Welcome to your stay

Central but tranquil, private and light home in the stern of the former cruise ship Sachsen-Anhalt. On this houseboat you'll have a living room with sofa sleeper and a separated bed studio. Plus a galley, bathroom with bathtub and a roofed terrace with fire place overlooking the pier.

Explore your stay

Welcome aboard! We have a special apartment on our former passenger vessel available. Our newly redone interior is Dutch design and will show you the quirky yet functional culture of the Netherlands. Imagine yourself at the table overlooking the bridge through our large windows (unique for a houseboat!), having breakfast at your private roofed terrace, making plans to eat out at one of the nearby restaurants or going for an architecture walk in the neighbourhood or even a swim in the water that surrounds you!

We will be in the front part of the boat, like neighbours. Just let us know if you want some inside info on the Docklands or a secret design or restaurant tip.

Here in the Eastern Docklands you'll find a combination of space and cosy atmosphere. The area was laid out at a scale for the enormous ships traveling to the Dutch East Indies, so you'll feel the most space possible in Amsterdam. Since the docklands were rebuilt as a housing area there's a café in both directions on the south facing quay within 200 meters, next to a bakery, some restaurants, interior- and bookshops, supermarkets and a park. You could stay the day for a trip through the old harbours and modern architecture.

Public transport is available within 100m from the ship. Tram 7 will take you to Leidseplein in 15 minutes, bus 43 will take you to Central Station in 10 minutes. Or try a bike?

Party: If hanging out with your friends on our ship, alcohol and/or soft drugs are your main reason to visit, we advise you to book another house. On our pier you live in between children and our neighbours are sleeping right next to you.

WiFi: We have fast wireless internet

Smoking: Smoking is allowed on the roofed terrace

Parking: Spots are available but pricy. We have a cheap solution if you need to park for a day or more. You will not need a car when visiting Amsterdam.

Sustainable energy: We make all the energy we use ourselves. A heat pump harvests energy from the outdoor temperature and warms the ship and your shower. Solar panels provide electricity. We do not use any gas or other fossil fuel / carbon based energy sources.

Boatlife: Yes you are on a boat. In windy situations you will feel some movement. Most people find this pleasurable.

Boatlife 2: Our waste disposal to the sewage system cannot take wet wipes or anything else than toilet paper.

Amenities: Your bed is made, towels are fresh. We have a blow dryer, iron, shampoo and a toothbrush if you might have forgotten them. The kitchenette has drinking water, fridge, dishwasher and basics like coffee, tea, an egg cooker and milk foamer ready for you to use. You only need to bring your personal belongings.

How to get there

From Schiphol Airport you'll need 20 minutes by taxi, or 45 minutes by train via Central Station and tram or bus to arrive at the Sachsen-Anhalt. From Central station it's a 10 minute bus ride that stops 100 meters away from our ship.

Hello traveller,

I am a freelancer writing about the newest and finest in architecture and design and jury member of the Dutch Design Awards. My husband Renze is a pilot, although his heart goes out to a his former job, navigating the seas. Most charming houseboat in a great area

The Eastern Docks may not be known to the large tourist masses, and that is a great thing. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the great houseboat of Ingeborg, and highly appreciate the effort she has put in her houseboat. You will feel at home as soon as you get aboard - at least that is what we did.

About the surroundings: you have great wide views, some really interesting restaurants and architecture and good public transport connections. Highly recommended house boat!

Perfect place to stay in Amsterdam

The apartment on the boat was bright and comfortable, with every amenity provided. The owners are lovely, interesting people. Having the tram stop steps from our dock made it so easy to get anywhere! And there is a bakery and 2 good restaurants/bars so if you don’t feel like going anywhere first or last thing, you can have a pleasant meal or snack. We highly recommend a houseboat stay in Amsterdam; no better place to try out houseboat living.

    supercool location

We just spent 4 nights on this cool boat. It's very clean, stylish and fully equipped at the same time. For 3 persons there's plenty of space, even a 4th person would fit well. The hosts Ingeborg and Renze took good care of us, they live in the front side of the boat. We really liked the Eastern docklands where the boat is located, very hip area and not so crowded - but only good 10 minutes from downtown by tram. We will come back soon, but at warmer times so that we can use the nice terrace.

    Fantastic stay

We had a great time in this fantastic boat. The location was ideal - nice and quiet yet in easy reach of all the usual tourist spots by tram or bus. The boat itself was amazing - huge living area, really nicely furnished with a great kitchen and bathroom. Lots of homely features such as board games, CD/LP collection and a lovely sitting area at the back of the boat with wood burner and limitless fuel. Ingeborg was a great host - informative, there when we wanted her but but not in our faces otherwise. A great place to stay.
