Sailing ship summary
Get aboard this wonderful sail charter in Friesland, originally built as a seaworthy sailing freight ship in 1902, and prepare yourself for an unforgettable experience. We offer both sailing trips forindividual guests and groups up to 18 people. Sailing Friesland can be done in many ways. Our major sailing area, the Dutch Wadden Sea, is a unique area with a wide variety of landscapes, flora and fauna due to the tidal effect. But we also can go sail the famous Frisian lakes. Thanks to the modest size andthe shallow draft of the ship, we can also sail shallow waters. There is a professional crew aboard, so no sailing experience is required.

Sailing ship description
The options for a sailing trip with us are very many. You can rent this sailing ship for a multiple day trip to the islands Texel, Vlieland and Terschelling. Or perhaps you just want a day trip on the Frisian Lakes and enjoy the stunning surroundings these waters have to offer. When sailing for a single day with this Tjalk we can take up to 20 people aboard. On multiple day trips the capacity is 18. No prior sailing experience is required whatsoever.
About the ship
This original sailing ship, type Tjalk, was built in 1902. She is 23,65 meters long, 5,45 meters in width and has a shallow draft of only 1 meter. The ship was used to transport flower bulbs, stones and cattle until 1942 - so it was a real tough freight ship. Thats hard to imagine looking at the comfort it offers today. The cabins are cosy and warm, the interior has been completely renovated back in 2011.
However as a guest you still get the experience of a historic ship; this unique atmosphere has been well preserved. The pleasure of sailing, the freedom and cooperation on board make a unique experience. Countless groups have sailed on the Agatha and wandered the mud flats with her enthusiastic crew. Sailing on a big ship means teamwork, where everyone's talent can contribute. Everything is allowed, nothing is required.
Unique shallow water sailing
You might not expect it however the depth of Agatha is only one meter. This makes it possible to sail the shallower Frisian inland waters. In addition, the flat bottom of the ship ensures that you fall dry on the Wadden Sea. A not to be missed experience to hike from a historic ship, until the tide lets you know that it's time to board again.
Layout of the sailing ship
The deck is spacious and the cabins are comfortable. The two 3-person cabins and six 2- person cabins can accommodate a total of 18 people to enjoy multiple day trips. There are two areas beneath decks where you can relax after a day of sailing. The Agatha has two showers and three toilets.
