Houseboat description

This retired cargo ship has been completely converted into a luxurious place of peace and tranquility.

Because we want to share living on the water with others, we set up 2 rooms with all possible utilities.

We ourselves live in the original hold. Guests can stay in the original captain's room or sailor's room. Each guest room has its own toilet, shower, sitting area and bedroom.

In the summer months it is lovely to relax on the private terrace. Each room is a separate unit with its own entrance.

There is no need to fear seasickness, the water hardly moves, the shore is nearby and our life jackets are always at the ready! To reach our ship you have to cross a footbridge, after which the adventure continues along the gangway. This is a narrow walkway along the side of the ship. It is well lit and very safe, but unfortunately not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Ever been awakened by quacking ducks and other aquatic animals... watched in amazement as herons and swans bread given... and all this in the middle of the city?

Does all this appeal to you? Feel free to embark on a wonderfully relaxing stay aboard!

How to get there

By Car: we are easily reached by car, and have a private (free) parking spot just in front of the boat waiting for you. Gent has a low emission zone so older diesels, beware!

You will receive our address after booking.

By Public Transport: a lot of trains stop at Gent-St-Pieters trainstation. There you can take Tram 4 to the stop 'Brugse Poort'. The boat is a 2 minute walk away from that stop!

By Boat: Yes, if you visit Gent by boat, you can moor right next to us! We are on the 'Brugse Vaart'.

About the area

Our boat is moored as close to the city center as you can get ;-). We are a 10 minute walk from the very city center. It's no use to even try to take a car, given the many pedestrian zones of the Ghent inner city.

That means we are in a quit neighborhood, nothing really fancy just around us, but close enough to the lively, cultural and commercial heart of the city.

Ghent is also a good location to visit other cities around: Antwerp: 70km, Bruges: 45km, Brussels: 70km, Beach (Knokke, Oostende, ..) : 60km.

I live and work (as a business coach) on this boat myself, in the converted cargo space.
My 4 children grew up here, but are living on their own by now.

    Neat original space Show original

After a warm welcome we spent one night in the captain's cabin, a neat original space, neat and clean. The boat is quietly located within walking distance of the center of Ghent. An attractive location!

    Unique, charming stay Show original

Unique, charming residence within walking distance of the center of Ghent. Maarten was very easily contactable in advance and on arrival. We enjoyed our stay in the boat. During corona times also very easy that there is a fridge to keep aperitif fresh. Just pay attention to get into the room safely, not really recommended for older / less mobile people.

    Beautiful stay

Lovely stay in a very roomy unit, the Captains quarters! Everything we needed plus a full basket of breakfast goodies delivered every morning to our front door! Weather was a bit chilly but we were still able to sit out on the water to have our evening wine watching the ducks go by. Maarten was away on vacation but his son Jules took care of everything and was even nice enough to drive us to the train station. Was a bit leery at first but within walking distance to the beautiful town and all the restaurants and canal rides. A great stay!

Great base for our stay in Ghent

We loved the boat and Captain's Cabin; it was great that a fan was provided to make the hot nights bearable! And we came in just three days to feel that our walk back from town or to and from the bus/tram was our home territory. Our only criticism was that the place does feel as though it could do with a really deep clean and spruce up. Not quite as sleek and shiny as it looks in the pictures!
