Welcome to your stay

Welcome aboard The Jordaan Wheelhouse. This is a two bedroom apartment on a historic freight ship. From the wheelhouse you have a panoramic view over the wonderful canals of Amsterdam.

Explore your stay

The B&B is located in the heart of the Jordaan, at the corner of the Prinsengracht. The Jordaan is a very nice neighbourhood in the city centre close to the Anne Frank House, the famous Nine Streets and approximately a 10/15 minutes walk from Amsterdam Central Station. Close to metro, bus and trams. In the Jordaan you will find a lot of charming restaurants, boutique shops and markets.

But first let's take a look at the houseboat apartment that you may call your floating home in Amsterdam for a while. The big wheelhouse - with the original wheel still there - is without a doubt a unique and super cozy place to sit back and relax, while the buzzing city life passes by. Have a first cup of coffee and watch the swans, ducks and geese pass by. There are two tables, two chairs and a lounge sofa for ultimate relaxation. In the wheelhouse you have access to a small fridge, coffee maker, cooker and a micro-wave. Note that we don't have a kitchen, but who would seriously consider cooking when you have such an abundance of restaurants around?

In the hull of the ship we offer two charming bedrooms, each with a high-quality double bed. This makes the boat perfect for small families and couples traveling together. Each bedroom has a personal character and is shaped in a unique and charming way, with several nautical elements such as the traditional portholes.

The tastefully decorated bathroom, with shower, sink and separate toilet, is conveniently situated between the two bedrooms.

Last but not least: know that the whole boat is well insulated and has comfortable central heating. This way you are ensured to be nice and warm, even on the coldest winter nights.

Please be aware that this is a boat, so the stairs will be quite steep.

I hope to have given you the best possible impression of our houseboat apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, but don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions - always glad to help!

Eliane

My name is Eliane . I am an enthusiastic and social woman who is eager to learn and always looking for a new challenge. When I was 18 years old, I went to live on this beautiful houseboat. And I started this bed and breakfast where you are now.
I have studied ‘Hotel and event management' at the TIO University in Amsterdam. The study fits exactly with the running of this bed and breakfast. And I do the study with a lot of fun. I do this bed and breakfast next to my study and I do it with pleasure. I hope that I can show you the way in Amsterdam.

    A very nice experienceShow original

We had a wonderful stay in Amsterdam as a family (2 adults, 2 children) and the accommodation on the boat greatly contributed to this. Ideally located for visiting the city center on foot. Happy in the morning to have breakfast on board in the sun and end of the day to find our "little nest". We did not see Eliane but she was very responsive to all our questions via Whatsapp. We had a small heating problem (which could not be resolved during our stay) but nothing to affect our pleasure on the boat.

    Great stay in AmsterdamShow original

We had a great time in Amsterdam and on the houseboat. The best thing was the location of the boat. In the middle of the city. We didn't need a TV, which was available in both bedrooms, but instead sat on the boat's small deck every evening and watched the boat traffic, the duck and swan families and the sunset. It was wonderful. The bedrooms were small, but the beds were large and we slept wonderfully. We missed that there were no hooks for the towels. Not even for our jackets. Furthermore, there was no way to unpack our suitcases as there was no space for our clothes. There were no shelves or other storage space, not even for toothbrushes and cosmetics. There was a shower that worked well but only one sink for all needs including washing up. There was no kitchen, only a coffee maker, a kettle and a small fridge. But there are plenty of restaurants nearby. There was a large bath sheet per person for a whole week, no other towel. That was pretty little. Of crockery there were 4 plates, 4 coffee mugs, 4 small bowls, cutlery for 4 people and a few glasses. We had to wash dishes all the time. Despite everything, it was a really nice vacation. The price of this boat can only be justified by the great location, not the boat itself.

Quirky way to stay in Amsterdam

The Jordaan Wheelhouse was almost what we expected. We wanted a quirky experience, which is exactly what we had. It was clean, comfortable and basic. It was just a shame that the electrics in one of the bedrooms didn’t work. The owner was quick to come and check on it for us, but was unable to fix it. Perhaps these could have been checked before we arrived. If you are staying with friends make sure you are all very good friends. The shower and sink are right next to one of the bedrooms, which is just a large stained glass window panel. Even though you can’t see right into the bedroom or out, it is not hard to tell if people are dressed or not. This did making showering, or cleaning teeth awkward when trying to get changed in the bedroom, lol. The biggest let down was the unexplainable build up of condensation on the lip of the wall over the bed. Even though we opened the porthole to try and alleviate this, after the first night of water dripping on our heads, we were unable to stop it. So we either had to run the risk of water dripping on our heads/pillows or sleep the other way and bang our heads on the tv hanging on the other side. We have definitely come home with some stories to tell, but we won’t be staying on a houseboat again.

Good location / however porthole leaked onto bed - kept awake for two nights - uncomfortable lounge for 4 adults to relax / lack of privacy when showering / had to cross over first boat not easy for senior people & travel bags.

    Such a great experience!

We had such a lovely time staying at the Jordaan Wheelhouse. Everything was as described on the boat, and the accommodations were very nice. The best thing about this houseboat was the location. It was a great neighborhood to explore, with lots of great restaurants, cafés, and shops, and even a farmer’s market right next to the boat on the day we arrived. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching all the boats go by every evening, and waking up to the various bird calls in the morning. We never met our host, but she always responded quickly in advance of our trip, and we lacked for nothing while we were there! Would highly recommend!
