Houseboat summary

This East German built passenger ferry was used in the Baltic sea. After years of service, it became our home. Since it was designed to function in the Baltic sea, the ferry is very well insulated. It was originally built in the historical ship building port of Wolgast, East Germany, in 1962. Aboard this ship, you feel the combination of the coziness of a home, with the authentic history of the property.

Houseboat description

The boat itself is 70 foot long and 20 foot wide, consisting out of a living room (wide open space with a sofa bed), a single bedroom, a double bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen. The boat is heated through a coal/ wood burner in the living room, and radiators to heat the entire boat.

Barking Creek (where the boat is securely moored, only accessible by other boaters), is a motley mix of approximately 40 boats. Barking became the largest fishing port serving London, with everyone in the area involved in the fishing industry. This, however, is not everything that characterizes Barking: there is also a music & dance centre, a library and theatre, and a leisure complex with a gym, swimming pools, sauna, etc. The area is a melting pot of different cultures, mixed with traditional English pubs and Icelands!

Also, Barking is very close to central London. You can get there by: Car, Dockland Light Railway (DLR), Underground: District Line, Overground: District Overground.

Parking is free, at close to the A13 and A406.

Smoking is allowed outside: there is plenty of deck to choose from!
