Houseboat summary

My name is Eliane and I love to welcome you aboard our pride and joy: The The Jordaan Wheelhouse - 2 BR - Sleeps 4 Wheelhouse. This is a two bedroom apartment on the historic freight ship. From the wheelhouse you have a panoramic view over the wonderful canals of Amsterdam.

Houseboat description

The bnb is normally located in the heart of the Jordaan. From 2022 to a great part of 2024, the houseboat will be located just behind Rembrandtplein. There is no better place in the canals of Amsterdam! In the wheelhouse you have a living space with a panoramic view over the Amstel, Breathtaking. Downstairs there are two bedrooms with queen size beds, a separate shower and toilet. On the terrace behind the wheelhouse you have a nice lounge terrace and table to sit outside while enjoying the city life!

The ship is docked in the Jordaan, next to the corner of the famous Prinsengracht. This is right in the centre with countless charming bars, restaurants and boutique shops within a stone's throw distance.

But first let's take a look at the houseboat apartment that you may call your floating home in Amsterdam for a while. The big wheelhouse - with the original wheel still there - is without a doubt a unique and super cozy place to sit back and relax, while the buzzing city life passes by. Have a first cup of coffee and watch the swans, ducks and geese pass by. There are two tables, two chairs and a lounge sofa for ultimate relaxation. In the wheelhouse you have access to a small fridge, coffee maker, cooker and a micro-wave oven. Note that we don't have a kitchen, but who would seriously consider cooking when you have such an abundance of restaurants around?

In the hull of the ship we offer two charming bedrooms, each with a high-quality double bed. This makes the boat perfect for small families and couples traveling together. Each bedroom has a personal character and is shaped in a unique and charming way, with several nautical elements such as the traditional portholes.

The tastefully decorated bathroom, with shower, sink and toilet, is conveniently situated between the two bedrooms.

Last but not least: know that the whole boat is well insulated (recently renovated) and has comfortable central heating. This way you are ensured to be nice and warm, even on the coldest winter nights.

I hope to have given you the best possible impression of our houseboat apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, but don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions - always glad to help!

Eliane

My name is Eliane . I am an enthusiastic and social woman who is eager to learn and always looking for a new challenge. When I was 18 years old, I went to live on this beautiful houseboat. And I started this bed and breakfast where you are now.
I have studied ‘Hotel and event management' at the TIO University in Amsterdam. The study fits exactly with the running of this bed and breakfast. And I do the study with a lot of fun. I do this bed and breakfast next to my study and I do it with pleasure. I hope that I can show you the way in Amsterdam.

Quirky way to stay in Amsterdam

The Jordaan Wheelhouse was almost what we expected. We wanted a quirky experience, which is exactly what we had. It was clean, comfortable and basic. It was just a shame that the electrics in one of the bedrooms didn’t work. The owner was quick to come and check on it for us, but was unable to fix it. Perhaps these could have been checked before we arrived. If you are staying with friends make sure you are all very good friends. The shower and sink are right next to one of the bedrooms, which is just a large stained glass window panel. Even though you can’t see right into the bedroom or out, it is not hard to tell if people are dressed or not. This did making showering, or cleaning teeth awkward when trying to get changed in the bedroom, lol. The biggest let down was the unexplainable build up of condensation on the lip of the wall over the bed. Even though we opened the porthole to try and alleviate this, after the first night of water dripping on our heads, we were unable to stop it. So we either had to run the risk of water dripping on our heads/pillows or sleep the other way and bang our heads on the tv hanging on the other side. We have definitely come home with some stories to tell, but we won’t be staying on a houseboat again.

    Great stay in the Jordaan

We'll miss being on this wonderful houseboat, watching the birds swim by and living right in the centre of the lively Jordaan area. The exceptional good February weather gave a silver lining to our stay on this floating apartment. The wheelhouse is a real cool place to be and watch the city life go by while you feel like a true local. The beds are comfortable and in the wheelhouse you can sit back and relax with a drink at hand. At least, if you decide not to frequent the bar Thyssen right across the street - a super nice place with a great sunny terrace. And we we had the best lamb ever in an Italian restaurant called Il Fiore, also within 1 minute walking. The place is not huge, but offers great comfort and a unique Amsterdam houseboat experience. Thanks Eliane for having us. We hope to be back one day!
