Enkhuizen has a rich naval history in which sailing ships have always played a very important role. Just like Amsterdam and Hoorn, the town of Enkhuizen was one of the most important harbor town of the VOC. Just imagine the ships coming in with their trade, gotten overseas by trading in the East Indies. Spices like pepper, cardamom, ginger and anise were unknown to the Western World until these days and now available thanks to the brave sailors that sailed the waves for months before they got back home.
These days are all over now, but there is still a chance to experience - even for just a little bit - what it is to be a true sailor. Rent one of the beautiful sailing ships that are docked in the harbor of Enkhuizen and sail the waves. There are various destinations you can choose from and your captain is more than happy to schedule the perfect route for your party. Of course there is the IJsselmeer, the lake that was formed after the former Southern Sea was shut off from the open sea. Although it is a fresh water lake now, it has not lost it's character. When the wind picks up, it still feels pretty much like the open sea. But we're glad to say that, since there is so much land surrounding this body of water, there are always options to go sailing without risking getting seasick. And know that most sailing ships are very stable thanks to their wide hull.
Go through the lock and enter a whole different world, a world where you will taste the salt on your lips. This is the world of the Wadden Sea, a piece of world heritage with a unique eco system. From here you can decide to visit one or more of the famous Wadden Islands: Rexel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. And a truly unique experience is to let yourself fall dry on the bottom of the sea during low tide. For once you are able to walk on the seabed without getting wet. A real must-do if you have the chance!
We are proud so share a wide selection of sailing charters with you, sleeping 12 to as much as 33 guests.
