Welcome to your stay

The Spera II is an elegant lady, built as a cement transportation ship in 1954 and now the home of your loving hosts. They have created a charming apartment behind the wheelhouse, designed to give you the best time possible. The location is quite unique: although you can reach the city centre in about 12 minutes, you will be amazed by the tranquility and the wide views all around you. Suitable for 2 to 4 guests.

Explore your stay

The houseboat apartment offers surprisingly much space, around 35 sqm in total. The owner lives in the front of the ship, but you are ensured to have all the privacy you can possibly ask for since you have a private entrance.

Via the entrance in the wheelhouse (shared space) you enter the former captains' house. This area is formed in the shape of the boat and the hight is limited to 190 cm (consider this when you are tall). In the captains' house you will find the living room  with a tv and small stereo set, a sofa bed (120 x 200 cm) and the open kitchen. The fully equiped kitchen is designed for your convenience and offers a dishwasher, stove and a microwave-oven combination.

Continue and you enter the bedroom with a double bed (130 x 200 cm) and the second bedroom with a double bed (130 x 200 cm).

In the bathroom you will find a small bath (quite exceptional on a houseboat) and a shower. All the water is heated by a modern heater so the whole family can shower without hot water running out.

The whole boat has good free wifi connection.

An absolute highlight is the great sundeck on top of the ridge, a great place to watch the ships go by en enjoy the panoramic views over the water. And last but not least: know that the ship is located in one of the most famous parts of Amsterdam when it comes to architecture. These former dockes were used to dock steam ships in the 19th century. Nowadays the steam ships and the docks have disappeard, but the nautical atmosphere s still there. Just like the many references to these long-gone days in the great bars and restaurants you will find here. And many great new buildings attract architecturalists from all all over the world.

Bus 43 takes you into the city centre in about 10 minutes.

And one more thing for those who like to swim: know that this area offers great, fresh water during the summer. Just 100 meters away is a large jetty where you can swim safely and enjoy the sun.

    What an amazing place

The boat was very nice in a quite place, not so far from downtown. 10 minutes by bus number 48. 12 minutes by bikes.

We loved to drink beers and eat good ribs at the pub Ocean.

Unfortunately, we didn't swim but we hope to do it next time.

    Thank you Ira.

    Nice houseboat studio

Spera II is in a quiet location away from the busy city centre. We were not disturbed at all during the night. Getting into town and back is easy because the bus runs from Centraal to a stop 4 mins walk from the boat. You can also borrow bikes from the owner. It's 35 mins if you walk. The accommodation is basically one room with two small berths (one a double, one a single). If there are 4 of you then you'll need to use the sofa bed which is not very comfortable. Be aware that the room is much smaller than it looks in the photos which is a bit disappointing when you see the huge length of the boat. The owners live in the rest of the boat although we did not meet them during our stay. You are basically renting the old crew cabin behind the wheelhouse so it is quite small. TV and wifi good. Very clean and tidy. Nothing in fridge so bring milk etc when you arrive. Overall, a good choice if you want a houseboat away from the busy centre of Amsterdam.

Very nice stay on the channel

We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed it very much. Ira is a very nice host, who gave us good advice about the places to visit. The boat was very comfortable for 4 people. There is everything for cooking, so we enjoyed our breakfasts in the living room.  Beds are comfortable, the bathroom is very neat and clean. The neighborhood is very nice and it's quite convenient to go to the center by bus which is nearby and goes every 15 minutes.  I highly recommend this houseboat for your stay, it's a very different experience from living in the hotel.

    Quiet family-friendly neighbourhood.

We rented Spera II for 6 nights for our family of two parents and two teenage boys. It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but only because we had one boy in the living room, and teenagers take up quite a bit of space.

The apartment is well appointed and cozy, it's a great quiet retreat from Amsterdam, which is a very busy city. It's a short bus ride from two excellent museums, the science museum and the shipping museum. As well as a short trip away from Dapperstraat which has the Zoo, the Dapperstraat market and the Museum of the Resistance. We loved staying there and appreciated that it was a charming family friendly neighborhood.

Thanks so much to Ira for hosting such a great B&B.
