Houseboat summary

A houseboat experience in the city center of Amsterdam, with boats, swans and ducks swimming by. A private apartment with roof terrace overlooking the oldest harbor in the city. Right in the city centre, a few minutes walking from Central Station, yet away from the tourist masses. Yes, you have just found the perfect place to stay for your next visit to Amsterdam!

Houseboat description

We are so lucky to live on a traditional Dutch cargo ship, built in 1911. A real grand steel lady that used to transport goods all through Europe and now found her final destination in the oldest harbor of Amsterdam. The ship is completely renovated and we have made a separate apartment aboard to host you as our appreciated guest.

We are docked on the outer side of a row of houseboats that are docked along each other. This means that you have to walk over other boats to reach your place, Amsterdam style.

The good news is that you have the most wonderful view over the water: on your far left you see the majestic Central Station, in front of you the iconic floating Chinese restaurant and amazing new architecture and on your right you see the magnificent Nemo Science Museum and the Maritime Museum. And while enjoying this view, swans, ducks and many boats will pass by. We personally think it's the best view in town - especially from the wheelhouse, that is the entrance to your apartment.

From the wheelhouse you descent to the apartment, with lots of nautical elements still preserved. The bathroom for example has to be entered through the original steel waterproof door. Also we have some nice portholes in the living room. You will be sleeping under the wheelhouse, with the chain of the steering wheel still visible above you: unique, cozy and secluded.

The many large windows let in lots of daylight and give you a perfect view over the harbor.

During your stay you can prepare a meal in your kitchen, fully equipped for your convenience. We offer a 5-stove burner, water cooker, coffee maker, microwave and fridge.

And last but not least you have access to the roof terrace. No better place to sit back and relax, making new plans for the day and experience what it's like to be a local houseboat owner!

The location is super central. From Central Station it's only a few minutes walking before you reach our harbor. This is a surprisingly quiet and relaxed area compared to the buzzing red light district, Waterloo Square and Dam Square that are just around the corner. So wherever you want to go: it's easy to get there and when getting back you are assured to find a safe haven.

Please let us know if you are arriving before or departing after the regular check-in and check-out time. In this case we will see how we can help you with this.

Look forward to welcome you aboard!

How to get there

It's only a 5-minute walk from Central Station to this houseboat. How easy can it be? Arriving by plane? Then it's only a 14 minute train ride from Schiphol Airport to the Central Station and a nice walk to the boat!

About the area

Our harbor is found right next to the Central Station and the buzzing Noordermarkt and the red light district. However, you will be surprised by the tranquility that our little safe haven has to offer. And for a good reason: we as houseboat owners really look after each other and the neighborhood. We love you to be part of our community, even if it's only for a few days.

    Great location

What a fabulous little boat spot. We were a little worried before arrival about the walking across other boats and the bed size. But we needn't have worried as it's a perfectly easy walk over, and the bed was really spacious. Quirky and cosy! Will absolutely only stay here when I go Amsterdam next.

The boat is beautiful and we enjoyed every minute on the boat!! It was very central and only a few minutes walk from the train station. Stijn was very friendly and welcome. We loved to be his guests! We would love to come again. Thank you for this experience.

What a great stay we had. The boat was super easy to find and Stijn welcomed us very nicely. He even prepared beer and some snacks! Boat was in perfect condition and exactly how it looked on the pictures. Location is right at the main train station and everything you need is in walking distance. We would definitely go there again!:)

    Little Nelly - fantastic!

You can't get a more central (yet surprisingly peaceful!) location than this with incredible views over the IJ harbour. Stijn is communicative and helpful, and has styled his houseboat with great practical ingenuity - the experience was such an eye-opener to this way of life :) Some tips: parking only seems to be available in expensive parking spots - we'll arrive by train next time. And avoid bringing big suitcases - they're quite tricky to carry through the maze of houseboats.

    All this and sunshine too!

Loved the boat, Stijn! And loved your city too!

Thanks so much for your warm welcome, helpful hints about what to visit, and the complimentary beer and wine in the fridge! Cozy living space, great views from the comfy wheelhouse, instant hot water, and the quirkiest bathroom in Amsterdam!

Three really great days under a cloudless blue sky and brilliant sunshine - what could be better!
