Houseboat description

The comfortable living room has a couch and smart TV (international channels like BBC, CNN & Netflix). Free high-speed Wi-Fi with private router is available. Stereo has a connector for smart phones. Guide books, board and card games.

All three bedrooms have a nicely finished private bathroom.

Shared laundry room (with washer & dryer & iron/ironing board).

The boat is very comfortable because of her excellent isolation, double glazing and floral/central heating in all rooms. Thermostat can be adjusted to your personal preferences.
As is the case for almost all barges on the river Amstel, we do have a neighbor boat on the river. You can still see the river from the topside but not out of the portholes in the river side.

The boat is moored at the Amstel River, the main canal of Amsterdam, on the edge of the Pijp neighborhood, one of the most cosmopolitan and vibrant districts of Amsterdam. You will find bars, restaurants, shops and public transport around you at walking distance.

A nice 15 to 20 minute walk along the Amstel River brings you to the central canal area and the major nightlife area Rembrandtplein, Hermitage Museum or Waterlooplein Fleemarket.

Public transport

Location is close to Amstel Railway/Subway station, bus 65 (excellent connection to Rai congress centre) and tram 4 (Central Station).

Rental bicycles available on the site.

    Holidays in Amsterdam

Our holidays in Amsterdam have been wonderful. Marietta's houseboat has room enough for our family (parent and three children) and even for larger families. It has everything you need. Marietta was very kind and helped us to rent some bikes somewhere close to the houseboat.

The houseboat is not in the city center, but it is not far (less than half an hour walking), and it is located in a quiet neighborhood.

I recommend Marietta's houseboat to everyone.

    Wonderful experience!!!

A great experience aboard the Generaal!

As a family of five we had loads of space and comfort. Mariette was super helpful and informative before our trip so we arrived well prepared and ready to explore Amsterdam with insider knowledge.

The houseboat is clean, spacious and well equipped. It’s in a great location too - so peaceful but near enough to walk into the centre as we did most days. The De Pijp area is on your doorstep and fun to explore.

Mariette’s personal touches made our stay extra comfortable - fresh tulips, useful kitchen items like dishwasher tablets, tea, coffee, oil, herbs and spices, cling film, foil, soap and even onions and garlic were most helpful to have to hand and great that we didn’t have to bring all these items with us. Cooking dinner for the family was easy. Hairdryers and a bluetooth music system added the home touch. The use of the shared laundry was also available too although we didn’t need it.

There were plenty of fresh towels and super hot water for the whole family! It really is like staying in a comfortable, luxury apartment but with the fun and quirkiness of being on a boat.

We drove to Amsterdam and were concerned about parking whilst there but there was no need to worry. Plenty of parking available directly outside the boat and the process of paying online for the duration of your stay is very easy (although 27€ a day)

We loved the photo book telling the story of the Geneaal Praag and the history of her renovation. Well worth a look through!!!

Thank you to Mariette for a wonderful Amsterdam experience!
