... one of my best decisions! Totally recommend this! 'Just Do it!'

    Little Gem on the water

We loved the location of the houseboat, it is a bit away from the most touristy area (just 10 minutes bike ride) and offers a unique experience of more local taste of life on a barge in Amsterdam. The boat is very clean and comfortable. Our first night we watched the full moon rise over the water at sunset, what a treat! Coriene and her partner are excellent hosts, they even adapted their breakfast to our preferences as they thoughtfully decrypted our eating habits after a few days. Coriene took the time to show us routes to bike in the countryside just a ferry ride away. Our favorite thing to do was to discover the city biking, and the two bicycles provided are well maintained and comfortable. We hope to return!
