Houseboat summary

Welcome to our houseboat home! We aim to provide everything to make your stay original, cosy and relaxing. This is a comfortable and surprisingly peaceful retreat in the greenery of the waterway, hidden in central London with easy access to the city's lively neighbourhoods.

You have the independent use of the houseboat as well as outside seating in the garden above the canal which, weather permitting, includes an inflatable hot-tub, BBQ, hammock and a little rowboat. We offer complete privacy with a locked gatehouse and no public access to the mooring: it's an oasis of nature, luminosity and calm in a secluded setting on Regent's Canal, right in the heart of the city.

With shops, restaurants and local transport close by at Kings Cross and Islington, this fully-equipped widebeam houseboat has everything you'll need to discover life on the water and enjoy an original stay in London!

Houseboat description

The main entrance to the houseboat is via our wheelhouse at the stern. The wheelhouse is a great place to have breakfast or an evening drink and watch the sunset over the canal. There is also a small single couch for relaxing perched under the cabin roof.

The wheelhouse gives access down to the main living space with sofas, dining table and chairs, and well-equipped kitchen, as well as a small bathroom. The Ligne Roset sofa opens into a comfortable sofa-bed (160 cms wide). There is also a coffee table, chaise longue and TV.

The Cosy Cabin area at the front (bow) is a little self-contained cabin comprising a small living room with folding table, chairs, TV, single sofa-bed and, separated by a large cupboard, a double berth and small washbasin. This berth (140cms wide by 195cms long) is fitted wall to wall and has a foot-well. There is also a small outside deck sitting area.

The bow and stern of the boat are linked by a corridor where there is a full-size fridge and microwave, and another bathroom.

Please note there are 25 wide steps down to the mooring and 3 steps on board.

Wake up in the morning to views of the trees, birds and water! Watch occasional passing boats on the canal. Take a short walk along the canal towpath to Granary Square with its restaurants, pubs and shops, Victorian architecture and beautiful new gardens and squares. Further along the canal you reach Camden Market, with its fashion and counter-culture curiosities. And further still there’s Little Venice and Regent's Park (and even London zoo - about 2 miles!). Alternatively there’s nearby Chapel Market and Islington shopping centre.

The location is safe. There is an abundance of railway, underground and bus connections in the area. King's Cross station (10-15 mins walk) has train and underground connections throughout London, airports and Eurostar. Angel station in Islington is also a useful transport hub. There are several bus stops nearby giving access to many tourist venues, West End, Covent Garden, City, Southbank and elsewhere.

Living in a houseboat home is not like staying in a conventional hotel, and we will expand on some of the boat's appliances. Often people expect it to be cold and damp, but our home is dry and warm. The houseboat is secure and does not sway in the water. Children of course love the novelty and excitement of a different environment.

Regent's Canal towpath opposite is a public footpath. On the towpath you will see fishermen, strollers, cyclist commuters and runners. In good weather, local people will sometimes come to sit by the water with their families and friends during the day and the evening. There is no access to our mooring. Here you will see ducks, geese, coots, squirrels and even the occasional fox! It is all part of the life of the canal. We hope you will enjoy living on the water!

Water on the boat is stored in tanks under the flooring and is perfectly good to drink from all the taps. When taps are turned on the water is brought up by a supply pump which creates a noise at the tap - this should not be cause for concern. Both bathrooms are fitted with a washbasin, a small bath with shower, and a chemical toilet.

About the area

This is arguably the best neighbourhood to stay in London for families, business travellers, culture lovers and just those who want to enjoy London, as it truly does have something for everyone.

From Harry Potter’s Platform 9¾ at Kings Cross station to Kings Place with temporary expos, music evenings and a bar/restaurant looking over the canal, the fascinating London Canal Museum, the iconic ‘Words on the Water’ floating bookshop, the Wellcome Collection and the British Library, families and visitors have a lot to see. Kings Cross is also a foodie hotspot with something to suit everyone's taste around Granary Square and the new Coal Drops Yard by the water. All is on your doorstep.

A few more steps away you walk by the ‘gas-holders’ and St Pancras lock, to reach Camden lock and Camden Market and then further on to Little Venice, a wider water space lined with boats and Regency houses.

In the opposite direction (east) from the mooring, you'll find Chapel Market, a traditional street market with a wide selection of stalls, offering street-food, fresh fruit and veg etc., and inexpensive restaurants. Up in Islington, there are supermarkets, cinemas, fringe theatres, banks and fashion outlets. The towpath here goes past attractive canalside eateries to Victoria Park and Broadway market.

To visit London's attractions further away, there are convenient bus services close by and access to the underground from Kings Cross and Angel stations (10 mins) for easy connections to the West End, Covent Garden, City, Southbank and elsewhere.
