Houseboat summary

This renovated harbor crane is a maritime hideaway in the heart of Hafencity Hamburg, directly across the Elbphilharmonie. Spend the night in the room where the crane-operator steered the grip or „Greif“ of the crane to lift heavy loads around for more than 70 years.

Not only can you spend the night in this unique accommodation, but you can also admire the most extraordinary art in Harry's Hamburger Hafenbasar. Harry Rosenberg, the captain with the white beard, has collected the most wonderful items from all over the world and brought them to the harbor crane. During opening hours guest of the hideaway can visit the collection.

Enjoy a glass of wine after a long day in the city and take in the extraordinary view. There is no doubt, this is a magical experience.

Houseboat description

It is not a 5-star hotel, there is no lobby or liftboy, but you will not lack anything.

The Hafencity Hideaway is fully equipped with a mini bar, luxury Shuj silk bedding and a lovely king size bed. A special feature of the accommodation is our shower with a fireplace (world's first). Something else that makes the Hafenkran hideaway unique is the view of the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg's infamous concert hall located on the shore of the river Elbe.

The Harbor Crane does not need a kitchen, because a kind soul will bring you a breakfast basket to your doorstep every morning during your stay. Enjoy your breakfast on your private terrace or snuggled up in bed.

Tim

Hi, we are Tim and Marc, the founders of Floatel. We have many years of experience with lighthouses and in 2018 we opened our first hideaway in a swimming Habour Crane in the habour of Hamburg.
It is our passion to find the most beautiful and unique places to stay and turn them into accommodations that make the guest feel special and let them enjoy intensely. We always try to keep the history and the character of the buildings, so that the guests can experience the life of a lighthouse keeper or a crane conductor.

Actually, what we do is difficult to describe. Experience it and you will understand much better.

    Just one word: Speechless!

It's really hard to put such an experience in words when you're so speechless. Of course, you can expect that it will not be a normal place to stay, but when arriving you will still be surprised again. The harbor crane is fully equipped and at least as unique from the inside as the view of the harbor is. We received an overnight stay for our wedding and were amazed throughout our time in the Crane and enjoyed the view of the Elbe river.

It was almost too nice because you don't want to leave. But even though it's not really possible to repeat this experience often because of the price, you never felt you were paying too much for what was offered. I now have the firm opinion that anyone who is looking for special overnight accommodation in Hamburg must have stayed here once! You don't want to miss this.

    Experience of a lifetime

The Crane is a once in a lifetime experience. On the terrace you can enjoy the sun when the weather is nice and gaze at the Elbphilharmonie. But don't worry, even on the 300 rainy days a year in Hamburg, your stay will be well in the French interior. There is a small kitchen and coffee/tea is provided. The sanitary facilities are very spacious. When you go up a steep staircase, you'll find a sitting area in the former operator's cabin as well as a very comfortable bed from which you again have an amazing view.

The neighborhood where the Crane stands is rather thinly inhabited, which should be due to the high rents in the Speicherstadt. However, there is always a restaurant or the like within 15 minutes. Breakfast in the Crane leaves nothing to be desired.
