Houseboat summary

Until June 1, our houseboat for 4 persons can be rented at cost for healthcare staff and other professionals who help to fight the Corona crisis.  If there is a budget to declare overnight stays, I would like to charge a modest rate of 30 euros / night. If not, you can stay at cost (cleaning costs).

Houseboat description

We had one chance to build our dream boat. And we did. We hope you like the result, and perhaps we'll be so fortunate to welcome you aboard during our holiday and share the fun of living on our concrete Warship from 1943. With two double beds, a child bed and a cot, this is the perfect family houseboat, also for couples traveling together. Please note this is not a party boat - so no drugs or smoking allowed on board.

We recently completely renovated this WWII concrete warship and turned it into our dream boat. The 6,6 meters wide sliding doors gives an amazing view over the water, the terrace is a playground for young and old during summer and the floor heating is very comfortable in the colder season. Not to mention the brilliant Bullerjan stove, huge bath, double shower, massive curved Samsung TV, BBQ and fully equipped kitchen.

How to get there

The houseboat is easy to reach from both Amsterdam Amstel (15 minutes from Schiphol Airport) and Amsterdam Central Station (20 minutes from Schiphol Airport). Just take a tram or bus and you will be at the boat within 15 minutes. A Park & Ride parking lot is located at just 5 minutes driving away.

About the area

The Eastern Docks are the best kept secret of Amsterdam: close to the centre, but away from the noisy masses. And we have great architecture. Very kids-friendly with lots of play grounds within walking distance.

Would stay here again for sure - what a houseboat!

You have to experience it, to believe it. The boat, the terrace, the view, the amenities. Just amazing. From what I understand the boat is available just a few times a year, when the owners are on holiday, so you have to be a bit lucky when it comes to availability. Fingers crossed!

Calm & cosy at the canal

It was wonderful staying at this fantastic houseboat. The living room area with open kitchen is flooded with light coming from the large windows with a deck overlooking the canal. If you stay on the boat you'll have sun the whole day. You can tell that is has been renovated only recently, everything is modern and furnished with a lot of love and a taste for design. We enjoyed staying there as a family of four very much, it felt more like staying at a friends home than a rental place.

The location of the boat is great as it is a residential area, which makes for quiet nights. Amsterdam downtown is a short distance easily manageable by bike (with a bike rental in close walking distance). Same goes for supermarkets and a few restaurants.

Communication with Juul was smooth and easy, the whole logistics went well. A full five star recommendation!

    Great location, boat and atmosphere!

We had the best of times in this spacious gem! I can highly recommend staying there. Great location not far from the city center, but off the beaten track so a lot of peace and quiet for after the hussle and bussle of the center. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our kid also loved all the toys available! Fun times!

Thanks for a lovely time at your houseboat!

Juul and his family were wonderful hosts, they gave us a brief tour of their lovely houseboat and also gave us plenty of recommendations on things to do in their area of town. The houseboat was well appointed with all the necessities, clean, and was available as expected. Thanks for a lovely time, Juul!

    Highlight of the Trip!

Big thanks to our host, Juul, for helping us have an excellent holiday in Amsterdam. We travelled from Canada as a group of 4 and had no problem getting to the boat and oriented. The houseboat itself is chic and very large. It was well equipped for a group our size: spacious bedrooms & bathrooms downstairs and a wide open communal space with a formidable kitchen upstairs. The neighborhood is beautiful, family friendly and close to great restaurants and shops. We visited in Summer and the patio was a wonderfully relaxing place to hang out during nicer weather. Downtown adventures like Leidseplein Square and Amsterdam Centraal are close by and just a short ride on public transit. Can't get closer to paradise than this! I hope to return some lucky day.

    Awesome industrial design

We had the privilige to stay at this wonderful and impressive houseboat in Amsterdam, the Eastern Docks. As architecture lovers we loved the awesome industrial design and the combination of the rugged concrete structure of this world war II ship and the new amenities - mostly custom built. The area is nice and quiet and the bikes take you to the city centre in 10 - 20 minutes depending where you want to go. Loved to stay here during the holiday of the owners, it's a shame that it's not available more often!

Fantastic base for a great family holiday

We had a great holiday-peace and quiet on ‘our’ house boat but with very easy access to the vibrant sights in central Amsterdam.

Lots of places to eat nearby and shops to buy food to cook in ‘our’ well equipped kitchen.

Loved the airiness of the huge open plan living area, with the floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the water.

    Nothing negative to report!

    Amazing houseboat for families

We have been so fortunate to stay on this awesome houseboat while the owners were away. The design is truly amazing and its history is astonishing: this used to be a transport vessel during WWII. You can still see the steel pipes used to pump diesel in and out of the ship. The bedrooms are located on the lower floor and they are perfect for families. One large master bedroom and two bedrooms for the kids. Amsterdam East is a well kept secret: nice and quiet yet close to public transport that brings you into town in about 10 minutes. And not to mention the super nice floor heating and superb wood stove 'Bullerjan' that makes your stay just unforgettable. The amenities are just top notch - fantastic value for money!
