Houseboat summary

Enjoy your stay on our traditional narrowboat, surrounded by wildlife on an RSPB Nature Reserve by the River Adur. Enjoying a magnificent vista over the river to the South Downs, Rhubarb is a perfect haven to immerse yourself fully with the nearby wildlife. Swans, gulls, herons, kingfishers, and even the occasional seal can be spotted from the living room, with its panoramic view. Or you might prefer to sit outside at the front of the boat to take in the sights and feel at one with nature. Occasionally, on a full tide, the boat will float, which is always exciting!

You will also have exclusive use of your own private jetty with a table and four chairs, perfect for breakfast on a sunny morning. Rhubarb has been meticulously restored to her former glory by a team of local craftsmen, and the interior is an eclectic mix of original wooden timber and light fittings, juxtaposed with vintage, recycled antique shop discoveries. Free Wi-Fi is provided. A park only 50 yards away is perfect for children. The unspoilt nearby beach is only a one-minute stroll away, and there are numerous cycle paths to explore for the energetic!

Indeed, we offer free use of our bikes, kayaks, canoes, wetsuits, and bodyboards, and even buckets and spades for the little ones. Shoreham is but a ten-minute walk, where there are cafes, restaurants, and pubs aplenty. With Brighton a short bus or train ride to the east, and Worthing to the west, you will be perfectly situated to enjoy all this little corner of West Sussex has to offer.

Houseboat description

Overview

Rhubarb is an original houseboat that has been carefully preserved, and so stays true to its origins, but with the bonus of all mod cons. It has 2/3 bedrooms, two bathrooms with free shampoo and conditioner, and a cosy shower.

Bedrooms

The bedrooms were originally designed so they could be closed off and separate if required, with carefully constructed partition doors—perfect for exhausted parents come the evening.

Living Spaces and Kitchen

There are two living spaces and a well-appointed kitchen, with an oven, gas hobs, kettle, pots, and pans— all you need for cooking, with complimentary tea and coffee always on hand.

Heating and Decor

Central heating radiators provide a warm, ambient temperature, whilst there is a small multi-fuel stove for additional heating if required. Vintage curtains and cushions set the tone; marine ply interior and parquet flooring complete the look.

Exterior

She has been sandblasted and repainted in her original colours, and a safe, easy-access pontoon ensures a smooth transition from jetty to boat.
